Regarding the Phil-Mills situation, I think the reality is this: Phil knew he was coming into the GM job with little experience and wanted someone with him that knew the paperwork/technical aspect of the job, Dolan insisted Mills could fill this role for Phil and since Phil thought he would be making all of the basketball decisions anyway, he didn't challenge this and accepted Mills as a sort of secretary. He didn't push for a better candidate because he knew he himself would be making the important decisions which is why mills is still around.

Let's go back to Grunwald. He called around and Toronto answered and said, "see this guy we are about to amnesty give us a 1st." He responded with a big okay. He also overpaid for Felton when no one wanted him. Same with Camby. He gave Novak a silly contract too.

So I think Mills has been okay.

I can never understand why we were giving up picks get Bargs and not pursuing Lowry instead..Maybe it's a timing thing...Above my pay grade..

Judging by the way we usually get screwed in trades, it's probably a good thing no one has Mills number.

I don't understand why Mills is the hurdle?..Phil isn't able to build an infrastructure around Mills to get the job done??..Or ask Mills to make the calls??..Phil just gave a rookie coach a historic contract..And his hand are tied in the front office..Come on..Blaming Dolan for everything at this stage is lame..This is Phil's show, like he wants it...

Phil didn't go into this knowing everything there is to know about being a front office executive. Having an experienced GM would help him make the transition, not to mention his connections. Im confident Phil knew that. Mills couldnt get a job in the league after he was canned, where were the connections? He had to work for Magic. Of all the people out there, he wanted Mills? Jackson couldnt even get the medical staff replaced.

I don't buy it..Park the mofo in an office and get the job done...Dolan excuses..Mills didn't pull the Calderon trade...The medical staff is for all of MSG, not just the basketball team...How is that Phil's arena anyway..Phil knows Docs...

As I said upthread, the trades Phil signed off are on him. If Phil is displeased with the medical staff, as team president he should be able to hire whomever he wants. If you want Phil to get the job done, he should be allowed fill his staff with his people. No way in God's green earth can you can convince me that Mills was one of them.

You mean the same Mills who didnt pull Shumpert before the trade was official, winds up getting hurt, killing the deal? Grunwald had his flaws but he did build a 54 win roster, with limited cap room. If we are going to blame Dolan for interfering with Mills. The same should apply to Grunwalad.

Lets give up another first round pick and put it all on Lowrey's back, the guy who has not handled himself great his career would do so in NY, but carry the weight of the media with him.

This way when we break him, we can then complain "we gave up a no. pick for him???"

Lowrey is a fine player who has turned his anger around and has a nice gig going in Toronto. Would have happened here? I don't know. seems to me some dudes don't do well in NY with media crush and the pressure to win.

We have been doing this kind of trading for years and it seems we never get deep into a draft or able to get cornerstone players out of it.

Knicks front office has people like Warkentien who came from Denver and is a respected BB Man. Mills is said to have great connections with agents. Any Exec or agent that wants to make a deal isn't going to have trouble getting in touch with the Knicks. Knicks may not have the best front office but you would think that after all of these years they have some idea of what is going on around the league. They've got enough money to spread around and build a network I would think.

It's simple really. Knicks don't really have a strong negotiating position and now have very little left to move. What could happen is that teams looking for a 3rd team to get involved will call the Knicks. Teams looking to dump salary will call. It's not a strong position, but it's the reality of where this team is at. It's going to take time for Phil to reverse all the damage. Phil will have to be extremely smart in mapping out a path forward. To be honest the only way for this team to really be saved is going to be in the draft and undrafted players and also in Free Agency. We aren't really set up for trades without any assets to move.

The way the NBA Laws are set up it's ment to hold down a team like the Knicks. The New York press is also the problem. They are ready to throw someone under the bus or start controversy where there is none. Right now the way things look the league have us by the balls and it is part our fault. Remember Patrick Ewing? We gave him away for nothing and got back nothing. You may hate JR Smith but he was worth something and so was Shump. We got nothing back. If we wanted to trade Melo today we would be lucky to get back a first round pick. I am done with this season and maybe watching NBA games too. I've been watching a little college. The NBA is so political and watered down.We give these small cities every break possible and really they should be a farm club city. Oh sure they are winning now after tanking 10 times in a row.

The NBA is not conspiring against the Knicks or large markets in general. LA, Boston, Chicago, and Miami are all large markets that have had plenty of success. We've been a downward trajectory since 1999 which just so happens to coincide with James Dolan taking over control of the team.

I agree. Also, this team still sucks with Lowry. Not only do we suck, but we lose another pick. We were stuck on a merry go round of mediocrity and if it takes a season like this to stop the momentum, then so be it.
