Knicks · Dragic is like a Tim Duncan from the G position (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 1/19/2015 11:07 PM
The guy is so fundamentally sound that its almost easy for him. Every-time I watch him he looks better than the last. I cant imagine if we had Carmleo and Dragic on on team where with just decent parts we couldnt be highly competitive every night. You look upo the guy is 9-15 6 dimes every time
STATMELO @ 1/19/2015 11:10 PM
Really like Dragic we should be targeting him this is a guy who can actually push the ball!

Dragic is really the athletic Beno Udrih lol.

F500ONE @ 1/19/2015 11:20 PM
I thought he was Steve Nash boy are we reaching here

In the meantime while your fantasizing over Dragic

He's playing the field for free agency

Shortly before July 1, Dragic will opt out of his $7.5 million player option with the Suns to become an unrestricted free agent. Then, Dragic will learn how much his third-team All-NBA honor, 2014 Most Improved Player award and crafty playmaking will attract on the open market, something he said will force him to make “the toughest decision in my life.”

“I’m really happy here in Phoenix and they have given me everything I have ever dreamed,” Dragic said in an interview with Los Angeles Newspaper Group. “I feel like I’m at home here. But I’ll explore my options.”

Would one of those options include the Lakers?

“It’s not just L.A. I think it’s everybody,” Dragic said. “Back in Europe, there are bad teams financially and teams that aren’t organized. But every team in the NBA is a good organization.”

But not every team has Kobe Bryant, who currently plans to play the final year of his contract for the 2015-16 season.

“Any player that is one of the best players in the league would be cool to play with. Kobe is a legend,” Dragic said “I know how awesome it is to be around those superstars. If you’re patient enough and you listen, you learn a lot.”

He can't possibly be serious about LA. Kobe is shooting 36% he's retiring after his deal, Nash is done.

I love Dragic and this is a huge reason why I wanted to try to get Plumlee now, Briggs.
BTW, congrats on your GAMEPICKER win tonight.

Some would argue that Kobe's impending retirement makes LA a more attractive destination for top free agents.

It's actually 16 Pts 4 asst per..doesn't scream must have for the money he wants to me..

Who is going to defend the perimeter? Dragic is another turnstile therefor he will not be Phil's target. And besides Phil doesn't like ball dominant PG's

He was 20-6-3 all year last year and they added a third rotation PG this year. Hes a 20-6/7-3/4 50% player--pretty simple. Hes a top 15 player.

Top 15 player???????..I arrest my case..U do know Phil is running a triangle and has no need for this type of player..

NumberTwoPencil @ 1/20/2015 4:42 AM
Totally agree with Briggs (well, maybe not top 15 but) . . . an undervalued player, perhaps even with a max contract. Who cares if he turns out to be David Lee-quailty in the long run? That's an upgrade.
Bonn1997 @ 1/20/2015 5:41 AM
Chris Paul is like Duncan from the G position. Dragic is just a good player but nothing special so far in his career.

Exactly. Prigioni is on the other end of the spectrum, need to find a PG somewhere in the middle.

I looked into Dragic's #s for the last 3 seasons.

What I noticed:
his defensive +/- is a push. Suns are the same defensively (or % points better with him off)
the player he guards doesnt shoot an impressive EFG%. So whether he's sound defensively or not he's not getting lit up
the offense is much much better with him on the floor

He strikes me as a fundamentally sound guy (thus the Duncan ref) who could be more in the right system. There is nice value there at the right price.

BRIGGS @ 1/20/2015 9:38 AM
The Knicks havent had a PG like Dragic since Walt Frazier. I bet he is #1 on the Knicks wishlist for what in the UFA category. Hes a big 1.5 who can do a lot of things hes in his prime years and I dont think hes the type who will be injured half his contract.
Bonn1997 @ 1/20/2015 9:40 AM
Yeah, it depends on price. He's young enough that I'd gamble on him for a little less than the max.

I don't think he's ball dominant. But I am worried that he is on the wrong side of his 20's as far as us locking him in to a big contract.

I'd happily give him max money- but for only 3 years with perhaps a 4th year as team option.

He's 28. He has maybe 2 more good years before the physical abilities start to degrade.

And then he will likely turn into Prigs & Calderon.

If it takes 4 years guaranteed max money to sign him, I might prefer to sign Jeremy for less money & years and use the savings elsewhere.

djsunyc @ 1/20/2015 9:52 AM
we have witnessed only 2 teams in the past 30 years that used the triangle - lakers + bulls.

neither of them had a pg that did anything other than spot up and shoot. you would have to make him your secondary scorer next to melo and then fill the lineup out with 2 way players. but if you are expecting him to "run" the team, then dump the triangle.

Brandon Knight is a much better option

earthmansurfer @ 1/20/2015 9:53 AM
Dragic in this offense would be a floor general. I know we don't need one per say, but we don't have a leader on this team. Though Melo will probably always be the go to scorer, a guy like Dragic could really be a nice #2 (or #3 once Okafor is here ;-) . We have a chance...
