Good job Phil! This kid was making us little too competitive.
CrushAlot @ 1/26/2015 6:44 PM
I hope there is nothing to this. It seems crazy not to get this kid locked up.

I like galloway, but locking him up after this few games is somewhat ridiculous. I'm all for signing for the rest of the season and some partial money next year with incentives to make it full.

Would you let him walk to save $800 grand in cap space? Not sure there is anything to this given that it is Berman but I think the Knicks know a lot about Langston. Phil's guy scouted him and recommended the Knicks bring in for the summer leagues. He was brought to training camp, protected in the d league draft, worked with Knicks coaches in Westchester and has performed very well since being brought up. Also, he went to school for 4 years and was well coached. Can't imagine knowing much more about a first year player honestly.

He may have a multi year offers on the table somewhere else and is giving the Knicks the first chance to offer that. The Knicks arent the only ones to see him. If they truly cared about keeping him protected they shouldnt have brought him up so soon.

My guess is they get this done, but I wouldnt be surprised in either scenario.

I think you're right. That might include oversees offers too.
knickscity @ 1/26/2015 7:02 PM
is he really a free agent tomorrow? wow.
Knicks1969 @ 1/26/2015 7:05 PM
Phil needs to go ahead and lock this kid up for the next four years. He is the type of players who should dawn a Knicks uniform
mreinman @ 1/26/2015 7:10 PM
Now I see why we should try not to bring our guys up here and leave them in the D'League.

Sure its a lot more complicated then that though

Galloway would be signed by another team. Thanasis's rights belong to the Knicks so nothing can happen to him.

I thought Galloway was a protected d-leaguer. if he stayed there, no one could sign him except us.

No the Knicks were allowed to protect three players that they had in training camp from the d league draft. They were still free agents in regards to nba teams.

Crush ... very impressed with your d-league knowledge

this stuff is way over my head

I wish Phil had been this tough with the Anthony negotiations...

...Or maybe some of you think he was a shrewd and tough negotiator, when he stopped Anthony from getting a better deal than the 124M/5yr, player option, no trade, $10M trade sweetener clause contract that he ended up acquiescing to.

I would give him this year, next year, and a team option for a 3rd year. At the very least Galloway is a 15-20MPG rotational guy who plays more if his shooting is hot on a particular night, to a guy with a ceiling of 15 PPG, 4 APG, 5 RPG, and 1 SPG, good D rotational player/starter getting 25-30 MPG.

Phil would be foolish to let him go at this point. Galloway is no savior, but he looks like a keeper at this point.

I think the DL Showcase event was the point where players could sign with anyone- there was some kind of deadline, I think.

Thanks. I love the d league especially now that the Knicks are using it. Ridiculous Upside is a great site if you want to read about it. D-League Digest and Upside and Motor are also good.

Gotcha, I'm assuming thats why the brought him up since at a certain date anyone could have signed him. that makes sense now.
F500ONE @ 1/26/2015 7:29 PM
Well there is a report Elijah Milsap signed

A 3yr deal between $1-1.5mil per year

Well all I can say let this be another example

Of what Phil can expect this summer with other free agents

One of the things I don't like about the Amundson and Lance situation

If they remain for the rest of season they will come with a cap hit

If we renounce them at season's end like Galloway anyone can sign them once free

They simply seem like a no high reward options here

Galloway needs to be locked up and we need to call up Thanasis and sign him

But Phil is sweating bullets over $800k guaranteed for this kid?
