We had pretty bad luck this year- all the teams we needed to do badly (because they had FA's that we were interested in) have done the best they ever have (Portland, Memphis, Atlanta, etc)- it'll make it harder to lure FAs from those teams, thats for sure.

Yeah Millsap was a top possibility 2 months ago but not as much anymore. I have put him in the category with Gasol and Aldridge of guys i can't see their teams letting go. We will have to find diamonds in the rough and guys who fit the concept and therefore play above their abilities. Thinking about it more and more, Robin Lopez is a player i really think can excel here, and Portland will have to make some decisions with him, Aldridge, and Matthews all free agents. Do they pay all of them huge money?

My point with Aldridge is he's in the west. I know he's tired of losing. He demanded a trade a while back then rescinded that when they started winning again.... he wants recognition.
The Knicks can make a pitch to him and his agent that he and Melo along with whoever else they have in mind can come out the east. That's a realistic expectation. I think that would be very hard for Aldridge to pass up. There is no doubt that portland will over pay to keep him.... but Aldridge has his own career to think about.
Portland is very good. Been good for a while. We havent made the playoffs in 2yrs. I guess the only way is if he wants to be in the limelight but that's overrated in today's nba

It's one thing to win but he wants a chance to advance. The west is pretty stacked. Very hard to advance in the playoffs. It's the only angle we have on getting this guy.
He is going to face the west eventually even in the east but I get what you are saying. He may want to get out of the 1st or 2nd round. Knicks have a long way to go though

I'm pretty sure Milsap had an under the table agreement with Atlanta to get a big payday when he signed his first deal there. I never thought he was a realistic choice,
If we're looking for a diamond in the rough PF, one that hasn't really had big opportunities yet and could possibly break out in a HUGE way once he got it -- Thomas Robinson. Think about this guy for a sec -- 6'9" 245 (some websites list him at 6'10" although I don't quite see that -- still big enough though). This man is strong/athletic as hell, has a sky-high motor and has a lot to offer skill-wise: not good but a GREAT rebounder in college that will translate 100% full-time once he finally gets a starting opportunity (we've already seen big rebound efforts here and there from T-Rob for Sac & Portland up to this point) and I like his offensive game -- he can score in close, in transition and he's actually got a real nice mid-range game that he showed in college but hasn't really had an opportunity to showcase full-time in the NBA yet). 2012 at Kansas he led the nation in double/doubles, was top 2 or 3 in the entire NCAA in rebounding, and led his team to the championship game against Kentucky that year where he poured his heart out in that final game against Anthony Davis. Kentucky won the championship but T-Rob outperformed Davis in that game from what I remember. This could be one hell of a nice young frontcourt building block we might be able to get cheap. I wouldn't rule this guy out for us if I were Phil.

Knicks have a long ways to go, however if you have Aldridge and Melo both healthy, and an average bench, you have a shot to advance deep in the east.

I think Acy is a better defensive player and ballhandler while Robinson is a better rebounder. I agree Robinson has better upside, but Act seems to be improving each year. They're both energy guys and I don't see either one becoming more than a bench player.

Yeah but you have to get a rugged 4 to play with him. I really like Kevin Seraphin. He could take whatever match up Aldridge doesn't want. Then we all keep all our other bigs...lou, smith and acy. Keep it gangsta off the bench.

Not to mention that LMA has said he's going to resign in Portland and is only waiting until the Summer so he can get a 5-year deal instead of a 4-year.
