Knicks · Dolan email to fan. (page 1)

New York Knicks and Cablevision CEO James Dolan lashed out at a lifelong fan over email, suggesting the fan was an alcoholic who should start rooting for the Nets "because the Knicks don't want you."

Dolan's response was extraordinarily disproportionate given the relatively mild-mannered—and accurate!—criticisms levied by the fan, who says he's been a Knicks fan since 1952. (We received copies of the emails from filmmaker Aaron Bierman, whose father was the target of Dolan's wrath.)

Here's the email that was sent to Dolan:

Subject: I have been a knicks fan since 1952

At one stage I thought that you did a wonderful thing when you acquired EVERYTHING from your dad. However, since then it has been ALL DOWN HILL. Your working with Isaiah Thomas & everything else regarding the Knicks. Bringing on Phil Jackson was a positive beginning, but lowballing Steve Kerr was a DISGRACE to the knicks. The bottom line is that you merely continued to interfere with the franchise.

As a knicks fan for in excess of 60 years, I am utterly embarrassed by your dealings with the Knicks. Sell them so their fans can at least look forward to growing them in a positive direction Obviously, money IS NOT THE ONLY THING. You have done a lot of utterly STUPID business things with the franchise. Please NO MORE.

Respectfully,

[Aaron Bierman's dad]

You are a sad person. Why would anybody write such a hateful letter. I am.just guessing but ill bet your life is a mess and you are a hateful mess. What have you done that anyone would consider positive or nice. I am betting nothing. In fact ill bet you are negative force in everyone who comes in contact with you. You most likely have made your family miserable. Alcoholic maybe. I just celebrated my 21 year anniversary of sobriety. You should try it. Maybe it will help you become a person that folks would like to have around. In the mean while start rooting.for the Nets because the Knicks dont want you.

Respectfully

James Dolan

James Dolan remains a shitty boss and a shitty person.

I don't think it has been confirmed that it is actually from Dolan.

Not sure if its actually dolan or just a representative. However the fan actually was being brutally honest. The response letter was much more hateful and spiteful. I have always disliked dolan mostly because i feel he is a moron who should stop interfering with basketball operations. He lets glen sather handle the rangers but he wont do the same for the knicks
babyKnicks @ 2/8/2015 12:45 PM
I agree with Dolan.
smackeddog @ 2/8/2015 12:51 PM
If you're going to talk shit to people, don't go a-crying when they talk shit back. Seriously, what did they expect him to do?

i dont have a problem standing up for yourself but he went too far. He basically called him a drunk and insulted his family

one of the comments from DS (about dolans response): "Does anyone else feel that by the end he's just writing that letter to himself?"

I could never understand how folks applaud the the people Dolan brings in to run basketball operations then blame him when it all goes wrong...

All is fair in love and war. I have no problem with Dolan's response. If my wife re-hashed everything I did wrong in my career in every argument, I wouldn't have a wife. What kind of response did this 'lifelong fan' expect? It was a hurtful email. Gone too far? I don't believe so. He called him out for being a hurtful person. Notwithstanding the poor results, I always thought that Dolan's hires and trades were coming from the right place -- even if the execution didn't work out. Now, he has the people in place to turn the franchise around. No need to re-hash the failures. We all know what they were.

For being a fan for 63yrs the guy sounds like a moron.

And this can't be Dolan. Dolan can't be this stupid. Must be an employee that handles email complaints. One of those real dweedbie types. Telling him to root for the Nyets lol

How was that reflected in the email?
Nalod @ 2/8/2015 1:39 PM
Two bad e-mails don't make a right.

Both were bad. Surprising Dolan would take the bait given he really does not put himself out there.
Naturally Jimbo should not have replied. How this guy get his e-mail? I think the first letter is pretty bad.

BRIGGS @ 2/8/2015 1:40 PM
I don't believe this but if its a scam dolan could easily sue them. Things are looking up for the Knicks we have a great chance to drastically improve and find a new franchise playet in the draft.

He applauded Phil Jackson and blame Dolan for low balling Kerr..Also I'm assuming this email was sent recently and the current state of the Knick isn't about Mr. Jackson?

In the email, he elaborates on that being an example that Dolan interfere's with the franchise too much. As for the state the current state of the Knicks, you may have a point but he never actually addresses that in the email so I can't say one way or another.

How does he know that Kerr didn't take the GS job because it was a better situation for Kerr and his family, which by the way, Kerr keeps saying..How do we know Dolan was involved, which by the way, Phil keeps saying he isn't involved??..And Who low balls Kerr to overpay Fisher??..And when does Phil Jackson own this??

Nalod @ 2/8/2015 3:52 PM
I didn't think he low balled him. I thought he got the same money in GS but it came down to family, and better roster.
From all accounts, he had Phils blessing as he had verbally committed to knicks until GS swept him off his feet.

Really, I thought everyone handled it very well.

Dumb letter, but we all know there are dumb fans. what gets me is why (if its real) dolan would address him when he rarely exhibits anything? How does one get Dolans personal E-mail anyway? Telling dolan is amateur hour anyway. If he has relinquished control to Jax regarding all basketball operations then its basically what any fan would want.

TPercy @ 2/8/2015 4:31 PM
There is no way in hell James Dolan himself actually wrote that,

Those are all valid questions and some I wonder myself but it gets away from your original point. The guy writing the email believes that Dolan is the one who low balled Kerr and is interfering with the franchise too much. He's not contradicting himself.

I wondered that too. It's like when Amare responded to that fan calling him a f*g. Why dignify these guys with a response at all? They're the ones under a microscope, not the fans.
