Whatever we do--we must keep a maximum slot open for 2016 for KD. If that means grabbing a couple of guys like Boozer and keeping Bargs and Smith on one year deals and using a lower amount--say 4 yrs 32 mm on Jackson etc..whatever we have to do to keep that slot open--we should do it.
Moonangie @ 2/12/2015 12:02 AM
Agreed, but I also doubt he comes to NYC. Most likely spot for him is OKC, followed by DC. But would be a nice thing for us to miraculously land him.

One step at a time. Im cool with improving next year--but we need to be in the game for the big prize.

i concur BRIGGS. I dont want to overspend on so so talent just to say we got someone. Id rather save it for the following yr - whether for Durant or someone else

Hogwash. Why just give money away to players who do not help you going forward and have zero upside. There are players out there that could take up their spots for cheap.

Also, who is to say that the Cap will not jump up creating the cap room.

Im just using names as examples--it could be taking on cap space for picks--I dont really care. I think we can improve next year but I dont want to shoot it all on two players that are good but not great. Id rather be selective and opportunistic. I just want to save a max slot for KD--its worth the risk--we get better next year no matter what.

I'd rather have Anthony Davis in 2 years. KD will be 28. AD will be 23.

That's word to big bird. Kid might actually want to be in ny more than KD. That would be like the Lakers getting Pau Gasol if we got Davis. I love this rebuild to tell you the truth. I truly believe or time is coming very soon.

To be fair every player says that they would like to be in New York and never come lol. However i do like the rebuild and i have been screaming for the Knicks to do a true rebuild for years which i was kinda hoping we would do a sign and trade with the Bulls this summer but we know Dolan wouldnt have done that. Anyway i personally dont care about getting "stars" i just wnat to get a collection of good players that play two way ball along with the lottery pick we are getting
thejerk @ 2/12/2015 8:31 AM
^This much easier to root for.
Knixkik @ 2/12/2015 8:33 AM
We need to land at least 1 big piece this summer. Durant, love, horford, Noah, etc are all free agents next season so maybe we can solidify the backcourt this summer like getting Dragic and drafting Russell and sign some cheaper front court help like resign smith, sign Lavoy Allen or kosta koufos. Then hopefully land one of the big men next summer.
gunsnewing @ 2/12/2015 8:36 AM
Exactly. Backcourt this summer. DO NOT mad out a non max front court player. Draft Towns/OK4

Go hard after Anthony Davis

I have no problems adding star free agents just as long as we don't surrender every single asset and we continue to Draft and develop our own players

gunsnewing @ 2/12/2015 9:02 AM
Because if that star play be it davis or Durant goes down for significant time the team doesn't comoletely collapse
fishmike @ 2/12/2015 9:05 AM
Anthony Davis is restricted FA. On what planet does he not get maxed out by his own team? Please. Waste of brainpower.

KD is a nice thought. Im not building my team around a 5% chance to get another team's player. Unless there is some inside information the Knicks better build this the right way.

On e problem is Dolan traded every single pick. Its just luck thta we have this one and we dont have to flip it to Houston for their 27th.

EwingsGlass @ 2/12/2015 9:22 AM
Assuming you made a run at KD or any other intelligent star, you would need to craft players into the Triangle system. It takes a while to learn. I have no problem leaving money on the table for next year, looking only for value buys this year. The trouble with value this year is that nearly all 'value' free agents are restricted. Meaning, you have to overbid to get them. While this could work to our advantage by locking up opponent cap space by forcing them to overpay to keep their players, we run the risk that we will end up with an overpaid player. At this point, I cannot overpay for a RFA unless they are the last piece of the puzzle, not the first.

Show me some FAs that are not restricted that are potential value picks? (clearly will not know for certain until the middle to end of FA).

From our position, you make your bid to RFAs where you want to pay them and if their team retains them, they retain them. Narrow down the field and remove teams as players in the market until you get your 'value' picks.

it has to change at somepoint. That trend can reverse.

I agree. I don't think Melo is signed at a reasonable price but I'd be willing to keep him for 1 1/2 years just in case he helps bring in Durant. I think they'll do whatever they can to immediately improve the team, including shopping our lottery pick.
