Knicks · Bachynski a Westchester Knick (page 1)

Nice pickup. I believe he just got back from playing overseas.
Also, Byron Mullens just went to the d league. Both guys might be worth a look after the deadline. Psyched Westchester has Jordan especially after losing Sanchez.

Bachynski has a standing reach of almost 9 and 1/2 feet. From draftnet:
Strengths: Bachynski is a prolific shot blocker – finished his career at Arizona State as the Pac-12 career leader in blocks with 314 in 122 games, and led the nation in blocks (133) and blocks per game (4.03) in his senior season… Has good timing and discipline when defending the rim – doesn’t bite on ball fakes and does a job of staying vertical… Difficult to score on by going straight at him – he alters as many shots as he blocks… The southpaw can make hook shots with either hand. He also has a fairly quick drop-step, spinning to clockwise with his strong hand, but he rarely uses that move… If he receives the ball high in the low post, he usually finishes with ease… A good, not great, rebounder – averaged 10.6 boards per 40 minutes as a senior… Steadily improved each season at ASU – he averaged 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in his freshman year and then averaged 11.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in his senior year… Improved as a free-throw shooter in each season at ASU, making a respectable 69.3 percent of his attempts as a senior… Has good stamina for a 7-footer – averaged 30.9 minutes per game this past season… Mature, coachable, and diligent...

Weaknesses: Bachynski has a limited offensive repertoire, with nearly all of his points coming near the rim on lobs, put-backs, hooks, and occasional layups off cuts to the baskets… Has a lanky body – not a lot of muscle… An average athlete for a big man… Not great at boxing out, and doesn’t aggressively carve out space underneath the basket… Doesn’t make a lot of plays outside his area… Slow to provide weak-side help, and struggles to defend on the perimeter… Not an accomplished passer – averaged just .65 assists per 40 minutes as a senior… Significantly older than your average prospect – will turn 25 in September…

Notes: Bachynski earned the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year award in 2013-14… As a senior, he blocked one of every 14.7 opposing shots and one of every 10.7 two-point attempts… Finished his career with a .560 field-goal percentage (354-of-632), seventh in school history… Posted the first triple-double in Sun Devil history on Dec. 8, 2012, vs. Cal State Northridge, finishing with 13 points, 13 rebounds and a school-record 12 blocks… He took two years off for an LDS mission before beginning his career at ASU… The Canadian national is married, and became a father earlier this month… Comes from a basketball family – his brother, Dallin, plays for the University of Utah, and his sister, Jessica, played in the 2010 Canada Basketball National Championships… Measured exactly 7-feet-2 at the NBA Combine, with a wingspan of 7’4’’ and a standing reach of 9’0.5’’…

Outlook: Bachynski does one thing very well, block shots, and that should be enough to get him a job in the NBA or overseas. His upside is dramatically limited by his age and below-average athleticism. He will likely be hindered by the NBA’s defensive 3-second rule (no more camping underneath the rim), and he will struggle against mobile big men. However, with some added muscle and a more polished offensive game, he could become a valuable spot player in the NBA.

i actually like this guy. He's a little light in the ass but he has good fundamental skills. Nice guy to develop.

Perfect type of player to develop in the dleague.

Thx for the video. I like his timing and hops on blocks. Dude looks like a very good prospect. He must have soft hands cuz he caught some tough passes. it would be nice to develop a cheap Center with shot blocking and ability to finish around the basket. He puts up better looking hooks than Cole.

nixluva @ 2/13/2015 7:57 PM
Looks a bit more skilled and agile than I thought.

BigDaddyG @ 2/13/2015 8:08 PM
Good pick up. I think the season is pretty much over for the W-Knicks, but this is a step in the right direction.
EnySpree @ 2/13/2015 8:50 PM
I love the write up on nbadraft.Net.... says he is a shot blocker supreme first and foremost. That's gotta get alot of your juices flowing.

I might be a little too excited but i really like this pick up.

He is already 25 yrs old even though he just came out, took a Morman Mission, which is not great for his ability to get bigger.
BigDaddyG @ 2/13/2015 10:05 PM
It looks like he's been back since Nov.

He is exactly a year older than Wear.

I don't like Wear ability to get bigger either. Wear will have to gain strength and hope he can make it as a 3. His lack of handle will hurt him though.

Hopefully, Jordan will be a good find and maybe come up sometime after the deadline to see if he has NBA talent. I just don't like that he was a man against boys during his college year.

BRIGGS @ 2/13/2015 10:21 PM
Bachinski is the epitome of a #50 pick in the draft. You are not married to him--but you give him a legit chance to make it. Guys who are 7-2 who can play need to be looked at.

I'm not sure why it is you think that neither Wear nor Bachynski can put on more muscle cuz of their age? Wear is not exactly a skinny dude anyway. It's really going to be up to the dedication they have to diet and training. Besides I don't really think it's as much of a problem as it's being made out to be. It'll be interesting to see how they develop. Gotta like Bachynski's size and shot blocking ability tho.

The video you posted shows Bachynski s really good going to his right and left. He is the perfect prospect for the d league. Bachynski is a guy not quite ready for the nba but one that could become a rotation player if given time to develop.

Finestrg @ 2/14/2015 12:59 AM
I've been talking about adding some shot-blocking for next year -- a Jeff Withey, Khem Birch, we keep Aldrich, etc. Add this guy's name to the list. NBAdraft.net mentions Jeff Withey as a comparison to Bachynski -- I think that's a good one. Very similar. I feel like if we can grab a couple of rim protectors that we can shuffle in and out of the lineup, then a guy like Enes Kanter could work here.
BigRedDog @ 2/14/2015 1:49 AM
He does look like he has some skills. If he really is 7'2" I think he's a real good project. Def. at least a 3rd string center that gives your bench some height and depth

I think if the guy can prove he can hold his ground against pro competition, then he needs to be playing at msg. 7'2" with his mobility and fundamental skill is at a premium. I can't wait to catch some games with him at Westchester.

fishmike @ 2/14/2015 10:18 AM
It's hard to gauge his athleticism by those videos because there is not context. He might be slow as molasses. Go look up some Cole Aldridge vids from his college days to see what I mean. Like Briggs said... He's tall long and has some skills. Gotta take a look
