Carmelo Anthony, rehabbing from surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon, was seen on the court two hours before tip-off doing stretching exercises. Anthony hasn’t spoken to the media since the surgery.

Wow, now we are stuck with Calderon, nobody is going to want to take calderon off our hands.
I thought the news that Melo was back on the court stretching 5 weeks after he had a surgery that is supposed to side line him for 4-6 months was good news. I expected the Calderon announcement.

That would be great. A regular summer of working out has to be better than a summer of rehab.
Good news- hopefully his recovery period is on the shorter end of the projected timetable.
The real question now- does he put on some muscle to play at the 4, or does he slim down (and remain slim) to play at the 3?

Put on muscle?Melo is strong as hell, Melo can easily play the four. it is his shoulders that is a major concern.
Carmelo is more of a banger. He has terrific low-post skills, does great getting his own rebounds and put backs. He's not going to get slim enough for the 3.
Good to hear .. A healthy melo and a new team of good players next year will be fun to watch !

I wonder if this impacts any decision to stretch him or not. Is he expected back 100% now for next year? Can anyone guarantee that? If stretching him was never an option, maybe it will be now.
Another way to go with Calderon possibly -- if his health is iffy now after the achilles problem--at his age, would he contemplate retirement? I kind of like the idea of getting him to retire somehow but retaining him as a coach. He could be a valuable member of Fisher's staff. A fellow modern player/fellow PG, a guy that seems to have good insight into things (I always see him talking to players/explaining things during timeouts), still has a feistiness to him (he's just an older player now, but the competitiveness is still there), seems like a good guy, even though he's Spanish he speaks English well enough (no communication problems) -- if we could get a decent young PG to groom, having Fisher AND Calderon around as mentors would be great. Also, Calderon's always been a good outside shooter/FT shooter. Having he and H2O around as shooting coaches could help as well. He retires, comes off the cap as a player and we make up the salary to him as a coach. Wouldn't even have to stretch him. Everyone wins. Unless there are rules in place forbidding such a move (did something like this happen when H2O packed it in? I can't remember now).. Just a thought. I can definitely see this guy coaching eventually. I think he'd be a good one.

Yep. Also, Early is finally playing well and the Knicks have Thanasis on deck from that trade. Listening to espn radio tonight and they were talking about knicks vs. Kentucky. One of the guys said the Knicks team is so young it is different from other pro squads going against Kentucky. It has been a long time since the Knicks have been 'so young'.

Then why did he call his first off-season a failure? That too was on purpose? Why would you add triple the PG salary commitment by replacing Felton with Calderon if all you wanted to do was tank? Why not at least get draft picks for Tyson? The picks are players in the future and wouldn't interfere with tanking. If Phil did this on purpose, he executed it idiotically. Even people who love what he's done like Nixluva have admitted this year's failure was accidental.

One thing that is different though. He didn't make a sacrifice the teams future to make a run at the 8th seed trade. He reset and went with the best direction available. Hopefully Early continues his recent good play and Thanasis turns into a rotation player so that the Tyson trade can be revisited and not looked at as awful. I don't think Phil did badly in his other moves.
