Knicks · Basis of free agency (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 4/1/2015 11:29 PM
Draft #1 Towns
Sign Enes Kanter 4 years 64mm
Sign Will Barton 3 years 12mm
Resign Schveyd 3 years 15mm
Waive and stretch Jose Calderon
Keep Hardaway Early Galloway Aldrich--invite Ledo to SL Gone--Lance Thomas Lou Admundson(I was pulling for him but hes been brutal)Bargs(Id keep him for 1 year 3mm but he wont stay)Jay Smith Larkin

See if we can acquire another #1 later in the rd for n additional big and a couple of 2's for the high level of guards in the 2nd round--Id like to bring 4 to SL drafted/undrafted. This is a very unique opportunity for guards later in this draft unprecedented talent and depth that will make NBA rosters--some will thrive--Knicks job find thos e two!

Drafting Towns signing kanter is the backbone--everything else will fall in place. Barton is an under the radar 6-6 hybrid SG who plays really good defense 4mm take it leave it or
match it.
I have my own targets if we get an additional 1 and some 2's--I really want Christian Wood for the longer term. He reminds me a lot of a young Camby with more offensive skills. We could have a dominant 3 man rotating post and the oldest cat would be 23.

EwingsGlass @ 4/1/2015 11:47 PM
Trade the #1 Pick for Kobe (beef, not the player).
Sign Shveddy and Bargs to max contracts. Then try trade them as a package deal. Get your MaxShveddyBargs here...
Buy no less than 4 2nd rd picks and use them to select anyone on Marbury's chinese championship team not named Marbury. Then you can watch some Knicks win a championship (did he ever answer why he ate petroleum jelly?)
Trade for Nene and sign Enes. Say their names together 10 times fast. Nickname your front court Sneeze. or Snaynay
yellowboy90 @ 4/1/2015 11:49 PM
i think thats a bad summer but to each their own but why are you cutting Calderon when you are not actually using the money freed up?

yellowboy90 wrote:i think thats a bad summer but to each their own but why are you cutting Calderon when you are not actually using the money freed up?

You'd be getting the best available post player in free agency by a mile. Towns is the compliment and Wood is a third big who will be developing with Towns---essentially 3 7 footers to anchor my team

I like Barton and would try to outspend Denver by just a tad--3 years 12mm--if they match the 4mm per--then so be it.

I dont want to spend big money on a SG. We need to get aggressive in the 2nd half of this unprecedented talent rich draft and develop what we have.

At the end we should have money left over and we can see how is standing.

The basis--completely rebuild the post--that is core #1.

Retain Shveyd--core#2

Opportunistically look for a player who has a defensive first mentality but two way skills and overall upside at good cost. That makes my backcourt with Schved 6-6 and 6-6--this will REALLY help with our perimeter D. Wed essentially be one of the biggest teams in the NBA.

Waive Calderon and with whatever cap I have--keep opportunistic and flexible for 1 year deals. Calderon is gone--that would also be one of my core requirements-hes gone.

crzymdups @ 4/2/2015 12:00 AM
I like the idea of rebuilding the post. Just wish we'd kept Shump and JR and shipped out THjr.
BRIGGS @ 4/2/2015 12:06 AM
crzymdups wrote:I like the idea of rebuilding the post. Just wish we'd kept Shump and JR and shipped out THjr.

Nah we can do much better than JR and Shump. Go look at highlights of Will Barton--I think we can get him. Hes better than Shump by far. Also you know that I know what Im talking about--the guards that will roll into rd 2--there are going to be a couple of all stars and a bunch of roational players this year--you watch(Im talking longer term) if the Knicks can do homework be able to acquire some picks and score---well its certainly plausible. We need darts thats for sure.

BRIGGS @ 4/2/2015 12:11 AM
There are very few athletic defenders who also have two way skills like this--this is good money spent. Hes a 5 tool guy He can shoot defend pass rebound block shots play over the rim and handle.

nixluva @ 4/2/2015 12:19 AM
I like a few RFA's the best. Butler, K Middelton, Kanter etc. But I don't expect that we'll be able to pry them from their current teams so i'm going with UFA's.

#1 Towns
Monroe
Melo
Danny Green
Shved

#2 OK4
Ajinca (cheap, skilled and big)
Melo
Danny Green
Shved

#3 Russell
Monroe
Ajinca
Melo
Shved

#4 Winslow or Mudiay
Monroe
Ajinca
Melo
Shved

Kanter is worth the time effort and money to forward a frontloaded maximum contract with large trade kickers and a no trade clause. As repeat tax offenders--it would cost OKC over 60mm NEXT year at a minimum to pay for Kanters contract. They would have little time to unload Ibaka as hes going to go into free agency still hurt.

here are my goals

1. Draft pick = Towns/Cauley stein?okafor
2. SG shooter = Dgreen or G.Green (for about $7-9mill)
3. SF wing = Middleton or T.Harris ($8-12mill)
4. Defensive wings = KJ McDaniels/Carroll/G.Henderson/D.Wright ($6mill)
5. stop gap PGs = Beverley/Mo williams ($5mill) = the better ones like Dragic wont be avail
6. Back up bigs = Seraphin/BWright/O'Quinn/Ajinca ($3 mill)

that comes out to about $35

7. Keep the scrubs we have now as back up 10-15 roster men: Shved/Thomas/Amundson/Smith/Galloway

Lineup
PG Beveley = 3&D guy
SG D. Green = 3&D guy
SF Harris = young SF
PF Melo = PF now with age and bad knee
C Towns = young big man
---------------
Bench
PG Shved - tall PG
SG THardaway = maybe he becomes consistent
SF KJ McDaniel - athletic wing defender
PF Seraphin/OQuinn - young post man
C Wright - defender
------------------
Scrubs/Depth
SG Galloway - hes earned it
SF Thomas - sure why not
PF Amundsen - sure hes earned it
C Smith - nice mid range game
C Bynum - why not?!

Overall = i think this team could be good enough to win 40 games and get knocked out in the 1st rd. the following yr when there are REAL free agents, Id look to sign PG Conley

Do people ever realize that Danny Green avg barely 10 points twice in his career? We want to hand out 9mm to Danny Green?

good point BRIGGS. but i inflated all of these salaries cuz of the rising cap. and players will have the audacity to ask for double of what theyre worth. plus he does have a coveted skill. dont 4get that meeks just got $9mill from detroit for the same skill set.

that was my reasoning

If Green is in the right role he is one of the those no-stats, advanced metrics all-stars.

There's no basis for that caveat - he's never been in a "wrong role"

Amazing how people still want timmy on this team, yet they want to let a veteran like Lou go who could be a great use next season.Basing Lou Amundsons performace of a tank series is silly.

Danny Green is one of those underrated guys. He does everything you need from your SG. A cheaper version of Matthews. He's on a team where his stats will be limited but on the Knicks he'll be able to stretch a little more and he's a very efficient player. As always one of my rules is that pilfering a Spurs player is always a good move. I feel the same way about Cory Joseph.

I think that when you overload advanced stats you cannot see the trees through the forest.

First I was able to watch Will barton and through my eyes I saw one hecvuva looking prospect.--check
Next step follow such player when you can--see if he can play like what you saw against other teams--check
Give him extended playing time and see what he can do with it--check
Age athletic ability usage--check

He's a baby who looks like he can be one nice piece. FIRST chance hes gotten at extended minutes hes 12-5-2-1 46.5% 35% in 25 minutes and hes a solid athletic defender--long. Other than volume 3 point shooting for the money Barton is a better player per cost of dollar with more upside than Green. Because Green is on the Spurs hes going to cost big $$ money he is not NEARLY worth. You do have to overpay in FA--but the Spurs are smart--they wont pay him big--they will simply go back to their formula of find another for cheap. The second round of this draft will be UNPRECEDENTED in G talent and it spills over to undrafted. I'm sure we can find a steal there if we look hard. Id like to keep my options open. Id be happy with Kanter Barton and a premium draft pick--then I have money to be opportunistic with--see what still on the table and if not good enough keep open for during the year or to just sign solid 1 year contracts. If I waive Calderon I essentially sign Shveyd for nothing. So Im spending 23.5 mm on the draft pick Barton and Kanter which should leave me open around 6-7mm
