Knicks · yeah... DeMarre Carroll is playing himself into a max contract (page 1)

crzymdups @ 5/6/2015 1:20 AM
22pts 6reb 4ast tonight to lead the Hawks.

Another dude we ain't getting unless we offer a max deal.

callmened @ 5/6/2015 1:27 AM
yeah that was never happening. WHy would he leave a great situation to go to a horrible rebuilding one? at least go from great to good...not great to awful.. lol
crzymdups @ 5/6/2015 1:32 AM
I think the Knicks will be good next season, but the Hawks have cap room and will likely be very good and he has a role with a good coach.

I just think people are being unrealistic even with some of the unrestricted free agents. A lot of guys are gonna stay home if they're in good situations.

Knicks need to find their own DeMarre Carroll or Danny Green, not overpay for someone else's

holfresh @ 5/6/2015 1:40 AM
Carrol a max guy, come on..please, not for us..Hope he resigns with the Hawks..

Because you sell next years team on being different than this years- Melo back, top draft pick, other free agents etc. Some players will buy it. Also we offer a bigger market and more media exposure- a double edged sword for sure, but different players have different needs at different points of their careers.

blkexec @ 5/6/2015 7:32 AM
If he think NY is the media capital and the best marketing place to be for his brand....plus make more money.....why wouldnt he leave? Phil is going to be the main draw for free agents. We dont need them all....just 3 good ones. The triangle can turn an average player into a stat stuffing player. Especially for role players burried on their current team. I think the free agents with east coast roots will be all ears this summer.
Bonn1997 @ 5/6/2015 8:41 AM
Yes, and that's a problem. For two guys with comparable career #s, Green is probably going to be a much better bargain than Carroll.
It would be crazy to pay Carroll based on these recent games. Almost half his threes and 2/3 of his 2s happen to be falling right now.

Maybe if someone was in a cave the past 14 months I could understand those comments.

Let's ignore years of evidence and grossly overpay a dude for what he did during a short stint in the playoffs? I know one guy who approves this strategy.

Another dude we ain't getting unless we offer a max deal.

Just one game man, which won't affect his market value overnight.

It was his sixth straight playoff game with 20 points or more.

Players get paid or not paid based on the playoffs all the time. See JR Smith as an example of a guy who cost himself a fortune right after winning sixth man of the year for his playoffs immplosion.

And DeMarre is pretty young. I dunno.

I know it happens and usually ends up being a mistake more often times than not. It's never a good idea to pay someone based off such a small sample size. Also, he's not that young. He's about the same age as Danny Green and just a year younger than Trevor Ariza.

nixluva @ 5/6/2015 1:17 PM
DeMarre is going to be 29 this July. He's having a great playoffs but we have to keep things in perspective. How many teams will be shopping for a 29 yr old role player at SF this summer? He's nice player but let's not get crazy either. Guys like DeMarre, Danny Green and Wesley Matthews are great players to have when you have even better players who can create shots and open things up for them. It's not like you're gonna be giving the ball to these guys and getting out of the way. That's why they don't get the Max.
Nalod @ 5/6/2015 1:31 PM
The key is to get a player that you think will thrive in the system you play.
Not after he breaks out!!!
Kwai before he is MVP.
Kobe at 13th pick
Jordan at the 3rd pick.
The list is long. Shit ain't easy.
The key to brilliance is to see things others don't
RonRon @ 5/6/2015 1:36 PM
I don't think ONE person agreed with him when I liked Carroll when he was a FA and playing for Utah, no I didn't think he would develop to the player he was today but I thought he was a high energy player and played the "right way" that we need, calling him a junkyard dog type of player at the time...

I think you are close to being dead on. He may not get a pure max(although he might)--but he IS going to get 13mm+ think about it with 12 teams with more than max cap space--can u think of 12 players who will be available? One smart team will offer Demmarre a high amount given these contracts come at a 71% discount. And you're right hes playing like a max player right now. Hes playing just as well or better than Butler or Leonard. He destroyed Danny Greens playoff numbers.
