Knicks · Who do you take, HYPOTHETICALLY, at 5th? (page 1)

crzymdups @ 5/13/2015 10:54 AM
Assuming the Knicks get screwed and get the 5th pick and the top four picks go Towns, Okafor, Russell, Mudiay... who do you like at 5th?

I've been looking at Stanley Johnson. I like that kid a lot. I think he'll be very good. Maybe you don't take him 5th, maybe you trade down... but I think he's gonna be good.

My top three choices at five would be:

1) Stanley Johnson
2) Justice Winslow
3) Willie Cauley Stein

mreinman @ 5/13/2015 10:55 AM
Winslow for sure
crzymdups @ 5/13/2015 11:01 AM
Getting five would be extremely disappointing, but I think I could live with WCS, Winslow or Stanley Johnson.

I feel like Stanley Johnson is one of those really good players who falls a bit in the lottery because teams overrate the potential of big men or international guys.

Moonangie @ 5/13/2015 11:11 AM
Tough choice between Winslow and WCS, but I think going with BPA I'd take Winslow. Let's hope it doesn't come to that as the top four are the real prizes in this draft.

Give me Towns or give me _________!

RonRon @ 5/13/2015 11:57 AM
Towns/OK4

Russell *assuming he would be drafted prior to 5*
Mudiay

Justice Winslow
Marion Henzoja

Would not be dissapointed if we were able to draft any of the above in my opinion, while the ones below have huge question marks if they could be game changes or rotation players, or being able to develop to STARTING TALENTS or not, Frank the Tank if he can defend at NBA Level or be as efficient on OFFENSE with the NBA size/athleticism/speed/quickenss mobility though with more 1v1's and less zones as well
While WCS is very comparable to a YOUNG Tyson Chandler but we need much more than a role player that must be developed as well, he will be a defensive liability, and unless he is able to develop like Noah has improved from the NCAA to the player a couple of seasons ago with the start of Derrick Rose's injury, that made him a triple double threat with 2-3 blocks, 1-2 steals per game, which is highly unlikely

I do not think outside of Noah that there has been one player that improved that much in all his weakness's and strenghts, while getting bigger/stronger in the NBA, while projected to be role players/rotational players
If we did draft WCS, I would hope to find out how Noah improved so much and the trainers/development staff that saw what and how he was able to improve within thost couple of years
He got bigger, stronger, while getting more athletic/mobile, and added so much skills to his game and would be perfect for the Triangle when he had his career years

Frank Kaminski, WCS, Kristaps Porzingis, Trey Lyes

or trading the pick which Phil Jackson has said they were willing to do especially at 5

Really would have to depend if Lakers lose their pick to Philly, or not, as they would have 2 TOP 6 picks along with their bilion other upcoming draft picks and already owns some draft rights to players International/Europe

Let the Walter Tavaras, Dennis Schoredder, possibly Shabazz Muhhummed, Tony Wroten BEGIN!!!

Along with possible buy low target in Tony Wroten for a swap of picks especially if Lakers fall out and Philly owns 2 1st rounders in TOP 6/7...
There are a couple of talents that we could use on the Philly roster and they simply have a lack of roster spots to fit all the picks they will have upcoming in this draft alone, and many more in future drafts to account for, even if they could trade for MULTIPLE TOP TIER STARS like Durant/Whiteside/Westbrook and giving a good return for TOP TIER TALENTS TO BUILD AROUND

Robert Covington
Thomas Robinson
Ish Smith/Cannon
Hollis Thompson/Jakarr Sampson/Grant

Either in 6 or 7 days we will have a better understanding as the Ping Pong Ball results will be in!

Knixkik @ 5/13/2015 12:05 PM
Winslow would have to be the pick, even though i think there's a big drop between the top 4 guys and him. Still like him, just not nearly as much as the top guys. But i would look at trade options too.

Id answer this question in June--its somewhat hard now to be definitive. I want to see what Frank Kaminsky come sin at athletically. If I could do a trade down where I get Kaminksy another big and a 2016#1 I might do that among other things.

I would have J.Winslow at the top but i think both the euros are being somewhat overlooked and both have a chance to be really good NBA players so i'd put K.Porzingis next cause we need size and then i'd put M.Hezonja in there and i'm also still high on S.Johnson who 3/4 months ago was talked about as a top 3 pick but his name kinda went away as the season went on even though his numbers were still good.

1--J.Winslow
2--K.Porzingis
3--M.Hezonja
4--S.Johnson or W.Cauley.Stein

NYKBocker @ 5/13/2015 12:19 PM
Justice Winslow or Mario Hezonja
Nalod @ 5/13/2015 12:31 PM
Hard to pigeonhole WCS as simply "Tyson". Like Towns who has more range, so two might this kid.
WCS ran with that Notre dame kid down the floor and covered his ass on defense step by step. A 7 footer did that!

Thats says "athlete". What we don't know is what is he capable of doing offensively? Kentucky platoon system was pretty rigid. We are learning that Towns in high school had a good handle and could shoot from the three.
His HS coach was very impressed with what Cal did with his inside game at the college level.
My point is what is WCS capable of besides us comparing him to Tyson? Lyles had a very good offensive game so WCS got few touches.

Winslow could be the dominant Alpha star in the making? Mudiay a Marbury? OJ mayo? Pearl Washington? Or an Oscar? WCS more offensivly polished than shown?
Does someone want to trade with us?

Hypothetically we keep the pick, I guess my choice is Winslow, but unlike some of you I really don't have enough information. I guess I would narrow it down to my three.

To me Phil knows what he wants. I suppose if Winslow/Mundiay as the upside killer side as Kobe and Jordan than you go there. Melo off the ball finishing would be excellent. WCS is a great athlete. Hakeem had little offensive game coming out of college. Can't say WCS athletic prowess is the same as Hakeem. Ewing was quite an athlete as well and shocked us with his ability to shoot.

smackeddog @ 5/13/2015 12:59 PM
Winslow with some nice measurements : 6'6.5 in shoes with a 6'10.25 wingspan (butlers is only 6'7.5)
Knicks1969 @ 5/13/2015 1:52 PM
Trade the pick to get Winslow and the other 7 footer from Kentucky.

I might go in the same way but how the workouts go is going to be the real kicker imo.

Im a big fan of Johnson also. He could really be a nice Artest type player without the mental case aspect. I do think Winslow passed him with the great tourney but really I think its workout dependant. You figure some of these guys have skills that didnt fit into their CBB systems.

No to WCS for me. He's a guy your thrilled to have fall to you at 8-12 because he's good but also really really one dimensional and so flawed. I mean the upside is Tyson, and if there is no flu that is pretty good. He and Melo were two halves of one player, but were great in that 54 win season. Teams really had no answer for that combo.

After the two bigs and Russell its all open for me. I feel like the xfactor guy is Mario with that shooting, size, athleticism and he's a very intense dude. He's got a TMac type skill set.

mreinman @ 5/13/2015 2:55 PM
so by winning those last STUPID games, our chances of getting a top 3 went from 65 to 55 percent.

Phish better hope that we don't fall out and lose one of these guys. If this happens and we reach (and fail), then they will never live it down.

Knowing our luck, that is exactly what is going to happen.

I feel a little worried about Mario because he's had so little playing time over there. He does seem to be skilled... but I dunno. Stanley Johnson, Justice Winslow and WCS - I've seen all those guys compete at a high level and they look like very good players who could turn into all-stars. WCS is maybe not an all-star, so I see the hesitation there.

Hopefully we get a top three pick and don't have to worry about pick 5, but I was just curious what folks were thinking.

H1AND1 @ 5/13/2015 7:11 PM
At first I wasn't huge on Winslow but I'm a believer now. I think he can play the 2 a la Jimmy Buckets which makes all the difference.

If 1)Towns 2)Okafor 3)Russell are off the board the pick in my eyes is Winslow.

BRIGGS @ 5/13/2015 7:22 PM
Im surprised--am I the only guy who likes Kaminsky? If you put him at face 4 the guy is 7-1 with a sniper for a shot. Winslow measured at 6-5 220.

I think Frank for what we do is the best pick at 3 -4-5. If we can get Kaminsky + add an asset or a 2016 pick in rd 1 its a frikin no brainer. Dont overlook kamisky at 4.

yellowboy90 @ 5/13/2015 7:24 PM
Winslow measured 6'4.5 w/o shoes
yellowboy90 @ 5/13/2015 7:35 PM
Russell measured 6'5 in shoes with a 6'10 wingspan. Oh my. His apparently have some decent size mits too.
