Knicks · How Much Was JR Smith Really Worth? (page 1)

mreinman @ 5/20/2015 11:29 PM
How GM got a bag of nada for him.

This could be the move that saved Cleveland

Based on the way he has played, we could have gotten 2 first rounders for him ala mozgov (well not really but ...)

Is our GM making bad moves or are all the GM's dealing with him just getting lucky?

markvmc @ 5/20/2015 11:30 PM
Smegma.
gunsnewing @ 5/20/2015 11:33 PM
A lot more than a 14yr old
ala a 2nd round pick from OKC in 2019

Shumpert was a worthless RFA gonner anyway

I would make a terrible GM ... obviously

Its good that they don't pay me to be a GM ... or maybe if they would pay me, I would be less emotional and make moves while even keel

You can also find many posts of me saying that JR can be a top player in the league if he was not such a bonehead and played with better players.

I also now realize how good melo makes other players.

NY Melo or Denver Melo?

JR went back to his Denver role and Shump has basically stayed his hot occasionally, hurt/injured, below avg player self.

I give the lack of nightlife, JR playing for money, and the phil Jackson chip on his shoulder.

As Ephus on KB likes to say, " There's two things about JR we all know, there is nothing he can't do on the basketball court and there is nothing he won't do on the basketball court."

franco12 @ 5/21/2015 12:02 AM
the jr we had was not worth anything. sure, if we had traded him after his 6th man year, we maybe could have gotten a pick or two.

don't blame the GM, blame JR for playing like crap.

It is more about what James CAN do than what Anthony CANNOT do.

And even when he won the 6th Man award he ended his season on a bad note, at a time when the Knicks really needed him to step up He was more interested in hanging out with Rihanna (“His a– be hungover from clubbing every night during playoffs.”) than performing for the Knicks.

Now he has this in his life, and all is good: LeBron James: I’m J.R. Smith’s life coach

JR in nyc was BAD news...he wasnt focused cuz he always went out.he admitted this himself. here in harlem, hed always be hanging out flirting with girls...like RIGHT BEFORE GAMES. now in boring cleveland he can stay inside and focus. also he has a great player to attract attention and pass to him. i have no problem getting rid of him. he wasn an embarrassment to the organization.

could we have gotten more? sure. but its done. he's gone

smackeddog @ 5/21/2015 2:19 AM
Breathtaking hypocrisy!

Also JRs value would have even further decreased if we hadn't traded him- everyone looks bad on a losing team, and he would have started acting up.

Players trade value isn't objective, it's subjective- if all the teams in the league think a players crap then it doesn't matter if they aren't, you won't get anything of value for them- that isn't Phil's fault.

nixluva @ 5/21/2015 2:36 AM
Also Phil tried to give it a shot with JR and Shump. He didn't ship them off before the season. He did recognize that they had talent but he needed to see if they could actually excel in his system. Some may disagree with the idea of selecting a prescribed system rather than just playing to the players strengths but Phil has a purpose behind it. If you have a player like Lebron then it almost doesn't matter what system you run or if you even run any system at all. Lebron is the system basically!!! We don't have that luxury.

Phil is basically taking the approach of going with a known quantity. He knows his system and what kind of players should be successful in that system. He knows all of the roles and what kind of talent each of those roles requires. He couldn't control JR's desire or willingness to adapt and learn. That was up to JR. At this point Phil is going to bring in a new core group. JR is in a good spot for him and the same with Shump. I only care about what players we're going to bring in.

callmened @ 5/21/2015 2:45 AM
correct. If anything i wish we kept shumpert. at least he played defense and he had a work ethic. however he was too injury prone, couldnt shoot and he was starting to chirp behind the scenes. im still happy theyre gone and it doesnt surprise me that theyre playing well becuase both are talented. maybe we chouldve gottenmore but based on their play and resume at the time, they werent worth much
skeng @ 5/21/2015 4:07 AM
I don't care how well JR does for whoever the fuck. Fuck him and his brother. And his sorry ass should quit with that "one man's trash is another man's treasure" bullshyt! Just be happy we shipped you to fuckin Cleveland to contend for a ring.

yikes. a lil harsh. but i agree with your overall sentiments. lol

Silverfuel @ 5/21/2015 4:12 AM
JR could go AWOL any minute like he did during the playoffs in our 54 win season. He had to be traded.
