Knicks · Realistically - can we get a late first rounder for THjr? Early second rounder? (page 3)

BRIGGS @ 5/27/2015 10:17 PM
Can I ask this question?

What is the strategy of the second 1st round pick? Where do you want it who are you targeting? Will cost fray value?

This is a deep draft--can you wait for something similar in rnd 2 or even undrafted?

Knicks1969 wrote:Given the success all exknicks are having, if I were THJ I would welcome a trade. He certainly regressed under the titullage of Fisher; and I don't foresee him getting better. He has the tools to be a special player, he just needs a strong hand like Pop to get it out of him.

Timmy did not regress. Fisher held his feet to the fire to play defense and Timmy lost or recreationally responded by bricking for a year. Then, at the end of the season he poisoned the tank. IMO, malicious behavior. Showing him the door is too good for him IMO.

Willing to agree on the defense, cannot believe that Hardaway would act with an intent to hurt the team in this manner. You are also giving him credit for having some kind of Jordanesque, Birdlike, or Magic ability to turn on his game at will. THJ does not have this ability, sadly.

Another issue is that, for the most part, he continued to play Woodson ball. Stand around on the perimeter when you don't have the ball, usually watching what Anthony will do, wait for the ball so you can shoot a 3, do some kind of ISO move for a shot, and if none exists, pass the ball off. He is not the type to move or cut to the basket after he passes the ball, which seems to be the preferred actions in the Triangle (I have seen Galloway even set picks.).

Hardaway did go to the hoop more often this year, and even showed creativity at times, but more often it was when he was dribbling.

I'm hoping that Hardaway can be salvaged, and at the very least he can become an off the bench spark plug who moves around like a Reddick type player, but cut to the basket more often.

The question we must all ask ourselves is: how much the organization is willing to invest to ascertain that our young talented players are developing. So far all I have seen is players movement left and right

I'm someone who wants to keep the guys the teams drafts or finds (Mosgov/Galloway types), and this might even get in the way of my judgment every now and then.

The only "benefit" of being a bad team is the draft, and the Knicks have generally failed to draft wisely, used their drafted players in trades, or they have traded their future picks for this or that player.

It is quite frustrating. Not much else to say.

With so many roster spots available, it couldnt hurt to wait until the trade deadline next year to give THJ an extended look. Hardaway acknowledged that he has work to do which is a step in the right direction. If he does start playing like he did his rookie season we would be getting an SG on the cheap which lets the Knicks use cap space to shore up other positions.

Agree. I wonder who he (THJ) is currently working with to help him understand defensive principles. Last year in an interview, he referenced Shumpert as one of his mentors; which in my opinion was sort of weird.

I believe this kid is a project who can turn out to be special if coached correctly. I simply don't trust any of our current coaches to really mold this kid

for the guys crying about losing Towns and the #1 blame THjr not Fisher. Fisher did the right thing.. play the most inconsistant player on the roster the whole game. Figures Timmy finds his stroke with 3 games left and it costs us in the draft.

On the guys lamenting Shump.. yes, he's a good player and could have a roll here. But look at the roster. We have $27mm in cap space. How much are you paying Shump? Are you picking up his $4mm QO? Are you going to give him something that starts at $6mm a year? Guy misses half the season every year, so while yes... you can say it sucks we dumped him for nothing we was the cost of dumping JR, and it was a player we were not resigning. Show me the scenario where we resign him. I dont see it

Still say you have to look at Anthony's decision to play through the All-Star game, and Jackson's failure to shut him down immediately upon finding that he would need surgery.

Hurt our chances of getting #1, and also kept Anthony from having more time to recover and rebuild his body. He's not 24 anymore- he could use the extra time to recover.

Hardaway is not good enough to turn his game one and off. He might well have shot poorly at the end of the year. His shooting well unfortunate, Anthony playing and Phil not putting his foot down was idiotic and detrimental to the team's future.

I think CLE's pick at 24 is in play when you consider that there will be a minimum net gain of $35 million just to bring back their core players with exception to Love. If they do-resign Love then they may end up with one of the highest payrolls of all-time, which will lead to a hefty tax bill. Considering that their franchise has a long history of squandering or trading picks, I think they'll move their 2015 pick for cash. Even so, I wouldn't put it past them to have interest in THJr either because Mike Miller and James Jones are getting up there in age. For all of his flaws, THJr is a very good floor space and moves well without the ball, which are two qualities that are invaluable on a contender, especially one with LeBron James.

I happen to think this draft is twenty deep, 5-20 being riskier and with slightly lower upsides than 1-4 but a handful of really good players are just sitting there for the taking.

So to answer your question, if we draft 4 and get a PG then in the 5-20 mix there are lots of big men worth trading into assuming a trade is there. OTOH, if we manage to see Okafor drop to 4 (and its very possible, then I'd be looking to draft Terry Rozier in the second round or should he drop through the draft. He's not ranked highly but looks like a sleeper pick to me.

Philly is sitting there with 35 and 37, Hardy for those two picks might be worthwhile.

I also suggested the JR Smith trade exception could be offered to Minnesota for Chase Budinger and picks #31 and #36.

So there's possibilities.

THjr, what can I say. Candidate for ROTY. An untapped talent , capable of becoming a top SG in the league devoid of such.

Consistency is an issue, just like it is with nearly all young players. That's to be expected. Defense is a major red flag, and THsr surely has told him that over the years. THjr does not seem to be interested. Fine, one can still be a starting SG without being a good defender, but in order to win the rest of the team would have to compensate.
Will he ever. Be a good player for the Knicks? I think the answer is no. Not because of who he is , nor because of his game. THsr has a deep dislike for the Knicks and somehow, somewhere , on genetic level or otherwise it just doesn't make sense that his son would contribute to our success. I personally think that THJ tanked the season. He wants to be moved. We need to come up with a way to make his wish come true, but I want to get a fair trade. Enough with other teams taking our lunch money. I am done with that. Let's build our players value up and then trade them

I understand the sentiment to sell "high" but that rarely happens. When he's winning games is not the time to trade him. Goofing around with trying to salvage Timmy's career is a waste of our time as a team. Gallo and Shved can't sit because Timmy needs to get his form back. Timmy had all year to do that.

There's a mystique about players like Timmy - they "might" actually be good. So somebody WILL trade for him. Whatever we get is better than another year of his game.

I will go on a limb and say that THJ will have a great season next year. He will be in his third year in the league and will come in and put in the work to EARN an offer at the end of the season. Money always make people listen or put in the work

how many times do you want to stand on that limb?

We can once again revisit this question at midseason. Unfortunately, the Knicks are alway so quick to trade young talent for players With big contracts. So, one should expect for this kid to be traded; even IF he improves drastically. THJ will come in and ball out of his mind next season.
