Not saying he wasnt a great player even before watching this--but this video shows the unbelievable potential this guy has(should I even use the word potential here?). He looks like a more athletic 260 pound Kevin Durant who has the same potential from the perimeter as he does in the post. I cant imagine him not going #1. Look at his 3 point shooting quick quick release and smooth as it gets. His handle for his enormous physical size is off the charts. This guy will be the best player since Lebron. If he is aggressive he should be a superstar from day 1. We made a generational mistake not losing out. I thought Okafor and Towns were kind of neck and neck--I ve kind of leaned towards ok4 most of the year. Now I think the gap between Karl Towns and 2 is obvious and Karl Towns is the franchise player of this draft and everyone else has a much lesser player. Karl Towns will not have a player who can check him.

wow ... you finally come around.
for so long it was Ok4 who was running away as tim duncan and nobody could check him

Ok4 should be great but this guy is off the charts. He might end up being the best big man anyone has watched. I dont know if he can even be comped.
I am incredibly impressed. I dont think 1 should be a conversation.
Everyone looks great working out by themselves..U ever see the pre game shoot around, the scrubs at the end of the bench look like all stars..

your basing this on his play in the tourny or a workout video?

Ah there is no one who has his size skills/athleticism package even playing a chair.

I think that video speaks 1000 words. Imagine if you never saw Karl Towns before and just watched that video--what would you say--would you even need to see him play a game live?

prolly not ... I am sure that scouts don't need to go to 30 games and can just watch an edited workout video.

It usually looks great until some one is standing between him and the basket...

There is no one who can check him. It would be pretty easy to coach his team from what I see here. The gameplan--lets get Karl 20-25 shots every game.
I remember going to a Knick game and Travis Knight was absolutely lighting it up in warm ups...I couldn't believe this guy wasn't getting the burn he deserves..When he got in game he was an absolute scub..The Knicks was his last stop...

Dwight Howard with a twist of LeBron?

Dwight Howards body I think hes a much better shooter than LBJ. Look at his form
Towns has incredible talent that he wasn't allowed to show with UK. Most of us already knew he could shoot like that. That's why I had him as the #1 pick if we had gotten it. He's a true 2 way player with multiple skills. I actually posted this workout video and others in the Draft Workout Thread.

He is a .25% college in game shooter from the three...
He will be a super super duper star, as we discussed in the other thread about this video.
He and Russell are the stars of this draft. I think Winslow is the other. Okafor it remains to seen, same with Mudiay.
But Towns is miles ahead. I think the next 10-15 years of the NBA as Bron slows down will be about AD and Towns.
Hey Briggs, would you say that playing at Kentucky, the true potential of Towns may have been hidden because of all the talent around him??? Maybe, like, other guys from Kentucky might be better than expected and didn't put up the stats they might have if they didn't play on an absolutely loaded team???

I'd love to see some of the workouts of the great draft busts in NBA history- wonder what we would see. I think someone posted a Joe Alexander workout somewhere.
Has Towns actually said he will not do a private work out for individual teams?
For me, Towns has shown me some glimpses of what he can do in the KU games I saw, but these workouts can be less than helpful at times because, as you said, there is no competition.
Edit- he really looks confident with that outside shot. Seems to go for the quick release instead of the perfect jump and release. Curry actually does this many times- look how low Curry gets off the ground.
Looks to be in great shape as far as muscles. He's clearly been working on his body.
His looks quick out there and has some ball handling skills.
Would be surprised if he did not go #1, but has anyone seen an OK4 workout? And will OK4 be doing individual workouts?
Not sure Towns was given that much freedom on Kentucky to show everything he can do on the offensive end- one reason why we were watching a lot of Kentucky practices.
PS- Sounds like he knows what's going on. Has kind of a geeky voice, no?
Big loss for us. We don't even have a chance to decide whether we do or don't want him.

I dont know is there video of an athletic 7 foot 260 pound 19 year old out there in video land with a draft bust who can handle and shoot like that? Joe Alexander was an excellent athlete but I think he was 6-7 215 that played the 4 in college. He was not a great shooter in college and he had freedom to play. I dont think Kentucky used Karl Towns the right way.
I think Karl shouldve played the 4 and been a lock to take atleast 15 shots every game. How many shots did he take past 5 feet?

To me, the dexterity and mobility and agility and personality he shows in these workouts (combined, I guess, by what I've seen in the Kentucky games I've watched) tells me this kid will be a star. Of course there are any number of things that could wrong in his development - but he's got every possible tool and the right mindset, seemingly, to be a superstar and dominate the league.
The first Karl Towns vs Anthony Davis game (and every matchup after that) will be required viewing.
One of the other things that makes me think Towns will be a star is his maturity - kid is ready. He shows it in every interview.
