The Boston Celtics offered four first-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets for the chance to move up from No. 16 to No. 9. The Celtics were targeting Justise Winslow while the Hornets were settled on taking Frank Kaminsky.

The Celtics offered the 16th pick, No. 15 (acquired in a prearranged contingency deal with the Atlanta Hawks), one unprotected future Brooklyn pick, and a future first-rounder from either the Memphis Grizzlies or Minnesota Timberwolves.

Some members of the Hornets' front office wanted to do the deal with the Celtics, but Michael Jordan preferred Kaminsky over first rounders outside the lottery.

“If it was such a no-brainer for us, why would another team want to do it?” said Rich Cho.

ZACH LOWE/GRANTLAND

Thank god for Jordan. Without him, we might not have Grant.

It was a no brainer, you make that deal.

TWolves signed Andre Miller.

Glad they worked that out. Hayes was a warrior for them.

I think Reed will be a really good pick up for the Nets. Wish he was a Knick.

I thought the Warriors said they wanted Wallace? Nice move for them.

A shame, I think he would have fitted nicely onto this team- was one of my potential targets in the offseason. Now I'm all in on Al Holford (though I suspect we end up with OJ Mayo)

Pelicans waived Toney Douglas. Not a fan of the drafting during the Walsh/D'Antoni years.

There's a good chance that Boston loses two of those 1sts, though, which is kind of why I don't like what they're doing. They're making themselves too good to have access to stars, not good enough to compete for a title or lure free agents. Boston needs to sell assets for a star, but they can't becaause the assets aren't good enough. It's the same problem the Nuggets had after they traded Melo for a bunch of role players.
