Days after the end of the Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers are working on upgrading their roster by shopping the potentially valuable contract of Brendan Haywood, and -- in some cases -- offering it along with the 24th overall pick in Thursday's draft, sources told ESPN.com.

Haywood's $10.5 million contract is not guaranteed for next season if he's waived by Aug. 2. This could be attractive to a team looking to either offload salary now or use it as part of another deal that could be executed during free agency in July.

Calderon for Haywood + pick #24?

EwingsGlass @ 6/19/2015 11:44 AM
If they would do it, I would do it.
crzymdups @ 6/19/2015 11:47 AM
Dear god, yes please. Throw in $3M cash.
technomaster @ 6/19/2015 11:47 AM
Yeah. That'd be a beautiful trade. Especially if we end up with a PG in the draft.
foosballnick @ 6/19/2015 11:56 AM
Would make the trade solely based on it guarantees at least 10 Firewoodson Threads on how the Knicks should never have given away Calderon when he is in the Playoffs next year next to Lebron.

On a serious note - why would the Cavs trade a flexible contract AND the 24th pick for Calderon?

yellowboy90 @ 6/19/2015 12:05 PM
Knicks have little chance of getting that deal done. The pelicans, Mavs, and Heat are more likely choices. Eric Gordan, Monta Ellis, and a long shot is Wade are all potential candidates, imo.
Moonangie @ 6/19/2015 12:08 PM
LOL @ thought of Cavs making such a ridiculous trade, unless Gilbert feels like he "owes" us something for dumping those two regular season studs (and playoff duds) on them.

But just in case he's willing...YES! Do it now. Please.

Andrew @ 6/19/2015 12:15 PM
Is the #24 pick worth Gordon, Ellis or Wade?
JesseDark @ 6/19/2015 12:17 PM
I usually dismiss trade ideas by the time I finish reading them but this one I like.
doomed @ 6/19/2015 12:19 PM
of course you like the trade. Too bad the Cavs would laugh Jackson off the phone if he actually proposed that deal. Might as well offer the Greek for Lebron while we're at it...
Nalod @ 6/19/2015 12:20 PM
Good idea, too bad phil is sleeping in and won't read this thread until its too late!!!!
NardDogNation @ 6/19/2015 12:25 PM
I can't see any permutation of that trade where we also get the 24th pick but do think that the Cavs are poorly run enough to do Brandon Haywood for Calderon, straight-up. I'd even throw in THJr, Early and/or Jason Smith/Cole Aldrich to grease the wheels for them. That'd be $10 million of additional cap space we'd be able to create; $37 million total. That'd be too good to pass up.
JrZyHuStLa @ 6/19/2015 12:26 PM
You know its a trade that the other team would never consider when 10 Knicks posters are saying yes.
TPercy @ 6/19/2015 12:29 PM
Throw in Tim Hardaway Jr as well
SupremeCommander @ 6/19/2015 12:39 PM
I'd love that
Finestrg @ 6/19/2015 12:40 PM
Yeah, or Denver which may be looking to unload Ty Lawson. I feel like Lawson or any of the guys Yellow mentioned is what they'd be looking for, not Calderon. I mean Jose would've gotten chewed up and spit out by those GS guards during the Finals. Can't picture them thinking he could be an answer for them. I think they'd be better off with Dellavedova if it came down to him or Calderon...Unless we offer other assets like Galloway, THJ and/or Early along with Calderon. To make this work, I'd throw it all on the table for them. I know for a fact we could replace Galloway, THJ and Early with better players and do it for next to nothing, so to get the 24th pick out of it--that'd be a score. The Cavs may look at these 3 as more valuable assets than they really are. They did with JR and Shump.. And if we could incorporate Calderon for Haywood and then immediately waive Haywood, that's a homerun trade. I dunno, to me trading Galloway, THJ AND Early (all 3) is definitely worth unloading Calderon's contract and getting the 24th pick...Trouble picturing it but who knows.. Pick up the phone, Phil.

Is the #24 pick worth Gordon, Ellis or Wade?

I'm sure Dallas and New Orleans would simply settle for the cap space the 24 pick would be a super bonus. With Wade it would be a way to get him a big payday on his way out of Miami.

Another option would be a 3team deal with the Clips/Cavs/Heat

Heat - the #24 and Haywood

Cavs- Jamaal Crawford

Clips - Wade, Joe Harris

Andrew @ 6/19/2015 1:10 PM
BTW, Dallas is not a valid destination. They amnestied him, so can't take him back in a trade.

Clippers are trying to win now....no way they give up Crawford, since the $5M savings doesn't help them.

Heat aren't giving Wade to Cleveland...come on.

jbeachboy @ 6/19/2015 1:16 PM
delly isnt good enough??
Nalod @ 6/19/2015 1:18 PM
Delly is awful. He had his moment. I like him. No thank you.

Calderon for Haywood + pick #24?

Hmm, interesting. I wish Calderon had been healthier and not played like shit this year but it's certainly worth a shot. I'd throwin literally any other player on the roster if Cleveland asked, except for our #4 of course, in order to get this done.
