Knicks · Porzingis "Injury" and Knicks Workout (page 1)

Took this from the Kaminsky thread, courtesy of wh4t, who posted it.

Classic fake injury shutdown, IMO.

Does this mean Jackson wants him and this is an excuse for Porzingis so he does not have to work out for Philly.

Givony indicated that Hinkie would not draft Porzingis without a physical, and that Porzingis does not want to play for Philly.

Anyone think there is more to this than him actually having an injury?

nyk4ever @ 6/23/2015 1:00 PM
gotta love these draft smoke-screens. i wonder if phil wants porzingis or if he has a trade lined up with someone else who wants him.
wargames @ 6/23/2015 1:06 PM
Phil also said Melo was there to watch the draft prospects work out though and Porzingis got a cramp

Almost too many variables to think about, to be honest.

Lots of injuries and illness surround Knicks workouts, given this info, and Russell's "illness" after he worked out with us.

I don't see how this can be staged because the fact is, there is no way we should be promising anyone anything in terms of picking them, outside of the big three if they fall.

Too convenient of an excuse, and the timing is too coincidental. He has not released a single comment about any workout, as far as I can recall. Why start now?

There is also this:

Seems to me that Jackson might not know what Philly will do, but does know that he will end up with either Russell or the Latvian being available at #4, and my sense is that the tweet above indicates that he is happy with taking either of them, or is trying to up his leverage with teams who want to move up.

Don't think he trades out if Russell is there, but there is a chance that he does with Porzingis, IMO.

nixluva @ 6/23/2015 1:33 PM
Oh I definitely think there's some games at play with all this recent injury stuff with players. It's just par for the course at this time. Teams are trying everything they can to impact the teams ahead of them. It's not hard to imagine that Phil could actually like KrisP at #4. He's got a ton of potential and already has all the skills you want to see. Right now he's a stretch 4 or big 3 but with shot blocking of a center.

Russell or KrisP are likely the top guys in Phil's mind at this point and one of them will be there so really there's no worries if that's the choice at #4. All the other choices are there if a great trade is offered.

Have you heard him mention anything on any player interview or workout we've conducted?

I also look at the secret Russell workout, and Russell's illness excuse for backing out of his Philly workout.

Just seems fishy to me.

This guy is going to end up as a more athletic version of Rik Smits. He'll be a 5 down the line and will be tough to deal with.

Are you happy with Russell, if he's the one who falls?

I know you love Hezonja, but I don't think Phil would ever take him unless we had two picks in the top 10, and even then I would doubt it.

Too much of a freelance player for him, I would expect.

I get stomach cramps when I just think about the knicks

I'm not sure he'll ever gain that much weight but he will eventually get bigger. He's got it all in terms of skills so there's no wait on him being able to actually play. He can do the stretch 4 and big 3 thing for now. You still get the shot blocking tho I don't know if he'll be able to rebound well early on at the NBA level. That's not the end of the world for now.

Moonangie @ 6/23/2015 1:47 PM
Zinger would be a solid pick at #4. I still prefer Russell (if he drops) or Mudiay, over Zinger. But won't be unhappy with any of those three. If we trade down, I'd need it to be for an insane deal (e.g., #'s 6&7 in the Denver/Sac thread).

I would be upset with ANY other pick at #4 (assuming OK4/Towns are gone).

knicks1248 @ 6/23/2015 2:03 PM
look how many bigs are drafted and cant play at all, and your taking these injuries lightly nix
NYKBocker @ 6/23/2015 2:24 PM
IF Big 3 are gone then I want Porzingis. It's all about swinging for the fences when picking this high.

Exactly, which is why I want Mudiay.

I don't care about his weight.....more weight more injuries. He needs to get stronger. Similar to how KG was and still skinny, but he's much stronger. Yes, adding muscle is gaining weight, but not a lot. He will get stronger, and he will be a beast....The only question is when?

crzymdups @ 6/23/2015 2:44 PM
I think if anything, this is Phil's way of trying to get Philly or someone to trade up to take Porzingis at #3 so he can nab D'Angelo Russell or Okafor. Or trying to entice teams to trade up to #4 to get Porzingis.

yeah ... all other GM's are really dumb and fall for this reverse psych sh1t

knicks1248 @ 6/23/2015 3:10 PM
How come phil doesn't make some kind of deal with the LAKERS(since philly is on that Bull sht)....If they swap picks, and the knicks Nab DR at 2, theres no way the 76ers will draft another big, and OK4 will be there for LA anyway..we can give the lakers calderon and the #4 for their number #2..

Phil said KrisP caught a cramp. That's not an injury. I don't know how Phil really feels about KrisP, but he said that he's looking for mature players who can come in and contribute. I don't know that he wants a super young player that needs years of nurturing. If he feels KrisP is too far away then he'll go with one of Winslow, WCS or Kaminsky IMO.
