Knicks · I Think Mudiay Might Have a Guarantee (page 1)

Solace @ 6/25/2015 10:58 AM
Last night he was on ESPN radio and he said he visited only the top four teams and that was it. I don't see why he would do that unless he has at least one guarantee from one of those teams. Kind of a spoiler I guess, but I don't see how he's going later than #4 if that is true. He might wind up being our pick after all. Thoughts?
Solace @ 6/25/2015 10:59 AM
Also, last night suddenly I was hearing that his workouts went really well. Maybe the bad workout stuff was a smokescreen.
Allanfan20 @ 6/25/2015 11:00 AM
Maybe Philly is taking him?
fishmike @ 6/25/2015 11:01 AM
I would be fine with this pick at 4. If he's who the Knicks love book it.

Im pretty much convinced the Knicks will phuck up any trade. However I think if they take the BPA they will be fine. Its when they think that things start going south

I think one of the Lakers, Philly or Knicks, yes. Not sure which. But considering we heard right away that he had a bad workout in LA and suddenly I am hearing the opposite about his workouts, I'm wondering if it's the Lakers.

I agree with not making a trade. Our draft record over the past 15 years is not too bad. Our trade record is atrocious. I don't trust this franchise with trades either.

MaTT4281 @ 6/25/2015 11:06 AM
Thoughts? We're 8 hours away from the draft and I'm believing we've promised our pick to Mudiay, Porzingis, and are silently targeting Herzonja, only to trade him for picks 6 and 7. I can't take it!

Mudiay's been my personal pick since the season ended, provided the top 3 go as expected. His shot needs to be worked on, but I think the LA video spooked too many people. His athleticism, size, passing and driving are all in his favor. He could very well end up being the best player to come out of this draft (a claim probably 5 or 6 other guys can make as well).

Hi Solace
Lets hope knicks make right move
But on Mudiay a talent skilled player, Lets hope the guarantee isn't on board for Knicks
only if the BIG Three Russell (be gone prior to #4), Okafor and J.Winslow is on board at 4th

I would not take neither Emmanuel nor Porzingis if players I cited is on board miraculously at #4th pick!

Why would the Lakers need the smokescreen though? They have the second pick and it's clear as all day light that Towns is the first pick. I don't see why the Knicks would give anybody a promise.

Maybe they're getting the Kings pick at #6 along with Cousins and giving up the #2 and Julius Randle? Just a thought.

i dont' get why, even if you get a gurantee, why would any of these kids and their agents trust it?
Moonangie @ 6/25/2015 11:13 AM
Mudiay at 4 works for me.

Yup. It doesn't strike me as a savvy business decision to cancel all workouts when you're a questionable foreign player, when you've been playing in China no less.

I don't know why he would do that either, but I think we should expect that Mudiay will play for one of the teams in the top 4 because otherwise it makes absolutely no sense.

this won't be the first time something like this has happened.

Maybe the agent has a guarantee from one of the teams right past 4- saying if he is there at 5,6,7 or 8 - that they would take him?

I would be fine if the Knicks decided they liked Mudiay.

I would more than fine if the Sixers decided they liked Mudiay.

Too many rumors, man. One had Denver acquiring #6 in a trade with Sac, only to package it in a trade up to 4. Still 7 and a half hours left.

IMO,
I really do not think Russell and Mudiay's potential are much different
It will similiar of how Deron Williams vs CP3 were constantly battling for the TITLE OF BEST PG when they were drafted and after for a couple of years
They both have different strenght and weaknesss's but they both have high ceilings and I do believe that both could be BUSTS and could develop to FRANCHISE talents as well

To me Russell has that arrogence and premedonna/drama I do not want as a ROOKIE, while Mudiay seems to have the willingness to want to improve and wants to create for others as a TRUE BIG PG
Shooting is a skill that Mudiay can learn, while his physical body/strength can not be taught, he needs to work on his quickness and speed and will take time but I think he will reach it if you allow him to make the mistakes and learn from it like Wall did
I do believe that Russell could be a bust if he goes in to a wrong situation, like if JR Smith is his mentor in NYC

Prior to "traditional PG's, Deron WIlliams was once cosidered a BIG PG that could score and facilitate prior to him hitting his 30's"

Till Physical beasts like Westbrook, Derrick Rose, John Wall,
While Mudiay could have the physical abilities to make him a DEFENSIVE TOP TIER DEFENDER that Westbrook has gotten away from despite his ability to be a lock down defender, though last year he was force to do so late in the season with injuries

Assuming the consesious TOP 3
If we stay at 4, I hope we acquire Mudiay or KP

What all these rooks must understand is, The NBA is a 82 long game season, and after that the playoffs is when it really counts and when the game changes with adjustments, effort, schemes
If lucky, by year 2-3, they will unfold their true talent if they WORK HARD to develop their skills and body, stay confidence, hungry

Steph Curry and Lebron James PUTS A LOT OF WORK in their craft, taking practice/training very seriously, and it pays off
It can NOT STOP, you have to want to improve on both strengths and weakness's, and even in weight room and films

Physical talent is great but if you add in HIGH IQ, WORK ETHIC, ability to communicate with others, it has a multiple affect/effect and if you get multiple talents like OKC did, it shows

Nick Collison *WORK ETHIC played a role*

Durant
Westbrook
Harden
Ibaka

Reggie Jackson
Jeff Green *after he left OKC, not being with those guys, that was the difference in his improvement in reaching his ceiling along with his setback with his heart surgery*

WaltLongmire @ 6/25/2015 11:36 AM
Would take Hezonja over him, hands down, if Phil is looking for a guard type player.

Jackson, unless it was a smokescreen, said we had our "lead guard." I even read a rumor that the Lakers might have asked him in a second time simply to go up against some second round prospects they were looking at to assess their value.

My issues with Mudiay:

Can he really be a consistent shooter?

If Phil wants to run the Triangle, and the Triangle is not a classic PG style offense- how do you take a guy who has a reputation as not being a good shooter? He is big, and can get to the hoop, but you wonder if he is Phil's type of guard.

Other things I have issues with:

He clearly went to a HS that was designed to minimize the academics and promote athletics- which is why it has since been shut down and involved in scandal. I taught, and I coached in HS- and when I hear this I really get suspicious. He seemed to be taking the easy way out in an attempt to showcase himself.

I would feel much differently about him if he had played with Brown, no doubt about it, but...

...He chose to play in an overseas league which is clearly inferior to the European leagues. At least Jennings tried to play in Europe. Jackson talked about the overseas games and the superiority of certain leages, and also talked about the maturity factor. Add to this the fact that the Chinese league seems to give players much more freedom.

Don't know what the circumstances were, and whether Mudiay tried to hook up with a European team, but if you look at the scoring for the two leagues you might get an idea of what kind of game is being played in China these days.
