Knicks · Knicks trying to acquire rights to Bjelica (euro player, MIN has rights) (page 1)

crzymdups @ 6/29/2015 4:30 PM
Nemanja Bjelica is ready to make the jump to the NBA, Minessota has his rights, but the New York Knicks are pursuing him and hope to get him via a sign and trade deal.

According to Eurohoops sources, the Euroleague MVP has already decided to continue his career in the NBA. He has to sign his new contract until the 10th of July, the date his opt out clause in the contract with Fenerbahce/ Ulker expires. Bjelica has been in contact for a long time with the Timberwolves, however now the Knicks entered the picture.

Bjelica is a unique case and his passing ability makes him a great fit for the triangle offense. That’s probably why the Knicks are really interested on him and they seem willing to offer him a better deal than the one he alreadt has on the table from Minessota. It remains to be seen what Minessota will decide, since the Timberwolves also want the Serbian Forward and Euroleague MVP of the season on their roster for next season. What’s also evident – for quite some time – is that Fenerbahce is losing him and the Turkish club is already searching for the player who will replace him.

I know nothing of this kid's game, but he looks like he has a little Kukoc to him:

It's crazy how many Euro players are out there that we haven't heard of.

yellowboy90 @ 6/29/2015 4:44 PM
His rebouning and scoring looks legit. He pretty much checks off every statistical category

Well, maybe Gaines Jr is running the show. Someone send him video of Ajinca asap.

Yeah, I don't know. He's in Europe - maybe he tells the Wolves he's never coming over unless they trade him? Maybe the Wolves would let him go for a second round pick? I really don't know.

I did a search for him on twitter. Nine days ago it was reported that he was going to sign a 3 year 12 million dollar deal with the Wolves. It was reported by Sportando. Not sure if it was accurate or if he is holding out for a bigger deal. I think Minny would need to make a move or two to bring him over.

was thinking the same. the wolves don't really have a whole hell of a lot of room for either - they already have a ton of big's as it is. maybe the threat of never playing for them gets it done. the kukoc comparison is spot on, bit of lamar odom there too. for anyone who says that phil isn't doing anything or is just collecting a paycheck, they could not be any more wrong, this looks like a great get.

sounds about right, especially since they plan to bring back KG. Would they be interested in a Calderon/Bennett swap if Bjelica is added. Or something like that?

Calderon would be a good backup PG and help mold Tyrus Jones/LaVine?

It makes since for them to trade him because by the time their core get good enough he will be 30 or older. The knicks have 3 2nd rounders and $3m in their asset collection not counting their 2018 1st and beyond.

Two 2nd rd picks plus cash could probably get it done.

Checked on realgm wolves board. They have a thread on him that is 38 pages long. One poster said that Flip didn't want him to come over until recently and might be trying to see what he can get. Almost all of the other posters seem to want him.

Peja without a POST GAME

Could we bring back Lampe as backup while we are at it, along with that BIG EURO PG that never came over....

If we get Jordan and these shooters to spread the floor out, it really could work better than players that are not familiar with the Triangle as Euro's are forced to play TEAM BALL and use screens both on and off the ball much more, with more player movement than American basketball, that uses physical abilities and less team work, with player movement with purpose

CA would need to bring back his mid range game especially that baseline Turn Around that he use to do much more in Denver, as these Euro's with our squad would allow great floor spacing

Wonder if could get Dieng/Shabazz in the process, even if it cost us a 1st round pick and the rest of the 2nd rounders we attained last season
I can surely see Calderon being successful with that type of roster

With D Jordan we would be a 3pt shooting and DEFENSIVE TEAM, with Monroe we could LOW POST OPTION and go inside out more with shooters to spread the floor...
Though if Jordan and Monroe both take SLIGHTLY less and we stretch Calderon and move Early, we could have both players, while still having the 6m MLE with Cole Aldrich/Acey's bird rights/early bird rights to go over cap vs under 3m LLE
If we can trade Calderon/Early, that would open up over 8m in salary, to be able to sign both at near MAX's..

Is this pure speculation or does this Euro want to come over to NYK instead of Twolves?

Though with the right trainers/development staff I can see Jordan learning a POST game if STAT learned it rather quickly with 0 post game when he went to Hakeem camp
He is just too strong, mobile, athletic, to be contained by MOST CENTERS 1v1, which shooters and some penetration would help...

DMO and Mike Muscula are 2 players that would fit in with that core as well, both still on rookie contracts, add in Westbrook in 2 seasons and I like our chances when Lebron is older...

The trend would be following how the league is evolving and going against Phil Jackson comments on 3pt shooting though

Lin could really do some damage with these shooters with his IQ, ability to penetrate/facilitate, on the 2nd unit
He made Novak, JJ, Fields, Bill Walker, and Tyson Chandler look like quality NBA OFFENSIVE players, so I could see why we could bring him back for 3m or so along with leverage on Shved, both of which would be our stronger penetrators/facilititors that have played in the NBA while Grant develops...

Doubt Dragic would be worth bidding for value but he would also love playing with that kind of lineup and for a Guard, control TEMPO, and shoots a HIGH %, while able to create good shots for the team...
If we do go this route with EURO's, Omri Cassipi had a career year last season too

Delfino could and Bellinili could also be sleepers off the bench that could be cheap as well
While Danny Green/Wesley Matthews provides 2 different styles of DEFENSE and team skills too

Maybe GS, along with Dantoni, and some advanced STATS are showing this is the way the league is heading, with MULTIPLE SHOOTERS on the floor being more efficient/effective than the old school basketball played...
Would have been interesting to see Lebron with Kevin Love/Irving though, though they likely would have WEAKER DEFENSE/REBOUNDING with less minutes for Tristan Thompson/MosGoV..

It would have allowed Lebron to have enough energy to try to dominate when the 4th quarter hit, each game, along with actual consistent play from Iman/JR Smith as the 4th/5th options on the floor
Though Delly would not have generated nearly as many Fan's..

callmened @ 6/29/2015 6:25 PM
impressive!!
Rookie @ 6/29/2015 6:28 PM
Could see Minny trying to move Pekovic's 12M per now that they've gotten younger and cheaper with Towns. Calderon's 21M+ over 3 yrs is a lot cheaper then Pek's 50M over 4. We are under the cap so we don't have to salary match.

Where'd you see the $6-7m number from? Just curious. Didn't see that.
