Knicks · Monroe to the Bucks as per Woj (page 7)

If Wojo and the guy who works for msg is saying Phil asked him to take less then that's what I'm going with

Monroe: "ok. Where do I sign?"

You know what--you're joking but that very well may have occurred. Lol

One thing I find funny here--Phil agrees to give Melo $124mm with all his flaws not to mention he's clearly not a Phil type of player--never was, then turns around now and tells us a younger, very productive Greg Monroe isn't worth a reduced max contract. And we had the money to pay Monroe too AND have money left over... Man do I have a huge problem with that!!

And not for anything--we didn't need Aaron Afflalo on an $8mm cap hit. I understand we got him on a deal and didn't overspend compared to some other signings out there but $8mm is still $8mm. My contention right from the beginning is that we didn't need to through a ton of money at the 2 spot. You got Alexey Shved who most likely will be brought back then I kept pointing out good cheap alternatives out there to replace Hardaway... Another weird element to this that just occurred to me -- why exactly were we asking Monroe to take less? I really wanna know why now.. What was the plan? Was it to sign Afflalo? We had enough money to get Monroe + Afflalo anyway, with around $5mm left over. The more I think about it--they had to have given Monroe a specific reason why they wanted him to take less---looks like the master plan was to team up Melo, his buddy Afflalo and Monroe with whoever else (Robin Lopez for what $5mm, when it's being reported he's looking for double that amount. I mean were they planning to lowball that dude too???? Lol To go along with Porzingis--a guy that got booed loudly on draft night and initially trashed by the team's best player in the papers the next morning. I like the Porzingis pick myself, but just pointing out how this all looks to other potential FAs from afar---I mean Melo wasn't even on board with our high lottery pick...Can't really blame Monroe for passing when I think about it. WTF is the plan here?? We come off like a circus act. This guy picked Milwaukee ahead of Melo and the Knicks after saying a couple of days ago that he wanted to going to a team that had a chance to win now..

This....I'm loving the idea of not overpaying guys and killing our cap....I like Monroe, but I would rather get a center that will help us more on the defensive end....

Im overjoyed Phil didnt cave. I wanted no part of Monroe. He is the classic attempt at a quick fix that would've ended badly. To me its simple, Monroe suhucks on D, he doesn't deserve the max. Go get Koufos or RLopez to man the middle with some grit. Give the Zinger more minutes. Whatever. We arent winning the chip next season, Monroe is not some missing piece to a title which is the only situation where he should get a max.

I was only half joking. I am sure that Kidd is sneaky enough to pull something like this off.

Monroes agent has said we offered the max, so can we quit with the posts saying we didn't? He chose the Bucks because he felt he would be the final piece for them and they were a better team, which they are.

You got a link? Supply the link--we're all hearing otherwise.

His agent also said it was about who was on the roster.

That would be Melo

He meant the Bucks roster was more talented, which it is

Both Hahn and Begley are saying that they heard Monroe was not offered the max from the Knicks.

Alan Hahn WORKS for MSG and he is saying the Knicks did not offer full max.

I think it is likely that Falk was trying to make it so: (A) Phil didn't look bad for missing on Monroe and (B) Monroe didn't look bad for taking the most money (though he clearly chose the better roster)

I'm on my cell phone - it's too cumbersome - look at the hoopshype.com social twitter, which compiles all media tweets

Begley, Herring, Hahn, Wojo, Isola all reporting that the Knicks did not offer max to Monroe, but guys here are willing to believe his agent. Ok.

So who would know more, the actual agent who was there or the media guy who heard it second hand?

They all heard the same second hand thing. The agent was actually there.

Who would have more of a reason to spin it so a team with cap room he could potentially place a client with didn't look bad? The agent has an agenda. The reporters don't. Why would the reporters lie here?

Or maybe the fact that they have MCW Middleton Freak Parker while we have Melo. Unless you think that if we had a better team then the Bucks that Monroe would still choose the Bucks strictly to avoid playing with Melo even though Melo was on the roster this whole time while we were one of his top interest.

Logic vs Agenda

The media also said he'd sign with us and it was a sure thing. They also reported Melo and Tim didn't get on and then that they are best friends. You don't have to have an agenda to be wrong.

I don't disagree. But it sounds like the Knicks tried to get cute in their presentation and it backfired.

I don't love Monroe one bit, so this doesn't bother me. But let's be real - if this many people are saying "that's weird, I heard the Knicks did not offer the max"... I feel like there is something to it. We have five different reporters saying Knicks didn't offer max. We have the agent and Berman saying he did.
