Unless knicks aren't confirming summer play on KP injury, reckon summer league play is MOST time anyone will see #4th pick
Not in NBA Fall 2015 regular season start. The Knicks aren't going to put a rookie on court with high minutes to take a
beating. However in NBA level play when a player such as KP is a project & we're talking post play KP is going
to get bang around quite a bit and unless you're able to develop some defense and/or rebounding (offensive)
your initiation into NBA level play is a rude awakening.
I don't know how many minutes or any play will justify being in gym bulking up
but I cannot see NYK fans seeing too much of this young man on the NBA court in 2015/2016 season.
Obvisious his skill is all offensive touted,
If you're going to play and learn NBA level comp you'd better rebound and improve it & also
better be able to learn to defend and bang around other players at those heights playing the 4 & 5 position spot.
KP is said to be a poor defender And also not good rebounder which will inhibit chances on floor playing time to develop.
Just going by the nba experts and folks whom seen him play at competitive europe play
This is NBA and I am sure he'll learn but I do not see him being too much of a contributor factor at all until his
other areas of game such as rebounding, banging in post offensively and defensively and defending come into his repitoure'.
He is much more than just a shooter. He scored a 96 on Draft Express.
From Draft Express:
Strenghts: It’s not easy to find a legit 7-footer with great length and high level athleticism ... If you consider how well he runs the floor and his skill level then you can understand why Porzingis is considered one of the most intriguing International players in recent years. His ability to put the ball on the floor in spot up situations is very underrated.
Porzingis has great instincts to run in transition, and often outhustles opposing bigs for easy dunks.
Defensively his size and wingspan make him a tough opponent to score over, he gives good rim protection, and he has good enough feet where he can show hard on pick and roll, or even switch and still create some problems for the ball handler ... Once he gets more physical he can easily plug the ball screen ... The bottom line is that Porzingis has every tool to make a really good contribution for whichever team that drafts him, and he can be an impact player for many years in the league ...
Strengths: As a legit 7 footer he has perfect height for the role, combined with long arms and big hands ... Despite the size he prefers to play as a small forward, showing amazing body control, coordination and ball handling skills ... Porzignis excels in transition situations, where he can use his speed, fluidity and athleticism to outrun defenders ... During the past season he has improved his off the ball game, exploiting cuts and backdoors to get the rim ... He’s a solid shooter, with range also from three point, showing a remarkable confidence and variety of solutions: step-back, pull-up jumper, catch and shoot are all part of his repertoire ... On the defensive side he’s really effective as a weak side defender, with his quickness and athleticism he can cover a lot of space in a few steps to alter or block shots ... Furthermore his lateral mobility makes him a solid P&R defender, a key skill for a big man, especially at NBA level ... His footwork also allows him to switch onto the guards forcing them to take difficult shots ... Born in August of 1995 making him one of the youngest players in the draft ...
Strength is going to be his problem but he is not weak, he just doesn't have bulk. It will take him some time to develop that and until then he is a 4. Not saying he will be KD but KD gets by on his athleticism and shot, I think KP can do a bit of that now and he will further it no doubt. He will have to.
Luckily the NBA game favors athleticism over bully ball these days, so I think KP is going to be fine. But for sure we will have to be patient.
I am curious how he does defensively against 4's (one on one, not weak side) using his length and athleticism. He might surprise us here. His quickness and length will cause problems, even with his thin build.
This is probably the most exciting Summer league I can remember. I'm actually more excited to see how Grant does as I realize KP needs a bit more time physically.
