Knicks · I've watched a lot of so so far imho we must feature kp in the post to mid range right away (page 1)
BRIGGS@ 7/5/2015 4:49 PM
He's played in a professional league he should be able to dominate inside right away either from the high post or at the rim. I don't think kp has the feel for the game like Kaminsky yet I think using him with his dominating length and size inside on BOTH ends where he shots 10 feet and in. We've got a good pg who will be able to set him up
mreinman@ 7/5/2015 4:52 PM
yes. we should give him Jason Smiths shot selection. good idea.

Why not? At least KP can put the ball on the floor for higher percentage shots.

KP should shoot from all over the court based on what the defense gives him. The only shot that he should avoid is long 2's.
franco12@ 7/5/2015 5:21 PM
when we dropped to four, I wanted to start a thread about what was the minimum contribution we had to get out of the pick, regardless of who it was.
I might have said we needed at least 12pts & 8 (boards/assists).
If he can go, KP should be getting anywhere from 20-30 minutes every game.
If not, then there is a failure - in terms of scouting or development.

I agree, he should take threes if the defense gives it to him, he should operate in the mid rang if that's what makes him more comfortable. Just because he's positioned in the areas of the court as Smith doesn't mean he has to settle for the same quality of shots.
nixluva@ 7/5/2015 5:28 PM
KP isn't going to be limited. He'll do the very same things that Jason and Bargs were doing. When he works to get open he'll do his thing from all over the floor. Drive, Shoot or Pass. It's not really necessary to try and keep him hemmed into some specific things. If he is near the basket and a small is on him he'll post up. KP pretty much knows what to do already. It's just applying his skills to this specific system of motion. He has to learn where the open spots are and the timing of the motion and passing. Once he gets the feel for it he should be able to thrive.

Has, it's too early to say where KP's numbers should be. 12 and 8 is close to what Anthony Davis did his rookie year. Dirk was like 8 and 3. The key thing is that we see improvement throughout the season.

right. lets stop with the ridiculous expectations

whatever you guys do - do not make him gain weight.
here's bargs in his first summer league - before he bulked up. look at his speed and fluidity there and compare that to now.

I don't think its ridiculous to expect a fourth pick to contribute, especially when you are looking at a team that last year produced only 17 wins. I think its reasonable to expect him to play at least 20 minutes a game - otherwise, he's not being developed or is maybe not that good.
Do we get 8 pts? 10? 12?
6 rebs? 3 Ast?
I don't think 8pts, 6 rebs & 2 ast is unreasonable, is it?

We run the triangle Briggs our positions and our offense are defined. We may feature some pick and pop with Kristaps but the bulk of what we do will be right out of the normal triangle sets Phil has been running for ages. Kristaps will get the ball in the deep post, mid-post, elbow and the wing off of weak side pick and roll action.
Don't need some special shit just run the offense and let his natural skill/talent flush out.

Our 21 Million player gets us 24 points 6.5 rebs and 3 assists, so yes it's completely unfair to expect a third of that production in PPG and the exact same production elsewhere from a guy making less than a fifth of his salary.

The Triangle basically assures we will do this.

How so? They ran it it throughout last year's Summer League, they ran it throughout the 2014-15 season for the Knicks and they ran it throughout the D League. The probability of our summer league team running the triangle is almost a guarantee.

Not sure he is a back to the basket big man at this point in his career. You figure they will give him some shots down low, but I would think they would do some of the pick and pops Calderon had success with paired with J.Smith.
Porzingis was a stretch 4 in Europe. Does not seem like a position we really utilize much in the Triangle. Might see some more pick and rolls with him, too. He can actually cut to the basket well... O'Quinn might hook him up with some of those high post passes of his.
Jackson and Fisher will put him into a position where he can utilize his ability- what that is...I don't know.
What we really need is to hire Jabbar and see if he has enough left in that body of his to teach Porzingis a sky hook.

Unless knicks aren't confirming summer play on KP injury, reckon summer league play is MOST time anyone will see #4th pick Not in NBA Fall 2015 regular season start. The Knicks aren't going to put a rookie on court with high minutes to take a beating.
However in NBA level play when a player such as KP is a project & we're talking post play KP is going to get bang around quite a bit and unless you're able to develop some defense and/or rebounding (offensive) your initiation into NBA level play is a rude awakening.
I don't know how many minutes or any play will justify being in gym bulking up but I cannot see NYK fans seeing too much of this young man on the NBA court in 2015/2016 season.
Obvisious his skill is all offensive touted, If you're going to play and learn NBA level comp you'd better rebound and improve it & also better be able to learn to defend and bang around other players at those heights playing the 4 & 5 position spot.
KP is said to be a poor defender And also not good rebounder which will inhibit chances on floor playing time to develop.
Just going by the nba experts and folks whom seen him play at competitive europe play
This is NBA and I am sure he'll learn but I do not see him being too much of a contributor factor at all until his other areas of game such as rebounding, banging in post offensively and defensively and defending come into his repitoure'.

KP has to learn and adjust to the more physical nature of the NBA just like any other rookie. Still it doesn't mean he's gonna be at risk of injury playing a similar role to that of Jason Smith and Bargs last year.
KP was already playing against men in a pro league. He's already experienced some banging with bigger players. The NBA will be a step above that, but not so dissimilar from what he experienced in the ACB. He's learned a little bit of how to play and not get too caught up fighting with bigger players but rather to work in the post by facing up rather than staying back to basket. He doesn't have an advantage against heavier players with his back turned but when he gets the ball and faces up he's the one with the advantage. He's got some things to learn, but I think he can do it based on his ACB performance.
