Fine with me. I like Lance Thomas! He doesn't uhhhhh offer much on offense, but he's also not going to ruin things on that end. I love his footwork and multi-positional range on defense, and I was often pleased last season with his degree of hustle and grit and energy and other baseball words. Lance Thomas is not at all exciting, but he works. He seems like a good guy to have around, and a suitable candidate for minutes off the bench. The end of it, ideally!
If Charania's number is correct, Thomas's new contract appears to be a cut above the veteran's minimum, which means the Knicks only have a million or two (plus the room exception) to hand out until they get down to those vet's min deals. Welcome back, Lance!
Two big questions now:
1. Who's next? Lou Amundson? Cole Aldrich? Alexey Shved!?!? (Langston Galloway are with the Knicks unless they get cut.)
2. Who wears number 42, Lance or Robin Lopez!?

There's really not a lot that is good out there that warrants more than a minimum that's within the range of the available space. Plus he knows the offense for the most part and adds some depth at SF.

i like phil but lets not act like all his moves have been great. Most of us like his offseason but there have been a couple justifiable head scratching moves. This and the williams deal in particular

RealGM has it listed that A 4 year vet minimum was listed at $1,015,421, tho it could be more now.

I thought LT played hard and actually did good job. Don't know what was expected of him by some, but he was better than I thought he'd be and he played hard on D. Glad to see him back.

Yeah, but he's a bum that spent a season in the offense that the knicks as a whole are still learning. Its only 1.6 mil on a 1 year deal so its not like he's being payed a lot for his familiarity with the system. However, that familiarity means in a worst case scenario he could sub and not hurt the offense if an injury happens (IE depth). That has value and if his agent said he wanted more than a minimum for that I wouldn't say his agent was crazy..... and looking at the results neither did Phil.
Maybe VCoug knows if the knicks still had his bid rights and went over the min with that. I just hope they could save the $3m+ they have and use it for trades. Maybe the saving grace is having Thomas salary higher helps the knicks match salaries in a trade.
That's the only things I could thing of why a guy of his talents should get over min money.

When he was playing regularly I thought he did fine.
End of the bench guy...solid citizen, and a guy who seemed to do well in the Triangle. He plays good D and actually showed a shot a times.
Does make some strange plays every now and then, but...he actually surprised me at times. Maybe he looked better to me because I wasn't expecting much, but he and Amundson earned a return ticket based on the kind of play and effort they gave the team last year.
He is also the type of guy who will go hard in practice, I expect, and he'll be a good influence on younger players.

Of course dude! Phil and every other GM are immune to making stupid decisions because they have a staff of professionals yet look at the moves we have accomplished over the past 15 years. Who am I to offer criticism? I'm just a presumed coach potato with nothing better to do.
