Knicks · Leadership 101: Why Isn't Melo in Las Vegas? (page 10)

misterearl wrote:Steveo718 - clumsy analogies aside, it is Melo who said he wanted a championship in New York.

Talking about it, and BEING about it are two different things.

Notice he said he wanted a championship, but didn't say "i will do everything possible to bring a championship to New York" ---word play.

Stevo718 wrote:The one thing I agree with is if your not gonna be a team leader and help out then STFU about who we drafted you have absolutely no right to open your f*cken mouth. You don't wanna help in that aspect then stop moaning and groaning and treat your job like a 9-5, go to work go home and then forget about work.

On the other hand, Melo don't have to do absolutely NOTHING except show up to the arena for practice, play in games and collect a fat check. No one FORCED us to pay him that much money. NO ONE can say what he is NOT doing is wrong. Its like opening a door for an old lady... its a nice gesture but no one can say you HAVE to open doors for senior citizens.

Another point--- Melo don't owe any of us a damn thing. Not a championship, nothing. You cant be mad at him if he places his own brand/business above your desire of the Knicks first championship in over 40 years. If you discovered you were a ping pong master but didnt have any passion for the game but got an offer to play it for a few million how many of you would turn it down? What if fans started started calling you out saying you could be better and that you dont practice enough? Youd probably tell them to shuttup and laugh all the way to the bank. If you don't like Melo don't support him and his brand but please dont sit here behind your computer and tell a grown ass man what he should be doing unless your paying his salary.

Melo is like the "8" in a group of girls that are all "10"'s that thinks he is a "10" as well.

That's not how society works, that's not how life is. When you hold a certain position, and demand a certain salary, you are given certain responsibilities. When you don't fulfill them, you are trashed for it, and possibly fired.

Say you run a business, with union labor. You hire a guy, pay him handsomely. He ends up being a lazy fuck who does the bare minimum to get by, but you can't fire him because his union would be on your ass. On top of that, you find out he doesn't give a shit about your business, he is all about himself, and even steals your clients, doing jobs for them on the side, directly, instead of going through you. What are you gonna tell yourself? That it's not his fault, it's yours, for giving him the job. That he doesn't owe you anything, because he didn't ask you to hire him, you did? You can't fault him for putting his bottom line above yours? C'mon, man.

As for your opening the door for seniors analogy, yeah, nobody is forcing you to do it, but guess what? If you let a door slam on an old grandma, you're an asshole.

But this guy you hired already had a past history of not putting in extra hours and being kinda lazy... but he did graduate from Princeton and you figured maybe with a fresh start back in his hometown he would change. You took the risk and you kinda knew what kinda guy you were hiring. You guessed wrong, but you probably won't be the last guy that will roll the dice trying to hire this guy cause everyone knows he has talent.

Its more like hiring a money manager for your millions and he loses you money and then you pull out your money and hire another guy... and unfortunately that is how society works.

And yeah not opening doors for elderly is pretty douchey.

melo and chris paul? gtfo.

Thanks for missing the point. take a look at what mr earl said and you will see the point if my post. Paul like Melo is MIA from summer league....why is that okay for Paul but not Melo? Its understood that Paul is better player and leader than Melo, but yet he has the same number of rings as Melo. If dk is paying attention, i just gave him a clue to my equation....

He just finished stealing back his starting center from another team who had all but gotten his signature on the dotted line. He deserves his vacation.

Prior to attending the meeting with Jordan he was being called one of the main reasons Jordan was leaving. Does Anthony need to fix any relationships with the summer league guys? And Paul still isn't attending the summer league.

Lead, Follow or Get out Of The Way of The Answer Man

Q. CrushALot - Does Anthony need to fix any relationships with the summer league guys?

A. He could tell Galloway to stop imitating his shot selection. Otherwise, just shake a few hands, give Kristaps, Robin (or is it Brook?), Aaron, Maurice, Derrick and Jerian his cel number and smile for the cameras.

Piece of cake.

Paul also was the reason why Jordan almost left the team. You really have no clue. Don't let the facts get in the way of another bash Melo thread

In regards to your first question, the answer is no. None of them are leaving because of him like Jordan was because of Paul. I am sure that the usual stuff that happens at training camp with new teammates will happen in training camp.

meloshouldgo @ 7/15/2015 9:56 AM
Actually Mr. Earl the answer to your first question is Melo never took the leadership 101 class. He did however take Chucking 105 (read one on five), and he scored 120 out of a possibke 100 in that class.
misterearl @ 7/19/2015 9:23 PM
Leadership 102

If Melo is indeed the face of the franchise, or at least the piece the Dolan sold every available asset for, it will be interesting to follow if the Knicks free agents and select alumni, get together for informal workouts in August or September. This is the month that the high end gyms in Houston, Los Angeles, Orlando and Atlanta are bubbling with pros looking to maintain, or gain, an edge before training camp starts.

There will be precious, limited time to get acquainted in October.

Who's gonna take the weight?

ChuckBuck @ 7/20/2015 9:11 AM
This should tell you all you need to know about Melo's "leadership":

When you sucker punch someone and backtrack for dear life instead of fighting the fair one...tells you all you need to know about a guy.

On whether he has his Bronze medal from his 2004 Olympics:

"Leadership" material from the start of his life....NOT!!!

dk7th @ 7/20/2015 9:19 AM
ugh i have never seen that video before only heard about it. that's the fastest i have ever seen anthiny backpedal though.
SwishAndDish13 @ 7/20/2015 9:47 AM
http://www.theplayerstribune.com/jerian-... Grant wrote this himself. Seems to think Melo passed this part of the core curriculum being discussed endlessly here.

LOL TKF, I remember that dude.

Went to war with him and many others over Melo related threads a few years ago.

Who would've thunk it that "the haters" were actually right all this time.

Hey, at least I'm man enough to admit I was wrong the first time around. You gotta give me that at least, jrodmc.

Yeah, and don't worry, Chuckie, what's left of us Homers will gladly let all you "men" back on the blue and orange bandwagon when we win the division again and go the ECF this season

Did he have to make an appearance in Vegas..........Of course not.

Should he have shown up? Yes/No.....................that it is up for debate...my opinion is that he should have.

Would it have been preferable/better for him to have showed up?...Not debatable, and I'll say it now- anyone who believes that it would not have been a positive thing for him to make an appearance is a fool with little understanding team sports.

Always remembered what ARodJeter did in the 2008 All Star game that went 15 innings. ARod left the stadium after the was taken out in the 5th inning and had a rendezvous with Madonna. Jeter, who had been taken out early, was in the dugout with Francona after the game ended taking everything in.

I've always hated the Yankees, but as a coach I've always used guys like Jeter and Duncan as examples of how to conduct yourself as a team leader.

So think about this...What would Jeter have done? Do you think he would made the appearance in the same situation (Which never would have gotten this far, of course.)?

I don't think anyone is comparing Melo to Jeter. If that is your benchmark you are not going to find many that live up to it. I do think that most of Melo's peers do not attend the summer league. I also don't think it is a big deal that he didn't go. I don't think there is anything that would be done at the summer leagues that isn't normally done at training camp.

Right, Melo still rehabbing, right? I'd rather him stick to his program and work out with the training camp invites and the rookies during the rest of the summer in West Chester when things get sorted.

It would have been nice for him to swing by and do a little dinner, not so sure how effective that would have been for a collection of guys that really won't make the team.

We all already know that Melo is an alpha dog for a team on offense but not much else, there is much room for him to distinguish himself on this team as a leader
