Thanks for missing the point. take a look at what mr earl said and you will see the point if my post. Paul like Melo is MIA from summer league....why is that okay for Paul but not Melo? Its understood that Paul is better player and leader than Melo, but yet he has the same number of rings as Melo. If dk is paying attention, i just gave him a clue to my equation....

He just finished stealing back his starting center from another team who had all but gotten his signature on the dotted line. He deserves his vacation.

Prior to attending the meeting with Jordan he was being called one of the main reasons Jordan was leaving. Does Anthony need to fix any relationships with the summer league guys? And Paul still isn't attending the summer league.

Did he have to make an appearance in Vegas..........Of course not.

Should he have shown up? Yes/No.....................that it is up for debate...my opinion is that he should have.

Would it have been preferable/better for him to have showed up?...Not debatable, and I'll say it now- anyone who believes that it would not have been a positive thing for him to make an appearance is a fool with little understanding team sports.

Always remembered what ARodJeter did in the 2008 All Star game that went 15 innings. ARod left the stadium after the was taken out in the 5th inning and had a rendezvous with Madonna. Jeter, who had been taken out early, was in the dugout with Francona after the game ended taking everything in.

I've always hated the Yankees, but as a coach I've always used guys like Jeter and Duncan as examples of how to conduct yourself as a team leader.

So think about this...What would Jeter have done? Do you think he would made the appearance in the same situation (Which never would have gotten this far, of course.)?

I don't think anyone is comparing Melo to Jeter. If that is your benchmark you are not going to find many that live up to it. I do think that most of Melo's peers do not attend the summer league. I also don't think it is a big deal that he didn't go. I don't think there is anything that would be done at the summer leagues that isn't normally done at training camp.

Right, Melo still rehabbing, right? I'd rather him stick to his program and work out with the training camp invites and the rookies during the rest of the summer in West Chester when things get sorted.

It would have been nice for him to swing by and do a little dinner, not so sure how effective that would have been for a collection of guys that really won't make the team.

We all already know that Melo is an alpha dog for a team on offense but not much else, there is much room for him to distinguish himself on this team as a leader

He sees her every day besides for road games. Yes, she is hot as hell but he has all Summer to go to the Bahamas. He should have been there.

RonRon @ 7/20/2015 1:01 PM
CA is rehabbing, besides, that that why we signed both Lance Thomas and Lou Amundson
They should show their presence and provide the leadership/work ethic early on these "rooks" and FA's TRYING to make the team

CA structured his deal to be able to sign more talents with the "discount" he gave us
Without that discount, both Lance Thomas and Lou Amundson are unlikely to get the 3m they got from us
So basically both Lou Amundson and Lance Thomas should Thank CA and show up and provide the leadership, work ethic/Triangle experience, and veteran exposure to mold these guys

If I was CA, I would be very pissed that Phil Jackson wanted to get a discount in order to sign 2 scrubs like them

there's the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. they have every right to do whatever they want... except that doesn't make them right for doing so.

melo has a long history of having a tin ear, poor timing, and saying the wrong things that require damage control....

as i said he has every right to do what he is doing, which is prioritizing his time with his wife and family. under the circumstances it would have been a great gesture to take 72hrs away.

then again the question is not "what is he doing wrong" but "what is he not doing that would be the right thing to do"

If Carmelo is so much of a team cancer, then the young Knicks are better off that he didn't make an appearance and jade them. :)
The end.

If Carmelo were really serious about winning, he'd have been in the gym 24/7 rehabbing his leg, working out, practicing his passing out of the double team, and would have had the courtesy to be best buds with a whole bunch of young 'uns, most of whom won't make the team nor sniff too many minutes.

He's doing zero wrong. He couldn't schedule his vaca so he could watch his possibly new franchise impacting teammate in his first Knicks action? My thoughts are that while Melo is not a scum or bad person for this, it is careless.

Exhibit A why Melo is a friggin' tool in the Nickeledeon Video.

You guys are defending him saying "OH he's not obligated" "Oh why should he spend time with the rooks when he's vacationing with family" "Oh he's rehabbing, focus on getting better for training camp"

ALL EXCUSES.

If he's doing all that, how's he have time to hang with his Douche bros?

If he's working hard rehabbing his knee, shouldn't he not run through a maze of kids and potentially wreck said knee again?

Ok ok excuse all that, but isn't LA like an hour flight away from Las Vegas?

Could've easily gave himself some good press just showing up next to Phil Jax and Kris/Jerian.

Even that immature bastard Boogie Cousins spoke with George Karl behind the scenes at summer league:

Melo has all the opportunities and avenues to clear the air, make amends, be the good teammate...at least act the part.

Never does, and never will...

I guess no one notice that all these players are only making appearances at things that are in the town they have something else going on. Melo/Lala has a home in LA and he works out in LA like many other NBA players.

Some players that work out in Las Vegas showed up. Some players that attended award shows in Vegas showed up. I doubt that one player showed up because it was SL.

Durant showed up in Orlando SL for the right reasons.

“These are my two off days, so I just tried to get out and see some basketball and check out the guys,” Durant explained to a small group of skeptical reporters, all wondering why in the world one of the best players on the planet would spend his downtime in central Florida watching summer league basketball.

So if you’re wondering why Kevin Durant, high volume scorer, arguably the world’s best player, is spending his downtime watching summer league basketball in central Florida, start there.

He wants to be a better person, a better son, a better brother, a better teammate.

This visit is just one step on his journey.

“I think I know my teammates but getting to know them deeper,” Durant explained. “Just knowing how to handle different situations and knowing how to talk to guys and not looking at just the bad and try to focus on the good of everything from everybody on our team. Just getting to know every single guy.

“I don’t think I did a great job of that so far since I’ve been in the league. I thought I did. But looking at myself, I can be a better teammate, a better friend to my teammates. And I learned that. That’s why I look at this last year as a blessing in disguise. I learned a lot about myself and about my team that I can help. I know it’s going to be ups and downs. I know I’m going to have my good and bad days. But I just try to limit the bad ones and try to be the best teammate and person I can be.”

After you read that from Durant, kinda sullies your perception of Melo right?

^^^^Was it just last offseason that all the hookah pictures came out when Durant was in Spain?
misterearl @ 7/20/2015 3:47 PM
How Long?

Attend Las Vegas press conference to introduce all 4 free agents signings - 90 minutes

Shake hands with first rounders Porzingis and Grant in locker room - 15 minutes

Informal chat with Phil Jackson at halftime of first SL game - Five minutes

An encouraging word to free agent Maurice NDour - Two Minutes

Wave at Lou Amundson in the stands - 20 seconds

Earned respect from potential running buddies before training camp - Timeless

WaltLongmire is right.

And? What does Durant smoking a hookah have to do with leading by voice or leading by example.

Melo doesn't tick any of those boxes.

No not at all because I need more than one player attending SL then telling reporters about why he is attending SL. Why not just say I am just enjoying my vacation. Why go into detail. Is he trying to get credit? Is he doing another behind the scenes journey and want to show the world he is a nice guy?

Wow, it really is easy to make up this kind of stuff up. Let's see what else I can make up.

Well I really do not trust a guy like Durant because he is a fake. On one hand he is all about health and signed a deal with a healthy nutrition company or something and the next thing I know I see he is doing commercials about candy flavored Slushes at Sonic's a fast food restaurant. How can you trust a guy that is clearly just selling himself to the highest bidder regardless of the contradictions.

So I do not trust him when he says he is trying to support his teammates. Why not fly out his other teammates and go to Epcot or Animal Kindom. Knowing Durant he would go to Hollywood Studios because he is a good actor.
