It is completely shameful and insulting that affalo hadn't even heard from the guy ... The same guy who said he'd help us recruit ... Total fraud

I am not going to get all worked over this. Yeah, it would be better if he were there, but at the same time, he is a vet and should not be expected to attend summer league. As long as he shows up to training camp ready to work, then I am not going to complain.

The reason people don't wanna come here is because we suck and our owner is a train wreck and no one wants to play with our "star" player who only wants to shoot as much as he can and makes the players around him worse.

The fact that NY fans and media know enough to call out Melo for being the selfish doiche that he is is not a drawback in itself.

I am actually a Carmelo supporter, but his actions after signing that big contract are really disturbing to me. I don't blame him for the contract, but Phil is a fool for thinking this dude is deserving of all of that money.

I am curious. What actions are you referring to?

Playing injured to enhance his brand; publicly voicing displeasure for the draft pick and trade of THJ; failing to contact the young players to welcome them to the team; etc

He's not a leader. He never will be. We knew this a while ago though.

Heck, I thought he would have been involved in recruiting him...since they played together in the past.

This I find more surprising than how he reacted to the draft.

Strange.

My guess is none of the guys we brought in were in his black book

Supposedly he and Afflalo used to be tight and Afflalo would train with him during the summers in LA and hang out with his family. I actually thought the Knicks bringing in Afflalo was to appease Melo somewhat... but apparently Melo hasn't reached out yet, which seems crazy to me.

Melo isn't gonna make many fans for his brand here if he doesn't get with the program soon. I hope he watched what happened to Deron Williams. Life can come at you pretty fast, etc.

yellowboy90 @ 7/12/2015 4:41 PM
People do realize that a lot of nba players train in Vegas. O'Quinn 1st got the knees on his way to C.J. Watson house in Vegas that he was being traded. Kyle was going to train with Watson.

Why has Noah been in Gainesville and LA instead of showing Portis the ropes? I mean he is the bonefide leader and heart of the Bulls yet his GM has barely seen him in the off season.

misterearl @ 7/12/2015 4:43 PM
If it generates conversation, there is no such thing as an unnecessary thread. If it is unecessary, why respond?

wargames wrote:Come on guys this is such a unnecessary thread.

First we have no idea what Melo's plans are for the Summer and even if we did its his time to do with as he pleases.

Also we don't know if he plans to go to a later game.

As the face of the franchise/ highest paid (by far) player on the roster, and the reason the owner gave up Timofey Mozgov, you damn well better be at McCarran Airport, waiting at baggage claim, to welcome the new faces acquired to help you win.

If you have a sense if humor, you wear a limo drive suit (hold the nameplate sign as a great photo op) and rent a stretch town car. That act alone, endears you to your teammates.

Sheesh, it ain't that hard.

misterearl @ 7/12/2015 4:44 PM
are you not entertained?

Exactly

WaltLongmire wrote:You know I never thought of this... but he is missing an opportunity for some bonding.

Would have been a nice touch. I know O'Quinn and Williams were there...were Lopez and Aflalo?

Good opportunity for some positive things to happen. Melo could have taken the SL team out to a big dinner, or something like this. Would have shown some class, and yes, it would have been a great leadership moment for him and some positive publicity to counter the negatives that came out around the draft.

The Knicks hosted all 4 free agents at a media event in Las Vegas to formally announce their signing. All of them. Melo, without question, should have been there.

Noah has nothing to prove on the leadership front. plus his team isnt rudderless. his team is good. there;s no comparison.

its not as much as Melo had to do all these things like show up in Vegas or contact the new players, but the guy just keeps whiffing big time on opportunity after opportunity to be the leader hes supposed to be.
