Who cares what they are doing? They are not costing us more than a third of our cap space -they have ZERO relevance to the Knicks. And some of them have delivered actual results not fancy popularity contest bullshit and individual stats obtained at the cost of team success.

What is with people getting bent out of shape when Melo gets called out? He gets called out because He is NOT a leader, he IS selfish and he can't share limelight with others. And he will NEVER win a NBA championship as the primary focal point of this or any other team. Is the truth so hard to swallow that this needs to be wrapped in politically correct BS? People are free to like him all they want, but to act like others are making stuff up about him and being negative when they are calling it the way they see is ridiculously immature IMO.

very fair points

To be honest...the points are totally unfair and irrelevant to the topic. WTF does this rant have to do with summer league? Looking at dudes username, its near impossible to imagine he can post anything unbiased about Melo. Im pretty sure its a cut and paste post.

to be honest im tired of hearing about melo. Id rather focus on porzingis/grant. Also guys Like o'quinn and lopez who will help

So Irish, why don't you..

How difficult is that?

Papabear Says

You know You guys can always find something to knock Melo on. I guess he is also a bad guy because he dosen't show up to take a sh$t in the Knicks locker room so the players can smell that Melo was hear. Now that shows leader sh$t.

Wait what? Why on earth would I want to post something "unbiased" about Melo? This is a message board people post their opinions. You do the exact same thing (post opinions-which by definition are biased) and so does everyone else. IMO opinion Melo is not adding value to the Knicks, never has and never will. The OP asked why hasn't Melo gone to Vegas and all anyone has to say is, he is not required to go to Vegas or anywhere else. That's it.

Once you start throwing in names like LeBron and Duncan then people will ask why on earth is Melo being compared to those people? They are multiple time champions who do not have the "selfishness" and "lack of leadership" virtues associated with their reputation around the NBA. Attempting to calibrate Melo's leadership by comparing to these guys is bogus. And if a Damien Lillard type proves to be as selfish as Melo is, exactly what does that do to make Melo a better leader?

Would say Lebron is considered as one of the best current day leaders in the NBA and I think he was umm....sitting right next to him. Why would you show up to try to establish a leadership role with guys , most on SL squad, that are not going to be part of the team?

the knicks are 171-195 with carmelo anthony as a knickerbocker. that's not even including his atrocious playoff performances, where the knicks are 7-11 with two playoffs in 4 seasons. all told 178-206.

he is the common thread for knick failure at this point, and for 24 million per year you would think he'd show up and at least be a good employee, a team player, a mentor. nobody else-- not a soul since february 21 2011-- is part of the knicks since he kind of forced his way here-- they're all gone.

how about calling this selfish and wealthy douchebag to the carpet instead of defending him with idiotic comparisons to players who have actually achieved something?

I thought I already answered this once, let's try again. Asking why someone is or isn't a good leader does not automatically require you to ask the same question about that person's peers. Melo has to do more than his peers because his reputation is worse than his peers. This ain't that complicated.

So Melo's peers don't have to attend the summer league but Melo does. Not getting it. Seems like a vendetta. Nothing you have posted changes that.

his so-called peers have appeared in the playoffs the last two seasons, his so-called peers do not make 24 million per year, his so-called peers have not had a 54-107 record over the last two seasons.

his so-called peers have all passed. only melo and bryant and wade and bosh and westbrook have failed. only trouble with this group of guys is that they too have had greater success than melo in their careers... far greater.

what i am showing you is that there is a definite cognitive dissonance when it comes to melo, and at this point it's pretty creepy. maybe only a zen master can negotiate it.

No. All anyone has asked in response to your rant was what other stars are there in a leadership capacity. If Melo is being judged by his attendance at the summer league why aren't his peers. If attendance at summer league games s a criteria for nba leaders then they should be there.

LOL yeah ok, because you said so, Got it. We good.

Who cares what they are doing? They are not costing us more than a third of our cap space -they have ZERO relevance to the Knicks. And some of them have delivered actual results not fancy popularity contest bullshit and individual stats obtained at the cost of team success.

the knicks are 171-195 with carmelo anthony as a knickerbocker. that's not even including his atrocious playoff performances, where the knicks are 7-11 with two playoffs in 4 seasons. all told 178-206.

he is the common thread for knick failure at this point, and for 24 million per year you would think he'd show up and at least be a good employee, a team player, a mentor. nobody else-- not a soul since february 21 2011-- is part of the knicks since he kind of forced his way here-- they're all gone.

how about calling this selfish and wealthy douchebag to the carpet instead of defending him with idiotic comparisons to players who have actually achieved something?

Interesting. In regards to leadership 101, Melo has not attended the summer league. How about his peers. In keeping on topic with the thread what are their grades?

his so-called peers have appeared in the playoffs the last two seasons, his so-called peers do not make 24 million per year, his so-called peers have not had a 54-107 record over the last two seasons.

his so-called peers have all passed. only melo and bryant and wade and bosh and westbrook have failed. only trouble with this group of guys is that they too have had greater success than melo in their careers... far greater.

what i am showing you is that there is a definite cognitive dissonance when it comes to melo, and at this point it's pretty creepy. maybe only a zen master can negotiate it.

Did those peers attend the summer league to impart their leadership and that was the variable for their teams greater success?

Where Is Our Elder Statesman?

Holfresh - The main reason why Melo should be in Las Vegas is because the Knicks won 17 games.

Seventeen.

The false equivalency with other players is irrelevant because they were ALL in the playoffs. Our franchise is in desperate need of leadership on the court. What better place to make a gesture of unity and teamwork, than to show up on day one, just to shake some hands, and change the conversation from "me" to "us."?

This is not a bash Melo thread. This is a thread that suggests doing the right thing is the right thing to do. We have a long road to reach mediocrity. Someone must make the first move. Some player needs to set the example. Who will it be?

We have a roster packed with new faces. Another difference. How do we get acquainted?

101. Just show up Melo. Take everyone to lunch and talk it over, without the coaches. Don't talk about wanting to win a championship. Be about it. Even in the summer.

It ain't that deep.

Would say Lebron is considered as one of the best current day leaders in the NBA and I think he was umm....sitting right next to him. Why would you show up to try to establish a leadership role with guys , most on SL squad, that are not going to be part of the team?

Again I have already responded to this - underlined above. I have no idea what the comment about sitting right next to him is about? Who was sitting next to what?

They are on vacation together. Therefore the reference. Not a leader based on what? Your biased views? Your experience as a team mate? A guy sitting at home in his one bedroom apt. In Queens is calling out an athlete who has climbed to the height of his sport. Ahh the beauty of being a fan. Gotta love it. However, All your jealous rants still don't take away from the fact the premise of calling any player out for not attending SL is pure stupidity fuled by hate. I am sure your putting in extra time on your days off from Subway just to prove your leadership skills.

Other then Kobe, all the other cats on that list are from a winning program. Kobe gets a pass, because he has rings. After the debacle that took place the last two seasons, If Carmelo is truly aspired to win and compete for a championship one day, he has to recognize the importance of these small gestures. Watch how Lebron is constantly analyzing the stat sheet during games. Leaders lead from the front.

I have to disagree. If this was a thread about not recruiting free agents like Parsons and others did I get it. This is a thread calling out a 12 yr vet for not attending the summer leagues. Titling a thread leadership 101 and then calling out a 12year vet for not attending summer league is abash Melo thread. You are right. It isn't that deep. A bash Melo thread is a bash Melo thread. If I was teaching a bash Melo 101 course I would use this as my example.
