I remember seeing the Star/Bust potential being high for him......
Played 33 Mins yesterday 8pts,6rebs,5ast 3 TO
He's not the game changer ppl expected him to be...atleast not yet
The game seems too fast for him
Still like the 4th pick of the draft

People worried about his athletic ability, Grant has looked better
yea he's been awful and Im a big fan of his... long time between now and the reg season. Some guys struggle with the lack of structure in the SL games. Time will tell.. if he was our guy I wouldnt be too worried.

IF you erased the names on the stat sheet, you could get definitely confuse who went #2 and who went #19
I think the guy has to get faster and cut down on the TO's, clearly. The 2nd thing he can do, the first...
In his defense, Stephen Curry did really crappy in the (first) summer league. We all know how that turned out. (Though Stephen is a much better athlete and has incredible ball control.)
An interesting thing about Russell, is that he was able to get his shot off quickly, in part, because he releases it on the way up. (And he has a super quick release.) Those two things
allowed him to always get his shot off. But now he is around super athletes everywhere. This might get ugly for him if he can't adjust.

is he? I thought Russell's athletic tests were eye-popping

I read that Curry really shocked people at the combine (as he was thought to be not such a good athlete prior). And that Russell is... athletically challenged. Someone correct me if I'm wrong as it is not first hand knowledge, but I've seen it mentioned time and time again.

I think Russell's combine athletic tests were pretty impressive from what i remember them saying.
What is even worse for him is that you have him working next to Clarkson (a second round pick, no less) in the SL, a guy who has put up nice numbers in the SL in the same offense. (except for our game with them)

Gotta call you out on this.

He looks like a 12-year-old dominating everyone around him. Bascially, nothing has changed.
Curry was pretty awesome from the get-go. Forced himself into the NBA starting lineup with the similarly undersized Monta Ellis once the season began. The only thing that has slowed him down were the recurring ankle sprains... until he had it surgically repaired.

Having two young guards at the same time usually doesn't work because both of them want to get theirs. And the coach usually has to make a choice as to which one will be the lead dog. Assuming Kobe comes back healthy, one of these guys needs to come off the bench.
I think with Russell you're going to have growing pains for a couple years.
Being paired with uber-chucker Jordan Clarkson won't do this kid any good.
If by year 3 he still doesn't adjust to the speed and physicality of the game, then that high bust potential % bestowed upon him early will be true.
@ chuckbuck, thanks for the chart, thats exactly what i was referring to.

I googled and couldn't find any for him - he might not have been tested - I think the top players all skip this at this time.
Russell will figure it out. Watched him the other night and he was making some nice passes. Very smart young man, once he gets his confidence back, look out.

my thought... he's not going to be easily demoralized. He knows he can play
Lakers are kicking themselves right about now.
I don't think they have buyer's remorse. Russell is 19 and will get MUCH better. He has mad playmaking and shooting skills. He needs time to develop and tune to the NBA speed/athleticism. I am confident he will. I still prefer our pick, and if we didn't take Zinger I'd have been stoked with Mudiay, who I think will also be great. Shooting can be fixed, athleticism not so much.
If he's the primary ball handler than he'll figure out the best tempo to suit his game. If he's off the ball than that wont be the case. I doubt he'll be a star or a bust but he's not our worry . Happy with our selection and liking what I see of KP.

No current star pg in the nba, pick that high, has ever look that bad in summer league. He definitely looks like a late 1st rnndr.
Don't get me wrong, he has skills, he just looks like he's playing in the park on w 4th. from I saw, he passes come too late or too soon, some questionable shots, and he penetrates into traffic, unlike grant who see's the floor much better
