Knicks · Do you believe that Phil and Melo are at odds? (page 1)

ChuckBuck @ 7/20/2015 5:06 PM
Yes, there's tension. Phil's played head games with his best players since his Chicago days in the press or even straight to their face sometimes.

It's how Melo deals with it is the question. Is he going to be a baby or is he going to nut up and help with the rebuild?

Best case is he nuts up, for the betterment of his Knicks tenure, or upping his value for a contender needing a final piece either at the trade deadline or next offseason.

Uptown @ 7/20/2015 5:07 PM
There was an article I read recently that stated Mills is the main guy that deals with agents and players....It revealed that Melo would be in Mills office talking about potential draft picks and FA's. It also stated that Phil prefers to stay away from the players as much as he can to avoid stepping on Fish's toe, also, many times Phil walk right pass players at the Westchester facility without saying a word....

So, I believe its overblown a bit...I also feel like this topic is overblown and has been run into the ground a bit

mreinman @ 7/20/2015 5:08 PM
Melo has never caved to someone who was trying to better his game. I think that there is very little chance that he caves now.

Its going to be a theatrical season

I actually think that its very UNDER blown at it is much bigger than being reported.

Exactly. He never caved to Karl, to D'Antoni...Woodson basically had 1 play, give the ball to Melo and GTFO the way.

Jax, though not a coach, still has his fingerprints all over this team, either through scheme or philosophy.

2 immovable objects, one slightly pudgier. It'll be fun this year!

based on? This is common for players not to talk to the team President. Ask Kobe. everyone isn't Lebron or Durant. I know Noah isn't a top 5 player but the Bulls president said he hasn't really seen him since the season was over. Noah went back to g'ville and was in LA.

did Kobe not have a big rift with Phil? If it was up to him, he would have been traded 50 times.

I am not talking about kobe and Phil. I am talking about Kobe and West/kupcheck, the relationship between player and President/GM.

I mean people over blow everything. After the draft it was did you see how phil wasn't exited about KP...

It's NY everything is over the top.

Phil isn't here to baby sit the roster. He's here to direct and plan the course for the franchise. Phil has guys like Mills, Fish and the coaching staff who are more involved on a daily basis. Now if there's something that really needs to be said or if Phil wants to know something from the player directly he will meet with them but he's not micro managing things. Phil isn't the Head Coach so the daily interaction just isn't there. All of this is just the Media trying to gin up something where there isn't much to talk about.

I haven't seen anything from either person. Phil didn't like him not having surgery sooner is not a big deal to me.

It just seems weird how almost everything contradicts itself when it comes to Melo and people.

Shump and Melo don't get along and he wants him gone yet they talk during the playoffs

Tyson dislikes melo but wants him on the Mavs.

Melo can't stand Hardaway but now that he is traded THjr was like his adopted son. He took THjr in after his father gave him another harsh scolding.

Yeah i read that same article. I believe Melo was somewhat upset with the draft when we drafted KP and traded Timmy for Grant and i believe he was somewhat upset with us not getting a big name in free agency but i also think it's been way overblown by our fantastic (sarcasm) new york media to just how upset he was and is. I think Melo can see that we brought in some solid players and that KP and Grant are good draft picks and in two years those two will be a huge help to melo in getting the Knicks closer to a championship. I think at first he was upset but after some time when he gave it some thought that he's smart enough to realize that what Phil has done is for the betterment (is that a word?) of the team.

I don't know what is in Phil mind. He once said Hardaway was 6'8 and supposedly thought that Lance Thomas was a good shooter. Was he unhappy with Melo play sometimes, Yes, but does he think he is insubordinate, actively creating a bad culture and not listening to Fisher, I doubt it.

Also, you say Phil hates stupid play but you also think his offense creates stupid play so how can you infer what Phil might think is stupid? lol.

I think the triangle is outdated and perhaps a bit stupid for todays game where GM's are becoming really smart and hiring really smart guys.

Phil does not believe it is stupid and believe that whoever does not run the triangle is stupid.

Actually Phil does a lot of things like that for a reason. He's not a stupid man. He's one of those guys that is always playing mind games with people. It's annoying IMO but that's the kind of person Phil is. Phil often wants to keep people on their toes. Pat Riley isn't that much different. You'd be surprised how many people in leadership positions in sports are like that. Tex Winter used to push Phil's buttons on the bench during games. It's something that would tick him off but he also liked it.
