So much for Melo not using his black book..
mreinman @ 8/12/2015 7:51 PM
I am tickled pink that we have KP over him.

Aldridge at the max would have made me puke and left me absolutely nothing to root for. I want to develop our own stud.

I knew he didn't want to play center. I didn't know he was actually considering coming to ny. Stuff in the Post also makes it sound like the Knicks had a chance.

I had no clue we had a shot at Aldridge...Well if this doesn't confirm we have clowns running our front office, I don't what else it takes...

Popovich must be a tool for recruiting Aldridge..

I've always been Melo neutral with the Knicks. The interesting dynamic however is that the more I read your posts on this board, the less I like Melo. Just can't really say why, I think I subconsciously connect your extreme mission to constantly praise Melo to your extreme mission to post anything that puts down the Knicks roster decisions....such as on draft night when you bashed KP over and over again.

I could care less about your feelings about Melo or anyone else for that matter..I'm not here to sell Melo as a brand, it's not my goal..But what on earth does this have to do with Melo???

RedmenBaller @ 8/12/2015 8:46 PM
It will be proven the biggest ego on the team, by far, is
Phil Jackson. Not the first to say it, not the last. Years of
Post Shaq years in LA thinking it was his coaching that won Championships.

I don't believe Melo said that. Is there video of him saying this?? If not then it isn't true.

holfresh @ 8/12/2015 8:58 PM
The things is, if you got a legitimate shot at Aldrige and/or is thinking about going after Durant the following year, don't you draft a wing player??
WaltLongmire @ 8/12/2015 9:01 PM
Kind of makes the case for Phil's belief that the draft should be conducted after the FA period.

Are there any reasons why this should not be how they are ordered?

this would be a better order of things for sure.

LAS VEGAS - If the Knicks had any hope of signing LaMarcus Aldridge as a free agent – and he said they did after a recruitment from Carmelo Anthony – it was erased by their commitment to Kristaps Porzingis.

Aldridge, among 34 players at Team USA camp at UNLV this week, detailed Tuesday to the Daily News why he canceled his sitdown with Phil Jackson this summer even though he said: “I was excited to meet with them.”

“They were saying they wanted me to be more of a center to let their guy develop and I just wasn’t looking to be that,” Aldridge said. “So I was looking to play power forward, and they weren’t really interested.”

By ‘their guy,’ Aldridge was referring to fourth overall pick Porzingis, the 7-foot-3, 19-year-old Latvian slotted for time at power forward. Aldridge, who has played power forward for most of his career, would eat up the minutes at that position and perhaps hinder Porzingis’ development.

“If they’re going to tell me that I have to play center and I don’t want to play center, then of course it’s mutual after that. But before that I was excited to meet with them. I was interested,” Aldridge said. “But they wanted to have their draft pick play and I get it.”

Considering Aldridge signed with the Spurs, it’s fair to ask whether he actually considered the Knicks coming off a 17-win season. Apparently he was interested – even to the point of recruiting other players to join him.

“Melo and I talked a little bit over text and we have mutual friends that passed messages along. I was interested,” Aldridge said. “I talked to other guys to see if they were interested in going there too. I was interested but when they say they want me to play a position that I don’t want to play, I get it.”

The Knicks failed to land any of the top names in free agency, using their cap space on Robin Lopez, Derrick Williams, Arron Afflalo and Kyle O’Quinn. Anthony gave the moves a thumbs up on Tuesday after hints from Clyde Frazier and friend/former teammate Kenyon Martin that the Knicks star is unhappy with the direction of the organization.

“Honestly, I thought we did a great job as far as putting the pieces we needed to put together," Anthony said at the UNLV practice facility. “We didn’t get DeAndre Jordan, LaMarcus, (Greg) Monroe, but Lopez is a great addition. Afflalo I played with a long time (in Denver). (Kyle) O’Quinn is a great pickup, guys will like him as a big. Derrick Williams, we’ll get him right. He seemed focused. And then our rookies — I had (Porzingis) last week with me working out at my gym. We’re trying to start this thing off right.”
