Knicks · Porzingis, Grant and others playing 5 on 5 at Carmelo's Gym (page 1)

Porzingis said he’s played five-on-five with no-longer rehabbing Carmelo Anthony at Anthony’s new gym in Manhattan. The games have also included Knicks’ Jose Calderon, Langston Galloway, Jerian Grant, Thanasis Antetokounmpo and area college players.

I remember those days when I Could work out hard and was able to put on so much muscle in a short period of time. Good for KP that he's taken this so seriously. Gotta love his work ethic!

Kristaps Porzingis attended the night session of the U.S. Open Sunday and looked noticeably broader than he did during the Las Vegas summer league.
The Post reported Monday the 7-foot-3 Porzingis has put on 11 pounds since returning from Latvia to train with the Knicks staff in late July. The Knicks drafted Porzingis fourth overall in last spring’s NBA draft.

“It’s the upper body,’’ Porzingis told The Post. “Guys can’t push me around that easy, and I still got time to get a little stronger. I can’t wait for training camp.’’
Porzingis confirmed he’s put on “five kilos’’ since late July — equivalent to 11 pounds. “I’m working out twice a day, lifting hard, trying to eat as much as possible to gain weight, getting my sleep, doing the right things to gain weight. I’m getting stronger and I’m feeling stronger playing in five-on-five pickup. Definitely feeling stronger.’’

The Knicks open training camp in late September at their Tarrytown facility, according to a source. Last fall they trained at West Point and it began a 17-win season.

KP showing that athletic ability.

Still doesn't negate the fact that CA didn't bring his pom poms to Vegas.

Friggin' Melo...always forgetting his pom poms.

Yep. I bet if you started a thread about that it would go for at least 13 pages.

In the end this new era of Melo, RoLo, KP, Jerian etc is already lifting the spirits. I find the energy seems higher among all the players. It reminds me of an even better energy from the 54 win team. This time the team is much more forward looking. These guys have more invested in this team. A whole bunch of new contracts and some of them for several years. Hopefully that will create a much better level of dedication to the team.

You guys are deceiving yourselves if you don't think Anthony took another look at things after the post-draft and SL criticisms, and it had little to do with what we little folk were writing around here.

Anthony is savvy enough to know that his "brand" took a hit, and he's made a great, and I think successful, effort to change the way people perceive him, but to think that the reported stories were invented by the media, which many of you seem to believe, is a sign of self-deceptive revisionism.

Accept, and enjoy, the fact that Anthony has been showing us some leadership in recent weeks, but folks shouldn't deny the things he has, or has not, done in the past because they want to see him in an untarnished light. The guy is flawed, but he has been doing the right thing recently.

Revel in the present...but don't deny the past.

Next step for him is to show some changes on the court- if that happens, you will see an entirely different attitude from folks like myself.

Hopefully he takes that next step.

IMO All that matters is what this team does from here on. Melo has his new teammates and he's been mentoring them in a great way this summer. As for the rumors and drama I could care less. His teammates are happy with him and his support this summer. I'm predicting some relevant development from Melo as a player and leader from here on. Doesn't mean he has to become Lebron as a player. He'll still be Melo but I think he'll be a positive influence on his teammates as he's already been showing.
Nalod @ 9/9/2015 7:09 AM
You guys are making all kind of assumptions. All it means is they are playing basketball.
If Melo was "Livid" as reported by SAS then he changed his tune so what?

Melo in Vegas is some how the litmus test he failed? How? Show support by creating a media event?

RicanHavok @ 9/9/2015 3:12 PM
How long before that gym belongs to Zinger?
yellowboy90 @ 9/9/2015 3:38 PM
This stuff happen last year, players went to PR & some players came to Melo gym. I think it has more to do with younger players having less family commitments. I imagine that vets want to use all their free time to be with their family considering how busy and long the NBA season is.

I thought the post draft and summer league stuff was B.S. and the draft stuff was never substantiated. I also don't think he is conducting himself that differently it is just a new set of teammates. I think there is a lot of assumptions about brand etc. in relation to Melo's actions. I think the guy is getting ready for the season. I think he was on vacation during the summer league with his family. If you want to criticize him doing things for the money call him out for the all star game because it sounds like he got a bonus from his sneaker company or something. Everything else is just speculation.

All I care about is that from what we've read and seen, Melo is doing positive things and not detrimental things with his teammates this summer. We're fast approaching the new season and all the players have been having some nice positive experiences together. It's not like they can win games in the summer so all we can ask is that they're preparing for the season and building chemistry.

yeah i am profoundly grateful that melo hasn't found a way to foul the nest like he has in past summers..

The absence of an undisciplined player like JR will greatly benefit Carmelo

Not just Melo!!! Just not having the typical JR nonsense should be a breath of fresh air. I personally can't stand guys that are always doing foolish things when everyone is trying to get work done. JR is that clown in the group that never seems to understand the seriousness of the situation. If you don't have a true leader he can just run amuck and Melo isn't a leader like that. He's at least showing more leadership this year than I can remember. With a lot of young guys that need him to be a leader this is a good sign.

In truth Phil has done a great job of adding guys that are serious about dedicating themselves to doing the hard work. This roster is full of guys that are known to be hard workers and they are all reinforcing that worth ethic. It's the one thing that I feel will allow this team to play much better than the sum of it's parts.

Even then he was a jerk and not dependable when we needed him most. He's just too much of a wild card and too streaky. You can't trust him and I'm glad he's gone. SO much talent waisted. He's a dude that could've been so much more if he was focused.
