Knicks · What I been feeling pretty much since we drafted Kristaps Porzingis (page 6)
If you had the opportunity to trade Melo for a pick in the teens and some solid role players or exorbitant cap room and free of an albatross contract for a chance at the Durantula, would you do it? NTC doesn't factor in.
You're lying if you say no.

My genuine answer is maybe. No reason not to wait until the deadline to see what's what.

It'll be a season long question is why.
It'll ramp up in Jan-Feb for sure.

No, it won't be. YOUR hypothetical is NTC not factored in, it "won't happen until later in the season if at all." So the question needn't be answered yes or not until "later in the season if at all," meaning not now. Especially not meaning every day now.
Do you want to change the question you asked?

thats an assumption not a fact. I think melo like everyone else wants to win. He ain't winning here.
Everyone doesn't just want to win.
Gasol stayed in Memphis because he likes living in and playing for Memphis. LOTS of prime professional athletes have stayed or gone to a destination NOT because it gave them the best chance to win.
Melo signed in NY 16 months ago when it was perfectly obvious Chicago and Houston were better "win" options.
His actions suggest he just wants to be in NY.
Gasol has been winning in Memphis. Who else?

Nope. We'll revisit in a couple months, when the "trade Melo" talks heat up again.
For now, I'll root for KP and the Knicks, and hope Melo doesn't have another bad game. (5 out of 7 bad games so far).
ChuckBuck wrote:You guys honestly think Melo would gracefully hand over the reins to KP?Seemed to work for Amare and Lin!
of course he will ... just as Kobe is handing off the keys to the LA kids.

Do you think Miami was a better place for Bosh to win than Houston? If he thought so, man was he wrong.

Get buckets or die trying. ![]()
Wonder if Kobe is going to kill Russells career before it even gets started, the same way MJ did to Kwame Brown.

Unless it's Melo doing the talking, any "talks" will always be ice cold.

he was winning enough to not have enough of a reason to leave. They are a perennial playoff team. Karl Malone was not going to leave Utah for the same reason (though not completely apples to apples).
Leaving is not easy and as soon as you go to another team, you are not a lifer. Its hard to be a lifer if your team is not winning.
Melo is already not a lifer since he was not drafted by NY so to me its a no brainer and IMHO inevitable.
Barkley left Philly because they stunk and once he jumped, it was no biggie to jump again and continue to chase in Houston.

2014-15 doesn't count? They were well out of postseason position the day he got hurt.

If you believe players value being lifers, isn't it possible players value where they live?
People flock to live in NYC because they dream of living in NYC.
Maybe that holds true for Melo? His actions suggest it be a consideration.

because he also has to play with Sasha and Jose and that is def grounds for getting the hell outa here

You are making an argument for him staying and maybe he will but I am just making an argument based on precedent.
again I ask you, name the player who stayed that was similar to his situation.

Get some role players and picks to complement the Latvian Legend. Build around Porzingis, damit!Stephen A is an entertaining phucktard.
This is where both you and Stephen A are wrong, you do not need to pick one or the other. There is no definitive "either build around Melo, or build around KP" that has to be done right away. Obviously KP is the future of the team, no doubt about it, but both you and ESPN, and Stephen A think in extremes. It doesn't have to be far left or far right. You build around KP, while keeping Melo as part of the equation to remain as competitive as possible while KP develops at a steady rate. You do not throw KP even more in the fire, starting him does enough, and fortunately he is mentally tough enough to handle his current role. But to increase that role asap is a huge mistake. We DO NOT have a draft pick this offseason, we WILL NOT yield a high return for Melo at this stage, so sit back and allow KP to develop while Melo scores his 20+ ppg, wins us some games, because again, there is no advantage to losing, it does not help us this offseason. When KP is ready for prime time, the Knicks will pass the torch to him and Melo will either be phased out and traded to a contender, or continue in a supporting role as a secondary scorer. It's really that simple. But you insisting this team cannot be Porzingis' team WHEN he is ready for that because Melo is here is very foolish on your part. It is clear you will never quite understand this, but there is zero advantage to trading Melo as long as he continues to buy in and play his part. You trade Melo sooner rather than later while he still retains some value. You will not get better value down the road, especially draft picks. If you or others can't see the value in picks
Quantify the value of "picks"? A "pick" could be anywhere from 1 to 60, with represents many tiers of wildly varying values.
You trade him the instant someone dials 9 to dial out on the landline....What part of "no-trade clause" do you struggle with?
If they're even talking about trading Melo, then a "no-trade clause" can be waived. What part of that do you struggle with? Basically all Fisher has to do is bench Melo, Melo complains to Jax, Jax honors his request.
Understand?
I don't think it is that simple. He also has a trade kicker. So, in addition to matching his salary, you need to find a team that can match the salary AND absorb the kicker without capping out. So, while it may work in video games to trade Melo, it really doesn't work here. He's our guy. Maybe focus the energy on stretch Calderon threads. It's a better use of time.

Okay, how about Carmelo Anthony 16 months ago?
Oh right, he did that just to get more money. There's always a catch.
Since you're involving precedent, can you name a guy who engineered a trade to a big market (that happened to be the market he was born), signed again with that team as a free agent despite there being poor odds of making the postseason right away and better options, asked for and got a full no trade clause, and then later asked for a trade away from that team because he hadn't won a championship, and received it to a contender of his choice?
