No, it won't be. YOUR hypothetical is NTC not factored in, it "won't happen until later in the season if at all." So the question needn't be answered yes or not until "later in the season if at all," meaning not now. Especially not meaning every day now.

he was winning enough to not have enough of a reason to leave. They are a perennial playoff team. Karl Malone was not going to leave Utah for the same reason (though not completely apples to apples).

Leaving is not easy and as soon as you go to another team, you are not a lifer. Its hard to be a lifer if your team is not winning.

Melo is already not a lifer since he was not drafted by NY so to me its a no brainer and IMHO inevitable.

Barkley left Philly because they stunk and once he jumped, it was no biggie to jump again and continue to chase in Houston.

If they're even talking about trading Melo, then a "no-trade clause" can be waived. What part of that do you struggle with? Basically all Fisher has to do is bench Melo, Melo complains to Jax, Jax honors his request.

I don't think it is that simple. He also has a trade kicker. So, in addition to matching his salary, you need to find a team that can match the salary AND absorb the kicker without capping out. So, while it may work in video games to trade Melo, it really doesn't work here. He's our guy. Maybe focus the energy on stretch Calderon threads. It's a better use of time.

Since you're involving precedent, can you name a guy who engineered a trade to a big market (that happened to be the market he was born), signed again with that team as a free agent despite there being poor odds of making the postseason right away and better options, asked for and got a full no trade clause, and then later asked for a trade away from that team because he hadn't won a championship, and received it to a contender of his choice?
