Knicks · Knicks almost traded #4 for #9 to take Kaminsky (page 2)

There was also the rumor that the Celtics would trade a bunch of picks to Charlotte for #9, where they would then take Winslow...No?

None of us know what will become of Kaminsky in the NBA, by the way. He was a slow developer in college...there might be a transition period for him in the NBA, too.

You can't have a different perspective for your rooks but not another team's. We believe that KP will be this or Grant that, even though they have not yet shown us everything we think they will show us in the future.

Just don't think we should dismiss any rookie at this point in the season, even though I wanted Phil to take KP.

Funny thing is that I liked Kaminsky, and thought we might have taken him because Phil was feeling pressure to draft a more "NBA ready player." Clearly this was not the case, and our 19 year old was the more NBA ready player, or so it seems right now.

I would have only been disappointed if we made a serious reach, or traded down so we didn't have to reach. You never trade down if you are a bad team. Bad teams need to give themselves the best possible chance of acquiring a future star, and trading down decreases those chances. Not worth the extra role player or future draft pick, or whatever extra compensation you can acquire. You want to add as much top-tier talent as you can. The exception being if you are already a good team with foundation players, and most teams drafting in the high lottery are not that, unless they acquired the pick in a previous trade. I liked Kaminsky, but only if we somehow managed to get him in addition to our 4th pick.

Agree 100% and said it at the time when Hahn was getting moist with the idea of trading down and drafting Stein. At least he didn't feel the same about Kaminsky
