How?
It's all good to talk about all these guys but how do you get them here. If Tony Wroten cleats waivers all you have to do is sign him to a minimum deal.

exactly. lol. wroten has to clear waivers from other teams who get first dibs
are we in win-now or are we building something?

I think signing a 22 year old would be building something.

I think Phil is waiting for 10 day contracts before he signs someone but I think Wroten is a talent worth exploring and his becoming available for nothing is a surprise.
I like Wroten because he's a young guard that still has plenty of upside. For our particular style of play his strengths fit right into a key aspect of the system. In the Triangle there are more Cuts off hand offs than PnR. You need guards who can take the ball, attack the rim and finish or draw the foul. Simple passes are pretty much all that you get in the Triangle. There are only a few difficult passes you will see in this offense, so you don't really need a great passer. However, you MUST have guards that will attack in the flow of this offense. This is one of the issue we have with Jose. He neither attacks or shoots when given the opportunity and when he pushes the ball he isn't looking to score on the unsettled defense as we need.
Wrote may be a weak shooter and passer but he should be capable enough to be more than functional in this system with work. Also he's so strong at driving to the basket and pushing the ball up court looking for early offense. Just adding him to the mix along with our other quicker young players should have a positive impact.

I agree. Also, he is a really young guy. He is younger than both Early and Grant. He would be the second youngest player on the team. He adds a needed dimension and has had some success as an nba player already. I don't see a downside to signing him to a league mini deal and having him fill the open roster spot. Is there another guy that is a better fit?

is he healthy?
He was on a minutes restriction but that has been modified. I know he wasn't playing back to backs but I believe he started the game before he was waived. He didn't look that good against the Knicks recently.

Says who?
he's up there in steals per min. A highlight is a highlight but the dude had some big time defense plays in the video I posted. You just don't make those type of plays if you are a bad defender.

He just came back from injury. Is he supposed to come back dropping 20 pts a game and playing 36 mins? Kyrie had been playing bad but I'm sure you will give him time to show he's healed.
I don't want to keep talking him up because we are talking about a rotation/marginal starter with potential to be a full time starter at pg. Right now he's dangling. We can't let this kid dangle.
We are trying to build something here. The Knicks are very close to being a finished product. I mentioned trading for Brandon Jennings. Some want to wait to throw the bank at Conley like he's a perennial all star. Others want to waste 2nd round picks on their favorite unproven rookie.
Wroten is a free agent... at least I hope he clears waivers.
Wroten has been in the league for a few years now, and really hasnt improved in his game at all.. Yes, he can get to the rim, lots of players can. Gallo and Grant can get to the rim. i just dont see the potential with a player who just cant shoot at all, turns the ball over quite a bit, is only effective WITH the ball, and doesnt seem to care about working on his off hand. His defense is not good either even with the steals. Players who can only go one direction can easily be neutralized in game. besides, we dont run an offense to suit him and that is not gonna change.
He's not better than Grant, more like a scaled down version. If anything thats the player that needs to be coached up.

I love Grant, but I don't think he puts up the numbers Wroten put up last year on the Philly squad.
If we were to sign him, I assume we're not going more than the rest of the year - so we lose what, exactly?

You are trying your best to make Wroten sound like Toure Murry.
You can't use his high turnovers and then disregard his high steals.
he hasn't improved his game yet he's improved his starts every year in the league.
We run an offense that rewards cutters. His bread and butter is getting to the basket. How does he not fit?
He only has one hand? I posted a 9 minute video of him using both hands....
you can't lie enough to make your point stick.
