Knicks · They told us KP was 3 years away (page 1)

teamsport72 @ 12/29/2015 5:28 PM
They told us KP was 3years away from contributing. Turns out, Fisher is 3 or more years away from becoming a coach.

Which makes me think this is not so much about building another dynasty for PJax, as about safely collecting his 60M. He hired a 200% loyal coach who will go first if things turn real bad, and also who will never cross Melo because he is is still a player in his mind, and just doesn't have the status Melo has.

Does not look good at all, definitely not good for KP. KP needs Pops or someone of that caliber.

Nalod @ 12/29/2015 5:41 PM
What you want is Pop. Can't have him.

So who do you want?

Isn't it usually " well Jax had Jordan an pippen"!!!!! What came first, the egg or the chicken?"

Meaning, did phil bring out the best in them with is Zen and Triangle?
Do great players make better coach's? They do in hindsight.

KP is no MVP star yet. Maybe if the knicks played together for more than 30 games we might be able to see if this all works. "Does not look good at all", really?
You can't see lots of things.

9 coach's in 15 years. Name the 16th that you really think is great and available.

crzymdups @ 12/29/2015 5:43 PM
It's about proving the Triangle works. That's what it has always been about in terms of what Phil wants to prove in New York imho.

I think he thought Fisher would be better. I also think he thought last year's team would compete for the eighth seed and they'd be able to add a piece or two in FA and be a top four team this season.

I think Phil has overestimated the Triangle and maybe Fisher as a coach. But mainly I think this is about Phil needing to prove that all those rings were him and the Triangle and not just Michael, Scottie, Kobe, Shaq and Pau.

teamsport72 @ 12/29/2015 5:44 PM
What is Triangle anyway? Is it a set of instinctive moves for people who cannot remember plays?
StarksEwing1 @ 12/29/2015 5:46 PM
I was never a fan of the triangle. It worked because jordan, kobe, and shaq were involved who could make any system work in their prime. I still feel fisher needed to at least learn as assistant for a few years first. Not saying he would have been a good coach either way but it may have helped him
crzymdups @ 12/29/2015 5:50 PM
I think the Triangle is more the issue with the team than Fisher. Fisher has made some mistakes with the rotation, but overall I think he's been okay.

The issue is with roster construction and how we play. That's all Phil.

The Triangle is all well and good, but it helps if you have Kobe or Jordan to say "ok eff the Triangle, I'm closing out this game."

I HATE this kind of take on the Triangle. for one thing it totally dismisses that fact that the teams were pretty efficient over the years running the triangle and that's not because they had Kobe or MJ break the offense and make something happen. Also they actually RAN PLAYS to close out many of their games which people seem to completely forget. They weren't really freelancing but perhaps people just completely forgot about those game winning plays.

You either have an efficient offense or you don't. Having one really great player does NOT make an entire offense efficient. That's not how it works. If the Triangle was a drag on efficiency and pace then it would've shown during the years Phil was in LA. I think they only slowed down based on the make up of the roster and couldn't sustain a faster pace. In 2008-09 and 2007-08 the Lakers were running a good pace and highly efficient offense.

It was Wednesday, under the sign of Libra. The US president was Lyndon B. Johnson (Democratic). In that special week of September people in US were listening to Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison. In UK You Really Got Me by The Kinks was in the top 5 hits. A Woman Is a Woman, directed by Jean-Luc Godard, was one of the most viewed movies released in 1964 while The Spy Who Came In From The Cold by John le Carré was one of the best selling books.

The problem is this team is full of plan B options.

Fisher....plan B
Rolo......plan B

The entire team is a plan B. I'm sure Phil wasn't intended to ship out the entire team mid season....

After Joey's show is canceled, his wife and friends attempt to cheer him up but do a terrible job. After three week Joey starts to get depressed but than he receives a very welcome phone call from CBS.

Some how they stick to plan A on most game nights, and never have plan B

Now this is the tale of the castaways,
they're here for a long, long time.
They'll have to make the best of things,
it's an uphill climb.
The first mate and his skipper too,
will do their very best,
to make the others comfortable,
in their tropic island nest.
No phones, no lights, no motor cars,
not a single luxury;
like Robinson Crusoe,
it's primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friends,
you're sure to get a smile,
from seven stranded Castaways,
here on Gilligan's Isle.

nyknickzingis @ 12/29/2015 7:09 PM
The Triangle and the offense NY runs is GREAT for Porzingis. Phil knows the talent he wants in his system. There's no question about that. Get a star #1 player who can handle the ball in S/R as well and Porzingis will be lethal. The Knicks lack of fortune is that both their top 3 guys on O are all scorers/shooters in Melo/KP/Afflalo. They can't run S/R with one another. If you take for instance Phil's team in LA with Kobe/Pau, imagine if Melo could run S/R with Porzingis the way a prime Kobe would. That's what we need now. A star player or ballhandler who can run S/R on top of what we already do. Factor that Porzingis should get a little better with time with his shot, I think this team can have a bright future so long as they can add that ballhandling top 3 player with what they already have.
