Knicks · Cleanthony Early shot during a hold up in Queens (page 4)

I went when it was originally in Long Island City, Queens. It was a dump then, and it's an even bigger dumpster fire in Maspeth of all places. Every second you spend there, makes you feel like you're swimming in raw sewage. Nastiest girls you'll ever find, and the security is non-existent.

Cleanthony shouldn't have went or been there. At all.

Well he was- alcohol impairs your judgement. He didn't deserve to get robbed and shot in the knee for making a bad decision. Do you absolve the people who actually robbed and shot him of any blame? Did he make them do that by going to the wrong kind of place?

Bad people in bad neighborhoods are going to do bad things to innocent people 11 times out of 10 at 4 in the morning. Would you send your child, your friend, your brother or sister to get impaired in an unsafe environment when shit goes down?

I feel like I'm talking to naive people with no life experiences here.

I dont believe anyone here thinks that Early made a genius move last night. What Early is going through right now, the possibility that his career might be over before it really began, outweighs to some posters here (including myself) what Early should or shouldnt have done last night.

People who commit crimes are the ones to blame and not the victims. It's really not right to blame a guy for living his life and then being attacked by thugs who really could've done this crime at any point in time and at a lot of different places. Not just "bad neighborhoods"!!! People get robbed and home invasions happen in "good neighborhoods" too.

I agree. He didn't get into a fight and he wasn't driving. He was a victim of a crime.

You two clearly have not been outside of your basements in awhile.

If you ever went to Cityscapes before, you'd be like "Yup, Ima get robbed outside for my chains and gold caps right there on the corner as soon as I step in an Uber cab"

That may be the case but it's still not Early's fault that he got robbed and shot. It's NEVER the victims fault. Also as I said technically robbers can be anywhere and target any area of a city so you really are making a mistake if you think there's a SAFER place or club you can go to. These kind of crimes happen even in the best neighborhoods.

c'mon man! You don't get this city.

you may not be a numbers guy but the %'s of crimes in really sleazy shytty areas are 1000 that of a good neighborhood.

It is not his fault for getting shot. It is his fault for putting himself into such an unsafe environment.

I can almost guarantee you, he would not get robbed and shot outside the Hustler, Penthouse, Sapphire, Flashdancers, or New York Dolls gentlemen's club. I can vouch for that.

That said, no guarantees for Private Eyes, VIP, or Cabaret. You won't get robbed or shot outside, but you may get robbed of your dignity and pride inside! Talent severely lacking there, like the Knicks in 2014-2015.

Question: Do you think Early was out too early?
SupremeCommander @ 12/30/2015 4:02 PM
I thought we dumped JR Smith. WTF is going on? These guys are acting like damned fools

No professional athlete should be hailing UBER. A care service is mandatory for any high earner.

No professional athlete should be out past midnight. You have a job.

If needed, bring the party to the crib. ID checked at the door with secret service level people inside and posted in the hallway.

If you must have it, stash your jewelry in a safe deposit box. Wear a Swatch.

Get your rest.

LMAO

Every NBA player should wear bullet proof knee pads.....

i am puzzled by this event.

what sort of chick would go to a strip club with a dude? aren't strip clubs for dudes who want to get away from their women?

what sort of professional ballplayer during the playing season needs to be out until 4:30 in the morning? again, i don't get it. it's reckless behavior, and disrespectful of your employer.

he may well have burned a bridge with the knicks....

NumberTwoPencil @ 12/30/2015 4:33 PM
Yeah, Early was out too early. I find it puzzling that Williams and Early were partying hard in the middle of the season. It's not like the Knicks are winning or either of those guys have stable careers. I assumed that with JR gone, the team was focused on basketball. I assumed wrong. I don't care much if the guys on the Knicks have low Erdős numbers or can write sonnets, and we've certainly put up with a lot of jerks over the years, but one reason I've watched as many Golden State games as Knicks games since the Isaiah era is this: Why should I care about the Knicks if it's obvious that the Knicks don't care about basketball? I dunno about you guys but if I party all night and sleep all day, I can't perform at my best. Golden State is fun to watch because their whole team clearly cares about basketball. I wasn't crazy about Mark Jackson's focus on Jesus but at least Jesus seems to like basketball. If Harrison Barnes never drinks and works out all the time, and Curry finds time to do gun control ads, well, okay, sure, do that stuff . . . it ain't hurting the team and you are less likely to, oh, get shot in the knee. I feel bad for Early and, hey, shit happens, but partying all night during the season is dumb. I'd rather watch a losing team that is clearly trying than watch a team that, ahem, shoots itself in the foot. Early seemed like he _might_ end up a pretty good bench player. I was pulling for Williams to get his act together and earn at least part of his salary. But . . . if Phil announced he was dumping both players tomorrow, I'd be okay with that.

(I should know this but . . . were Toure Murry and Early teammates at Wichita State? It's unclear to me if they overlapped, seems like they should have.)

not for nothing, but do you remember being 24? Now imagine that on about $800K or $5M salary.

These guys were definitely out late, not sure if that's the same as drinking your ass off, etc. Their clocks are also different than ours, their jobs (after games) tend to end at around midnight. 10pm to me and you is 4am to them. No excuses as a professional athlete but the landscape is different.

Yea, I think they played 1 season together. Shockers!

Again. Someone here gets it. We're all pulling for the kid's health and not saying he asked to get robbed and shot.

That all said, I'm sure Phil and company aren't happy with the kid's decision making, knowing he himself is a fringe NBA player and could be cut at the drop of pigeon turd. You have to make basketball your priority in life if that's who you want to be. You have to be a professional first and foremost. All the other stuff(riches and stability, girls, endorsements, etc) comes if you take care of your business.

Luckily it's not a career ender, and hopefully he learns from this experience....use YELP, it's your friend!

martin - players must understand these are dangerous times. They are targets. Early is 6 feet 8 inches. How fast did it take a criminal to make him, and get on the phone to collect his gang of thugs?

New York is not a television show. It is not Kansas. It is a big, funky, rambunctious and dangerous city.

Hire a driver. Do not allow random skanks past the doorman. Put away the oversized jewelry. Never travel alone. If you must party, party in a location that has a Michelin rating.

This is not about blaming the victim. There are crazy people out there who will do anything, including snatching gold chains off Stephon Marbury while sitting in his car with the window open. Remember? And Stephon is from Coney Island.

The final instructions from a boxing referee are applicable here:

"protect yourself at all times."

The streets ain't no joke.

Vmart @ 12/30/2015 5:27 PM
Hope the kid recovers. With that said I do not feel safe in this city and I blame the city government for this. You should feel safe no matter where the hell you are no matter what time of day or night. I don't know about you guys but gang violence is increasing, you hear disturbing news about babies in the back seat being shot by stray bullets.

The city is becoming shitty again.
