San Antonio best defense in the league. Smartest team and coach in the league. They would've defended against the KP lob this time. Trust me. A JV high school team would've known to keep the 7'3 KP away from the basket. Chances are Melo would've wound up with the ball anyway and with the Spurs setting up their D they would've forced another 30ft heave

but that's just it-- you can't keep an agile 7'3" athlete away from the basket WITHOUT FOULING HIM

blkexec @ 1/8/2016 11:03 PM
I was better off not seeing that live.....I wish I had left early in the 4th.

I would've appreciated this lost a lot more.

But when you have a chance to make a real statement and win a game, thats what ticks me off.

I don't know if Melo gets a pass on that play. He's making max money and what he did is something Grant could've done. And you know what, if Grant did that same pass, I think Jose would've made the shot.....You know why? When Grant has the ball, everybody is waiting for the pass so they can shoot.

When Melo has the ball, everybody is looking at the rim to see if it's going in.

Wow....This was a typical Good Bad game. Good for the team....Bad for the fans!

right i thought we had a 20 second timeout left?

TIMEOUT COACH...THIS ISN'T THE LAKER CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM WITH KOBE AND SHAQ

So the Spurs can set their defense?

yes that's why we got a KP dunk coz the spurs were really set in their defense...like rocks.

That's the point. The Spurs defense wasn't set in the KP putback. Fool me once but won't fool me twice. Spurs and fool is like fire and ice

Pop was LIVID at LMA for getting beat like that. No way it'd have happened again.

We looked a bit discombobulated out there around halfcourt. A timeout would have been a wise thing to do, IMO.

I think they were looking to Fisher to see if they should call a time out.

That would be "The Matador" Jose Calderone

Some perspective please people!! We had a shot to beat a fantastic Spurs team in their own back yard where they have won the last 30 games. And this after wins in Atlanta and Miami.

It was a great effort to end a hugely improved and impressive road trip by the Knicks. To run a superb team like the Spurs that close is big progress. The last 5 or 6 games have seen massive improvement and we are becoming a real team unit. Great signs for the future, Melo playing like a leader and Porzingis, just wow, his upside is phenomonal.

Batum in the summer and Westbrook in 2017 please Mr Jackson and a Championship challenge will be a reality.

Accentuate the positive.

Nobody is happy with the loss, but there are many games ahead of us and this can be a positive step in the right direction.

Have to build on it, though.

That Melo high screen for KP is a thing a beauty. I see it open nearly every time they run it during games but they miss KP.
It works because there is no way to cheat it. It either gets KP open at the rim or from 3. On top of that it frees up Melo too.

People complaining about a corner 3 by Calderon when he has his fit set with room created by Melo is beyond dumb.

the spacing was horrid and the pass was hot potato-ish, the shot was rushed.

Malcolm @ 1/8/2016 11:06 PM
Calderon is shooting 49% from field -- 3rd best PG in NBA.

He got a good look and just missed (happens 51% of the time) . . .

most people arent knocking the team. Frustration is normal for ANY loss. We fought hard and nearly pulled it out

KP had a super star game tonight !
crzymdups @ 1/8/2016 11:06 PM
Knicks were down 92-80 with 5 minutes to play. They finished the game on a 19-8 run in San Antonio, where San Antonio has not lost since they added LMA, since well before they added LMA.

Maybe Fisher should've called a time out, but the likelihood there is the same folks calling for a time out would be screaming at Melo for taking the last shot out of a time out.

Exactly. You work your butt off to get back in the game and your coach fails to do the one damn thing he's paid to do -- give your team a chance to actually win the game by drawing up a play at end of the game. Fish is NOT Popovich.

this is about as dumb as you can get. calderon had a good look - the shot didn't go in.

Dumb? Right. Calderon had good looks all game long. How did he do? Idiot.

To get a shot that open against the spurs d for a guy like Calderon is a gift. To not recognize that was the right play is ????
GustavBahler @ 1/8/2016 11:06 PM
Great game. great effort. The team stayed mentally tough against maybe the best in that dept. KP carried himself like a franchise player this game the way he looked to dominate right out of the gate. Wasn't thrilled with how it ended, but more importantly the Knicks hung with the Spurs the entire game. Fisher made the right decisions to get them to that point late in the game. More progress, hope he can keep it up.

Yep....I saw that. And Fisher did exactly what Phil did with the Lakers, when they had Kobe and Shaq. This team isn't ready for that no timeout play at the end.....Not yet. They need every single win they can get to build momentum and make a statement for themselves and others.

JrZyHuStLa @ 1/8/2016 11:07 PM
If you want moral victories go watch college.

2nd quarter cost us this game in what was a valiant effort.

nixluva @ 1/8/2016 11:07 PM
LAST SHOTS WOULD BE DIFFERENT WITH A SPEEDY BREAKDOWN PG INSTEAD OF JOSE! Jose is fine in limited use but we can't rely on him for starter minutes. Can't put the ball in his hands and let him create at end of game!
gunsnewing @ 1/8/2016 11:07 PM
crzymdups wrote:Knicks came within 2pts of sweeping what everyone said would be their toughest road trip of the season.

Now the key is to bring that intensity against the likes of the Bucks and the Celtics next few games.

Yes that is the true test. New York teams historically have a hard time getting up for games against the leagues bottom feeders especially the Knicks. Can't just get up for good teams. These next stretch of games will be crucial in determing if this team has really turned the corner

I wouldn't rely on spurs repeating their mistKe.

either fisher has faith in this X's n O's out of a timeout or he doesn't....which one is it?

It's not that simple. Timeout allows pops to set D make subs etc.

And even if he did call a timeout were you expecting a better play than what we got

Jose shooting the short 3 for the win isnt bad. Jose needed to hit that

This was a great effort but still an L

Knicks need to get kissed and take it out on their next opponents
