Knicks · What happens if Melo wants out now? (page 3)

I'd call SacTown. I bet Karl is out. They have the pieces to make a trade. Gay, Collison and Stein.

Collison
Afflalo
Gay
Zinger
Stein

I'm betting on that front court long term. The rest is filler.

Melo has to agree to go to the team he is traded to. Why would he go to Sacramento?

I think he'd go to the Clippers or Bulls or Heat or Wizards. Maybe a few other teams, but not too many others.

You are right. Except I think the Clips and Heat can't handle the trade kicker. Not sure if it is waivable.

Tradekicker doesn't count towards the cap

Why are you emphasizing the word "now"? I didn't say what if he wanted out like a crying bitch. I'm saying what if his thought process changes. It doesn't have to be today or before the deadline. It could be in the summer.

o ok cool. i could be confusing you with other folks who want to trade him NOW. my bad

I don't know how you could when I posted in this thread that I'm good with him or without him.

again, i apologize for confusing you with someone else. thats my bad

is all good man

I do not think you are correct.

Hoiberg feeling heat in Chicago. Trade Melo for Rose and Calderon and Bobby Portis are part of the deal. 36 minute stat for Portis is 15.6 PTs per and 9.9 boards he's 6'11".
Rose Galloway Portis KP Afflalo Thomas D Wilkiams and Rolo. We still have $22 mm go get Batum or Beal.
Grant/Galloway/Rose
Beal/Afflalo (or Batum)
Portis/KP
Thomas/Batum/D Williams
Rolo/KP/OQuinn

$22M gets you EITHER Batum or Beal. Not both.

And Derrick Rose is nowhere near the player he once was.

Paris907 @ 2/9/2016 3:43 AM
Obviously either. Even up you want Teague or Conley or Grant rather than Rose? Now who needs a checkup from the neck up

If he wants to go it won't be our choice where he goes it will be him giving us a list of teams that he'll accept a trade to and then i guess it will be our choice of where he goes but hopefully that list is longer than just 2/3 teams. So i heard the ending of someone talking yesterday about how melo wouldn't get traded at this trade deadline cause i guess he can earn more money if it happens in the off season which like i said i didn't hear it all so don't know what they were talking about so does anyone know how his contract works?? Does he has something going on with his contract that happens after this year or something like that??

roy hibbert, brandon bass, lakers #1 for melo?

Or maybe we can try to actually get some value for him instead of giving him away for a 1st round pick and a couple of trash players??

Briggs is in pouty mode as college basketball season kicks into high gear and the Knicks playoffs chances fade. Happens every year at this time. By tax day, he'll be in a full lather.

EnySpree wrote:I'm ok with the Knicks going forward with Melo. It's about the culture anyway. I get that. Fisher was fired because of that. Melo had been great this year in that regard.

Phil and Melo could have a talk about that same culture. The Knicks nor Carmelo would get screwed in a trade though. So it's a win if he stays or leaves.

I'm good either way with if he stays or he goes as long as i final decision is made on it so we don't have to do this every year. You either decide he's staying and continue on with the plan of building around him and now KP or you trade him and that's only if we're getting back a heck of a return for him like we should and you build around KP but make the decision and get this thing going.

No one is touching Melo and his knees with a 10ft poll certainly not LAC. They are not giving us Blake. I used to think Washington, Charlotte, Houston, Dallas, PHX, Miami or Orlando but not after this latest string of knee issues

I don't see it that way. I absolutely think there will be multiple teams wanting him if he's on the block. The problem will be getting the right return for him but i think when the deadline got closer some teams will bite and give us a nice return for him. I don't think he's going anywhere though.

You know Sacramento is a very interesting team to talk trade with and a team that i never thought of for some reason. Melo wanted Rondo to come to the Knicks and he's made comments about how he'd like to take D.Cousins under his wing so they could make Melo, Rondo and Cousins their big three and they still have some other pieces. I can't believe i never thought about SacTown being the perfect trade partner now would melo accept??

Ok after reading through some posts now i know it's the $5 mil trade kicker that i must of heard them talking about. Thanks

Melo is only waiving his no trade clause for Chicago, the Clippers and maybe the Heat. Rest, forget about it.

From Chicago maybe we could get Noah, Mirotcic and McDermott. We may have to give up more than Melo.
From Clips, maybe we could get Griffen. Maybe. Not sure about it - only if Rivers is truly in charge and not their owner on basketball ops.
From Heat, maybe we could get Winslow, Johnson and Deng.

I wouldn't go that far. If he is in anyway peeved with us, we could get shafted in negotiations. There are only about 3 teams that I could see him have interest in (LAC, MIA and CHI) and they could low-ball us by virtue of their being an artifically lowered demand and Melo's hypothetic disgruntledness. Needless to say, we need to thread lightly, starting with Phil cutting it out with those subtle digs at Melo.

You mean the same Blake that is just 27 years old and who has already missed an entire season of basketball due to a knee injury, has had a broken foot in 2013 (I think) during the playoffs against the Grizzlies, who just broke his SHOOTING hand, and who has missed a number of games for a variety of other injuries throughout his career? That Blake Griffin?

We can pretend that Melo is a turd because of his RECENT health history but Blake Griffin is no better. And unlike Melo, Griffin's scoring game is so heavily predicated around his athleticism, which means that he might not even be a star once he begins to lose it. He might also have issues defensively with the way the league is going to small ball because he'd no longer be able to defend the 4 and has T-Rex arms, which makes him a shitty rim protector at the 5. I do like Griffin but real is real.

Paris907 wrote:I would take Bobbi Portis and Rose for Melo and throw in Calderon. Portis KP Rolo and Rose D Williams Afflalo and Galloway and then put $25 million to use. Is Batum available ?

Gross. Bobby Portis is good but not so good that I'd give up Melo and take back Rose. They'd need to come correct and pony up Nikola Mirotic, Doug McDermott AND Tony Snell. They are ALL having down years BUT have the potential to get better, which is appealing. Not to mention that they are locked into low value contracts for several seasons, which affords us the opportunity to acquire other assets via cap space. For that opportunity, I'd keep Jose Calderon to allow the Bulls the opportunity to pursue Mike Conley via free agency. That should balance out the utility of the trade for both teams.
