Knicks · If i were Phil....Realistic trade scenarios (page 1)

NYY1NYK2 @ 2/8/2016 5:55 PM
So when some guys talk trade scenarios on this site, they only make trades that favor us and make no sense for the other teams..... So here are some calls I think phile should make that would get him a conversation and adress our needs

1) Kevin Martin (Min)-- god knows we need a guard who can score
2) Tyus Jones (Min)-- in the games he has played, he has looked good, Looked great at duke in college, he will never get any burn as long as ricky rubio is around
3) Tyler Hansbrough (Cha) Not really in the rotation, was relevant when given playing time in indiana, plays his heart out everytime out. I think hes better than seraphin
4) Kendall Marshall (76ers) This guy put up rediculous stats 2 season ago starting for the lakers, wouldnt hurt to give him a shot
5) Bradley Beal & Nene for Melo- Free agent after this season, trade melo to a contender, pair him with wall[/b]
6) Courtney Lee & Jeff Green & matt barnes for Melo - In the final year of his contract, consistent, worth a phone call. Jeff green is no melo, Team consistently falls short in the playoffs, Give us cap room to work with moving forward, Appealing trade to both teams (Front court of Gasol,Melo,Randolph) they could give anyone in the west a run for the money

Feel free to comment on any of these and add

I think this just underscores how difficult it will be to make a move that significantly improves things for this team. There's not much that is realistically possible that would make a guaranteed difference. I'd rather make a low risk addition and see if we can catch a break like they did with Shved.

I think of all the trades the memphis one makes the most sense. Memphis is just a player short of a deep run, and the front court of Melo,ZBO, Gasol woudl be a nightmare.

WIth washington they get melo we get beal, beal could help it by saying he wont resign with Washington

VCoug @ 2/8/2016 6:04 PM
Not a fan of trying to improve this current team, it makes no sense. We still need to be looking at an eye towards the future. See if we can pawn off Afflalo for a 1st, he was worth one last year. Same with Calderon and, if not, try and get a couple of 2nd for him. There's absolutely 0 chance that Melo waives his NTC for Memphis, only realistic trade destinations are Miami (for a package for Luol Deng, Winslow, and cap fodder), LAC (a package around Griffing), or Chicago (no idea).
yellowboy90 @ 2/8/2016 6:06 PM
Addition by subtraction by trading AA and DW. I am on the fence on DW but because he can opt out I would trade him.

Shabazz Muhammad would be someone I would look in a 3 team deal. He would replace DW as a young asset.

Also, number 5 makes small sense. You can probably pick up Fournier in FA and he will give you pretty much everything Beal gives you for potentially less money.

Memphis trade doesn't make sense for the Knicks. 3 expiring deals for Melo? not thanks. Everyone one Memphis wants to KILL Green, literally. Barnes is 35 and Courtney is a barely starting SG.

Beal is 23 and is on a minutes restriction. Nene is 33 and clearly on downside of career.

When you trade someone like Melo, you gotta get something in return.

crzymdups @ 2/8/2016 6:11 PM
Blake Griffin is the only Melo trade I'd seriously consider right now.
NardDogNation @ 2/8/2016 6:14 PM
With all due respect, none of your Melo deals make sense from a winning or marketing standpoint for him. And those deals are even worse from our perspective. Why move him for a platoon of veteran players in Memphis? What use would they be to a rebuilding team looking for lottery picks and young players.

Also, none of the PG's you mentioned are particularly good or fit the triangle. I don't see how any of your suggestions further any optimal agenda.

There is a strong chance that Por/Den trade turns into only a 2nd round pick in 2018 if Portland misses the playoffs the next two years. They are right there behind Utah so it will be close but I imagine Portland will start to fall back if things get too close near the end.

@ martin, The deal to memphis is good even if we get expirings read the following reasons..
1) Jeff Green could resign with us or leave
2) Matt barnes is a decent player, hustles
3) Courney lee al so expiring,,,
Moral of the story CAP SPACE

There's zero chance they trade for Barnes right after firing Fisher.

so essentially the best you can do is give Melo away for nothing?

When you build a team you need talent. Why would a high level talent player come to the Knicks minus Melo? And who is that player?

So you think it's a brilliant idea to trade one of the best players in the league....for cap space....and the opportunity to re-sign a bench player quickly approaching 30?

NYY1NYK2 @ 2/8/2016 6:36 PM
Please stop with this star player s#it. Melo is a HIGH VOLUME Scorer. And by volume i mean shot taking. His knee is quickly deteriorating, So yes I would trade melo for half decent players.
Melo is not top 5 in this league. Jeff green is not a star but having him for a year on a team that is going no where would give us room to go after Beal and Durant, who are both better than any player on our roster.
Then you could trade AA and DWILL and Calderon for picks and players

Would give us a starting lineup of
ROLO
KP
Durant
Beal
PG---remains to be seen

NYY1NYK2 @ 2/8/2016 6:38 PM
I love melo, but how many excuses are we gonna make for him

No supporting cast, Bum Shoulder, Bum Knee
It comes a time when you just gotta let it go....

FYI: knee injuries get worse with time (See ewing, tmac, steve francis, Etc)

yeah and his consent to the trade, so this is super unrealistic

That's horrible ideas, sorry but they're bad ideas. You get to get some assets in return when you trade a guy like Melo. We need draft picks and 1 or 2 good young players.

I said a while ago - you could trade Melo to Washington if they miss on Durant. Melo could sell it as a homecoming to Baltimore. Washington could compete with Wall and Beal and Melo. But you need their first round pick unprotected in 2016. And you need Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre.
Paris907 @ 2/8/2016 7:17 PM
Knicks biggest issues are in the backcourt. Trade Melo and Calderon for Rose and Bobby Portis. Youth and a backcourt penetrator

I think Chicago, LA Clippers and maybe Washington are the only teams Melo would agree to waive his no trade.

No sure I want DRose - he seems pretty much done. Though I guess his contract only goes til 2017.

I love Portis though.
