Knicks · Melo isn't going anywhere, he still wants to win a chip in NY (page 1)

Phil, your turn. Watcha' got?
StarksEwing1 @ 2/13/2016 4:59 PM
I doubt he would publicly ask for a trade. So him saying that is what you are suppose to say to the media

There's nothing Phil could do to get Melo to trade his NTC. You can thank Dolan for that one

NTC means nothing with Phil as GM. He said in his last interview that he would never trade a player to a place they did not want to go. While this may not always be best for the Knicks I can always respect someone that adheres to a code of honor.

I think you are missing the point. Phil controls the coaching situation, the system them run and personel other then Melo. So Phil, what are you going to do to improve any of that? Melo has bought in, it's Phil's turn to do what he can to improve our situation

When he's traded players they've gone to good...even great, situations.

Shump/Smith to Cavs

Chandler to the Mavs

Prigs to Houston

nyknickzingis @ 2/13/2016 6:11 PM
I never heard Phil say that, but that's interesting.

It does look good for free agents that sign. They feel they'll be playing for a guy that'll look out for them even when it's time for a change.

Fisher to Govan (?)

Well, I guess the exception proves the rule . . .

I think Phil and his staff are working overtime trying to figure out a way to improve the team. Just not a lot of options. I think Rambis should be able to get the team refocused with some good days of practice.

Oh i guarantee that he's doing everything he can to make a trade but we just don't have the assets that other teams want right now especially when you have so many big names on the trade market right now and it seems like there's a good amount of big names on the market. It's not Phil's fault that we don't have a team full of good players that other teams would want cause he had to take the minimal amount of money he had to spend last off season and spread it out to get as many players as he could which resulted in getting players that are pretty much all limited in what they can do on the court and this is because we're in a rebuild. If we were a good team last year then better players would of wanted to come play with us but we weren't and the only reason why we won't have as much of a problem getting better players to want to come here next year is because we now have KP and Melo and not just Melo.

If he makes any trades at this deadline it most likely won't be anything too significant so we really need to hope that he can make some magic happen in the off season and hope a couple of things fall right for us so we can upgrade this roster. If he could trade Calderon for anything that doesn't hurt our cap next year it's a big win for this off season cause it adds another almost $8 million and if DW and AA opt out then we're really talking about adding that significant piece to Melo and KP. The only thing i think he should be doing right now is getting rid of any of the players that are under contract for next year that aren't part of the plan so we can make that or those significant moves in the off season.

we won't win anything with Melo so I would try to get rid of him. He is a great player, but he won't ever win a title.

It's not about "MELO" winning a Title! It's about MELO, KP and whoever we add collectively winning a title. The way MELO plays now is going to be very good for this team going forward as we improve the team and develop the youth on this team. If we had a better PG right now it would push this team higher. We can expect more than one better player to be added to this team!

i agree about melo winning a title, but the context for him winning will have a whole lot to do with how many minutes he plays, ie far fewer per game in the regular season. he is breaking down and a melo in street clothes has almost zero value, unless rah-rah has some value. you have to hope rambis limits his minutes until the end of the season. getting back to playing .500 ball will get the knicks to around 34-35 wins, which is pretty much what most people expected in the first place. that is entirely doable with melo playing 24-27 minutes a night.

Kemet @ 2/14/2016 12:50 PM
Lets watch the All-Star Game to see if Lebron has a interest in clicking with Melo ...

A 31 year old Melo is not going to turn down a great offer to go to the FINALS this season!
Plus Phil know our $124M Melo trade value are much higher in return during the deadline than in the offseason.
Phil n Melo are lokking at each other wondering about our last 12 games being 1-11 ???

I would expect closer to 28-34 minutes, depending on how the game is going, is more realistic from Rambis. Obviously depending on how MELO feels there are a lot of different possible outcomes. If MELO stays I expect he will help this team a lot and it's really all about the coach and Phil doing their jobs in improving this roster.

I think it will be interesting to see if Melo asks Lue to play less minutes. Phil suggested that Melo could use this approach to rest his knee.

KP is a rookie with no paint skills on offense/defense ..
Melo need a captain of the team like Lilard, CP3, Lebron to go to the FINALS (Melo is not a team leader!)

Melo has no good reasons to want to stay in ny

his kid and wife can still be in ny or LA or wherever they want to be. there's plenty of big expensive condos with functional heating they can buy in cleveleand to stay in when they fly in and out of town on private jets.

I live in Rochester and I was able to get to the Bronx in 5 1/2 hours on a regular basis when my sister was sick. Cleveland is right off what becomes the NYS Thruway. I would think you could leave Cleveland and be in NY in 7-8 hrs. max.

KP is a rookie but he already has shown a lot. I would think he'll continue to be able to have an impact the rest of this year and even more next yr. MELO isn't done! He should decline at a relatively slow pace based on his style of play. IMO adding any upgrades at the guard spots and continued development of our prospects will put this team in the playoff picture.

MELO was playing great before the ref tripped him. It's easy bash MELO for not being a great leader but he was leading just fine up to that point and if they gave him a quality PG this team would be in contention. MELO is not the problem right now.
