Knicks · You trade melo, you risk losing KP (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 2/26/2016 2:47 PM
Obviously Melo has had a tremendous impact on KP, and there is a good chance if we trade his Brother from another mother, he may bounce the first chance he gets, even though he's locked in for the next 3 season, we will definitely be a laughing stock without at strong veteran roster with at least another star or 2.

Be careful what you wish for

At 7-foot-3 and possessing a future brighter than a car’s high beams, Kristaps Porzingis is literally and figuratively the Knicks’ biggest building block moving forward. Wherever that path leads, Porzingis wants Carmelo Anthony beside him.

“Obviously, I wouldn’t want to lose him. He is who he is on our team, he’s very special, and we need him to do big things in the future, especially for me,” Porzingis said Thursday when the notion of Anthony possibly waiving his no-trade clause and leaving this summer arose. “I love playing alongside him, so that would obviously not be something that I want.”

Porzingis has spoken enthusiastically of his relationship with Anthony and what he has learned from the perennial All-Star while navigating the NBA rookie-season minefield.

This was no different.

After the Knicks prepared for Friday’s home game with Orlando, Porzingis praised Anthony’s positive vibe with teammates amid the muck that has enveloped the team. The Knicks, once 22-22, have lost 13 of 15 games and are 11 games below mediocre (24-35). Anthony’s frustration was publicly evident this week, but with teammates, he has been what they’ve needed, Porzingis said.

“He’s very professional. He knows what he’s doing. Obviously, we all know he’s frustrated, and we’re frustrated, but he’s not showing it,” Porzingis said. “Nobody’s showing it. We’re just staying together, staying strong, working hard. He’s doing a great job of showing how everybody needs to be. … Obviously, deep inside, you’re frustrated, but he’s not showing that, so I think he’s been a great leader.”

LOL KP is not going anywhere, Melo or not.

He'll be a Knick for a long time. He'll be a Restricted FA after his rookie deal ends so the Knicks can match anyone.

the thread is inaccurate. Melo being traded doesnt effect KP staying here. KP is gonna be the face of the franchise for the next decade. Obviously you dont want melo traded i can see that but either way KP is gonna be here a long time

Yeah, I wouldn't trade him for just 2 first rounders. I would trade him for 2 first rounders and $100 mil in cap space, though.

KP said recently that he wanted to be a Knick for life, didn't qualify that remark. Would be uncharacteristic for Porzingis to use what leverage he has this soon. Kristaps is just lookin' out for his mentor and big brother. Wouldnt read too much into it.

No, I meant your comments above, sound like something Berman or Isola would conclude to, especially the "good chance" part

I doubt t. KP comes from professional basketball stock and understands it's just business Q isn't Melo leaving but what will we get in return

I mean you guys have melo in every trade possible, and if were losing without melo and just KP and bunch of young role players, he to will be in every trade possible

Name one high draft pick that wasn't a total bomb that didn't extend rookie contract and stay with current team. 1 player.

KP isn't going to look back on a trade from 3 years prior and be like, "you know what, despite everything else, Knicks traded Melo, I'm gone".

These guys like each other and like playing with each other. They worked out together a lot in the summer. KP is young but he is a professional. He knows what Melo means to his development and the teams.
He’s very special.

“And we need him to do big things in the future, especially for me. I love playing alongside him, so that would obviously not be something that I want.”
