Knicks · Is this Affalo situation BAD for free agents? (page 2)
does he opt in and take the money, remaining epically disgruntled but get paid or does he opt out and get paid a lot less to get the same 20-24 minutes elsewhere, or 16-20 minutes on a contender? gut check time for him.
Afflalo has a NBA career of being on 5 different teams within 8 seasons .. would u sign Afflalo for $8M per?
We gave AA the green light plus 30 minute playing time as a starter and as a bench player throughout the season.
What has AA 2015-16 season show us? It showed us the reason why AA performance has been on 6 teams in 9 seasons.
Do u really think AA want to make it 7 teams in a 10 year NBA career.
No member on this board could evaluate O'Quinn or Serafin performance from this 2015-16 season.
The two big men were DNP every-other-other game throughout the season for no reason at all.
Plus
Melo and D.Will are SF wing players, they are not Bigs for the paint nor are they low post Bigs.
Lance Thomas and Sasha are SG wing players, they are not SF wings.
Grant and Gallo are combo-Guards, best use together in a lineup when running a 3 guard offense to speed up the tempo of the game to get points on fast breaks.

1. Who cares about Derek Fisher anymore? Who cares what we pay the coach?
2. No one is likely to offer AA a contract for $8 mil per, but he should be able to get a contract that pays him more than the $8 mil we owe him next season. It's the guaranteed money over the course of his last contract that will matter to him more than the single season at $8 mil he'd make if he stayed in NY. It's only logical for him to opt out and try to get a longer term contract.
3. KOQ is signed for a low number and they pretty much know what he is. Seraphin was even cheaper but he seems to be someone the team wants to keep around. He's not the worst reserve big you could have for such a small contract. If he wants more money let him walk.
4. Melo and DWILL are tweeners. Not really SF's and not big PF's either. They're actually quite flexible.
5. Lance is a SF. Sasha is a SG/SF.
6. Jerian is a Combo Guard who can execute PnR well enough and Gallo is more of a small SG. Gallo's not very good running an offense. Both are going to be helped by playing this style of ball since they don't have to be Jason Kidd in order to play in the Triangle. They do need to improve but it's not an offense that puts a high demand on the PG. Quality Combo guards are usually all you need in the Triangle. The main reason is that in the Triangle the PG isn't having to handle the entire floor at the same time. Usually he's only dealing with half the floor. Either the Triangle side or the Pinch Post side. The reads are much simpler.

Most likely Affalo was going to opt out anyways - in fact any agent that doesnt make their player client opt out in this market would be a fool. So why antagonize him and make him upset - it wouldnt have forced him out any quicker. Now theres the potential for him to TALK to other players about how badly he was treated here.grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
All other players have to see is a declining role player with a flat jumper that only comes to play every ten days. Affalo was part of the worst backcourt in the nba and played so poorly on both ends that he got replaced by a scrub who unlike affalo at least gives 110% no matter what.
Affalo would be wise to not exercise his option because no team in there right mind is paying him 7 mil
He's a vet min guy now esp after two very disappointing seasons production wise .
He's a nice vet backup on the decline most AA gets is min contracts .
AA is gonna opt out IMO because his agent should be able to get him more guaranteed money. Grabbing the $8 mil by opting in actually puts his next contract at risk. Suppose he gets hurt or has a worse season for the Knicks? Maybe he can get a 2 or 3 yr deal for $6 mil per.
Yeah i think he's gonna look more for getting a multiple year contract than getting more than $8 for one year again.

He really does seem comfortable here...and let's face it, this season for him should have been one where he set himself up for a good contract during FA next year.
If he lost about 20lbs, I might even consider resigning him if we could give him a 3yr O'Quinn type contract, but with the Knicks having a team option on him at some point.
Lopez/KP/Hernangomez/Seraphin/O'Quinn should be enough at the 4/5 position, with Williams being a swing man between 3/4. You also have the Melo at 4 option.
As for AA- he needs to lose 15 lbs, IMO. He has too much extra weight to be consistently effective at the 2. His legs look shot at times. I have appreciated his desire, but he needs to address his age, and that means weight loss and improved fitness training, IMO.

After seeing KOQ for the full year I'm not sure what Phil liked in him, especially if he was aware of OQuin's foot speed and general defensive awareness. I wouldn't mind Seraphin on a KOQ type of deal but only if KOQ is traded. It's just too many bigs if Willy is also signed.
For other FAs i think it's fine. I imagine some of them are considering the KNicks precisely because they want to start and think they're better than AA anyway. They have to see it as much as an opportunity -- i.e., if i play well i start as opposed to some politics of AA being the incumbent
And if they don't see it that way, honestly we don't want them.

How can he get any assists when he can't break down the defense? Fish ran some floppy for him and he got his post touches but he doesn't fit into many offenses with his inability to create space. AA would be a good backup swingman but he'll command too much money for that.
There's like 2 or 3 (melo shevd Rolo)players that have thrive in this system since phil out of 30 players in 2 yrs.. Are you really thinking it's the player

I expect are right about Jackson's probable opinion of him.
O'Quinn has been a major disappointment. Little fire in his game and his D has been poor. Was really rooting for this guy.
Has a vertical leap like I do, and has done nothing to compensate for it in terms of his inside game.
Wonder if he is has any kind of trade value? His performance this year has not helped his trade value, much.

So KOQ played sporadic minutes the entire season, some games 4 mins, 18 minuts, 1 minute, 1 game a wk, 1 game a month, maybe 2..and your blaming him for being inconsistent..."unfckngbelievable"
We knew what to expect when we signed him, and there was no way you can expect for him to improve getting shafted like that (do you remember he had season high in points and rebounds, and was benched the the very next game). Even Rolo who saw little to no real minutes after the first qtr of games in the first 2 months of the season, was starting to look like a disappointment.
I wish you guys would look at the entire picture instead of putting everything on the players

Very true another year like this year and he might be playing over seas
