You can flip it that they benched Affalo for Phil's guy, or you can say the truth and that is Affalo sucks. The Knicks want a certain type of shooting guard. Sasha is the blueprint. We want to show free agents, "see what Sasha is doing? You would be successful in that role" we can't show clips of affalo posting up and fading away every single time. Bye

I sort of wonder if Afflalo isn't fully healthy. Something seems off with his legs to me - he has no lift on his shot. It seems like he's really laboring just to jump for a regular jump shot.

Afflalo is playing off of a long-gone reputation. Opposing players are just salivating when the opportunity presents itself to play against him. Watch how easily the man who he guards, runs past him. Something that can only be described as "Calderon-esque". Little to no defensive present. No drives to the basket. Just a ball stopping, pound it in offensive move. He remind me of the ISO Melo days, just less effective. He can continue with his cute Instagram war, but it's obvious that he's being exposed.
i think any FA that's any good won't even think about it. they'd be more like "well i'm not affalo. he sucks. i don't"
plus Rambis should be a goner.
On the one hand maybe it was a way to get him to opt out of his contract. On the other hand, maybe they wanted scoring off the bench, that Galloway wasn't getting done.

I don't think anyone who we really want on the team is sweating AA's sack so they wouldn't be comparing themselves to him in a potential FA situation- Rolo is a better comparison for a mid-level FA and Melo for high profile FA and the Knicks have been cool w both- that's what I would be seeing if I was a FA w a high self opinion- I don't think the NBA sees AA as a starting 2 on a winning team
Sasha was brought here to promote the triangle and he does that for the most part. His shot wasn't falling but that's to be expected from a guy who hadn't really played in the NBA in 5 years. AA was trash and he's been continuously in the NBA.

ha ha i'd love to be a fly on the wall listening to afflalo speak to anyone about how badly he was treated by the knicks. i'd love to hear that little chat.
Its funny because Kevin Seraphin seems to have stayed positive throughout the season and I can't imagine he thought he would get so little playing time.
He got to start up to the 60 game mark. He still gets major minutes. He's being phased into a more suiting role, and to set the table up for next year, where the Knicks probably want a change in the starting lineup.
There's been zero indication he won't opt in or that he will opt out and leave. What good playoff team would he start for? Not too many. I think most good teams would bring Afflalo off the bench.
Most FA's we would actually WANT will hopefully be much better than AA, so their mentality is gonna be much more confident in their own abilities. Sasha and last year Shved are closer to what we want from that position in terms of how they approach the game. Pushing the ball, attacking the basket, coming off screens with gusto and being a pest on Defense. AA never passes, doesn't drive and he mostly looks to post up or spot up! He would be OK off the bench, but I suspect he's gone.
Any FA is gonna be thinking about their own role and situation based on what they discuss with Phil and their Agent etc.

Yeah, I think Afflalo thinks he is much better than he actually is.
Though I also have a strong suspicion he is playing hurt. I don't know why he'd do it, but he just seems limited out there, especially compared to what we saw in December/January.

I seem to be in the minority here on Seraphin but just from what I saw: Seraphin should've played more. I'm not saying either guy is Karl malone, but Seraphin's flat out a better player than KOQ. Hands down. I think every phase of his game is better--post offense (in a big way--too bad because this aspect of KS's game could've been perfected into a real weapon for us), better mid range jumper, and he's a better shot-blocker. I think I prefer him as a rebounder as well...Somewhere early on (say a month into the season give or take) a determination should've been made (but sadly wasn't) on KOQ vs. Seraphin.. After awhile, I wanted to see Seraphin get 20+ mins/gm EVERY GAME. The big 3 rotation up front should've been Rolo/KP with Seraphin picking up the backup minutes at each spot. No need to ever have extended it beyond that...O'Quinn only should've gotten mins. if one of these 3 ahead of him wasn't available for some reason. I think if we went about it like that, we could've won more games, if only just a handful. I mean to go the whole season and not make a decision between Seraphin or O'Quinn = mistake. It was O'Quinn early on, then Seraphin got a chance right around the Paris bombings (against N.O. & Anthony Davis at the Garden I think, right?) and he really responded that game (big reason why we won that afternoon--I remember KP playing poorly that day), then all of sudden he was out again, then neither of them played...I mean it was a joke. One of the two should've been established as a regular rotation player. Instead, Fisher/Rambis jerked both guys around the whole season, and the result was two ineffective players.
I've said this before -- one of our first moves this coming offseason should be to find a taker for O'Quinn. A future 2..Even for just cash.. Give the dude away, man. I'm telling ya, we'll be better off. Nothing personal with him--I just thought he would've been a much bigger impact player than what he really is. He played like he doesn't even belong in the NBA this year. I want his salary wiped off the books. That would be a big plus. We're not moving Calderon--only if we decide to stretch him which I wouldn't do after thinking about it clearly (why extend the Calderon problem to future seasons? One more year and then he's gone--you only do it if Kevin Durant agrees to come here beforehand. Maybe for DeRozan too--although I don't really want DeRozan to be honest..). Unloading O'Quinn is our best play to free up some more cap room. We've got Willy coming over, even a guy like Justin Harper from the DL I think would be a better alternative (Harper goes 6'9"+ 225 and he can really shoot the ball -- a cross between Chris Copeland/Channing Frye. I think Harper, with his outside shooting alone, could give us more than O'Quinn did this year).
I want to move in a different direction at the 2 now but not because I don't like Afflalo. On the contrary--I think Afflalo's a fine player. The dude's an offensive player who needed to get a consistent amount of shots every game. I don't think he got that and his game suffered because of it at times. Combination of two big keys that contributed to AA not being as effective as he could've been: didn't have a good enough PG capable of getting him the ball more and didn't have a coach/system that called his number more. I've heard a lot about how he wasn't a good enough defender, a good enough rebounder, didn't pass enough...I just don't get that. Just didn't see it that way. If AA had a shot, I wanted him to take it. Wasn't that why he was brought here--to be a main offensive contributor. Not a good enough rebounder? What did we really expect from AA on the glass, or from any 2G for that matter? Didn't pass enough? I mean at what expense? At the expense of passing up his own looks? I thought he moved the ball fine enough and was a decent enough post entry passer (you know who's passing was overrated btw? KOQ's). Just talked about how making a decision on KOQ vs. Seraphin (I feel it should've been Seraphin) could've helped us win some extra games this year. Likewise, I feel if we had made a little better effort to firmly establish AA as more of a go-to 2nd option, we could've won even more games. Oh well.
Sorry, don't think that Aflalo passes either the eye test nor the advanced metrics test. He's sort of a black hole when the ball comes in, he will shoot first and is not a good enough/consistent enough shooter to warrant that. He also has problems staying in front of his man on D.
Seraphin is similar (at least the black hole part). He is a shoot first guy without being a difference maker. I would actually retain KOQ and try to build up his value instead of dumping him for nothing. The secret to building an NBA roster is having enough guys on your roster who play above their salary cap hit. Sometimes you have to be patient with guys on cap friendly deals to see how they pan out.

All other players have to see is a declining role player with a flat jumper that only comes to play every ten days. Affalo was part of the worst backcourt in the nba and played so poorly on both ends that he got replaced by a scrub who unlike affalo at least gives 110% no matter what.
Affalo would be wise to not exercise his option because no team in there right mind is paying him 7 mil
He's a vet min guy now esp after two very disappointing seasons production wise .
He's a nice vet backup on the decline most AA gets is min contracts .

or maybe he could end up like JR with no one knocking, and him settling, hopefully his agent is smarter than JR's
interesting dilemma for him: the world knows he sucks real bad as a starter on a sub-.500 team and should not be awarded more than 20-24 minutes a game tops. on a good team he shouldn't be playing more than 16-20 minutes a game, if that.
does he opt in and take the money, remaining epically disgruntled but get paid or does he opt out and get paid a lot less to get the same 20-24 minutes elsewhere, or 16-20 minutes on a contender? gut check time for him.
