Sorry, Walt, thought this was worthy of its own thread.
I knew Mills would try to push Blatt and started a thread about it in March, but this is the first I've seen that he is the focus, along with Rambis.
I think Blatt will be presented by Mills to Dolan and Melo and Phil as a compromise choice.
Regardless, ESPN now basically reporting Blatt as a frontrunner, along with Rambis.
I hope Phil at least has a long talk with him. I think he got thrown under the bus by Lebron - Cavs have been worse since Blatt left and strife between Kyrie, Love, and Bron has gotten worse since Blatt left.

WTF does Melo have to do with Blatt??? Blatt was a likely option based on Mills and not anything Melo had to say. Phil would've already named Rambis if he was convinced he was the only choice for Head Coach. If you guys think Phil really is impacted by Melo you really have lost your minds. Melo is along for the ride at this point. Phil has been adding younger and younger players and has basically moved on with a more long term plan. It's really all about KP and the kids more so than anything having to do with Melo. If Melo asked to be traded tonight Phil wouldn't blink.
This isn't an anti Melo thing it's just being real. Listen to how Phil talks about Melo when asked and you can tell he's fine with or without Melo. He's no longer building with Melo as the focal point. He drafted Jerian and Willy for KP, not Melo. I'm glad Melo is still here but the second they drafted KP it was all about the future. Even RoLo is protection for KP.

wrong. Melo has a huge pct of the cap with a NTC. He has a say and if listened to or not, I am sure that phil is at listening to him.
what melo has to do with blatt? You seem to have missed the point. Blatt is not Rambis. That is enough in itself.

NO WAY. Rambis had his shot to win the job. It's that simple. Phil likes what Rambis brings but the only way to overcome his record and perception is if Rambis had been very successful in his audition. This has literally ZERO to do with what Melo wants. It's just another pragmatic decision to make. If they do sign Blatt it would only make sense. He looks like a perfect fit. He's known to Mills. Has a successful record. He's likely to not have a problem with running the Triangle or having some of Phil's guys. I think that's the extent of it. Melo is an afterthought. His days of having the juice card are over. All he can do is ask for a trade, which Phil would gladly give him and that's no power over him at all.

We all already know that Blatt is one of the guys Phil is gonna look at but lets remember that espn and every writer at espn has absolutely no idea what Phil is thinking and who the front runner is. Now of course Rambis and Blatt are the two most logical answers but the espn people are just assuming.

Will coaches want Phil's bestie potentially spying on him to Phil?I wonder if Rambis gets moved upstairs to take a position like he had with the Lakers for awhile. Having to take over a team and not bring your own staff can't be that attractive a situation. Blatt already faced a ton adversity in Cleveland. He might be smart to make hiring his own staff a condition of taking the job. However, he probably doesn't get the job if that is the case.

Stein is pretty solid, IMO...Begley is also piggybacking on Stein's reporting.
Comes down to the integrity of the reporter and his/her sources.
Maybe Blatt or coach X gets an interview just so Phil can show he's actually conducting a "search," even if he intends to hire Rambis...or maybe he offers Blatt the job contingent on Rambis being his assistant, at which point Blatt has Cleveland flashbacks and declines the job.
Just don't think I would dismiss Stein and others as simply guessing.
How David Blatt Will Run the Cleveland Cavaliers OffenseCoach David Blatt is definitely a man that is in motion during a game. I have watched a lot of footage on Coach Blatt’s Maccabi Tel Aviv team and the Russian National team. He likes his team in motion just like he is in motion on the sidelines. David Blatt will be coaching a team that has a ton of talent like LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, and some very interesting talent. He comes to the NBA with the reputation of being an offensive genius. David Blatt is an american who played at Princeton and spent the last few decades overseas becoming one on the top coaches on that continent. He just let Maccabi Tel Aviv to an upset Euroleague title win. He is the first coach to make the leap straight from the euroleague head coach to the NBA head coach.
Most people are watching the NBA summer league in Las Vegas the next couple weeks to see how David Blatt and his NBA Summer League Cleveland Cavaliers will be playing. He is imploring his guys to get out and run with every opportunity and even off his opponent’s makes. He is often on the bench, trying to teach the guys sitting there, and encouraging players like Anthony Bennett when he sees a good play.
Coach David Blatt loves teaching the game and learning about the game. He is definitely a student of the game. He likes to listen to Coaches like Larry Brown and others for advice.
Looking for more on the Princeton Offense? Check the Princeton Hybrid Offense Playbook …
You will see the Cleveland Cavaliers running some princeton offense where they move the ball and keep moving off the ball. You will also see a very up tempo offense that is about reading what the defense gives them and exploiting it.He will wait to see what players are on the roster and will tailor make his set play offense according to them. Coach David Blatt understands that there is a different rhythm to coaching in the NBA compared to Europe and that he will need to get used to it. That’s the exact reason that he is coaching the Summer League team when most coaches leave that to an assistant coach.
David Blatt is very polished and smooth with the media and has a great sense of humor. He looks like he is having a blast doing what he loves already in the NBA.
There's some video and diagrams in the original article.

I just don't see Phil letting that info out especially this early in the process with all the heat he's been getting about not doing any kind of extensive coaching search.

Melo might not be in favor of Blatt after a talk with Lebron, but I don't think Phil gives a damn what Melo thinks. Blatt or any new coach is really here for the kids that will be taking over the team if Melo is gone. These are formative years for our younger players. I can guarantee there's more concern and planning for them than there is concern about Melo's feelings. Melo is free to express his feelings to Phil but in the end I don't think it will sway Phil one bit. I think Phil's thinking is if you don't like it you can opt out of your NTC. This is bigger than one older player.

I had the same thought. Good question.

You just answered your own question about why he would do it!
Normally I wouldn't think Jackson would let this kind of info out, but maybe he's feeling the criticism and allowing some things to get out in order to show he isn't just handing the job over to his friend Rambis.
So the guy with 48 years experience and the one with all the rings somehow can't do this right? All because His second choice turned out bad?
Tough crowd we got here.
And where do most of these fans get their thoughts from? Isola? Bondy? The daily news?
NY fans maybe do get what they deserve.
All the evidence is the Triangle and this evil three sided monster has some how cock blocked the knicks from the playoffs, cuz we were better off with JR, Shump, Bargnani and woodson.

Agree with this.
Also, I really think Mills is involved with this Blatt idea in some way. Remember, there are conflicting agendas at work in MSG. Does Melo want what Phil wants? Does Dolan want what Phil wants? Does Dolan want to lose his prize trade acquistion Melo is there's another season of missed playoffs? The idea that Phil is the only guy involved in this search is kinda silly. MSG is a big business.
And the idea that real info doesn't leak is sort of absurd. I've worked in entertainment and publishing industries all my life - most of what is going on behind the scenes does indeed leak out. It's not all true, but it's usually got some truth to it.
Why would Stein be wrong on this? A week ago he was saying Minnesota was focused on Thibs. Was he making up the Knicks report, but not the TWolves report? Is he making up the report that Brooks is meeting with Washington in CA?
I'm all for a little skepticism - but this isn't Berman trying to sell papers, this is ESPN's senior basketball reporter reporting what he heard.
Phil has final say on all basketball matters. Dolan should be no where near any of this. He deserves an explanation from his team on why they are moving in a direction.
Blatt has a nice work ethic and has won everywhere he has gone. But we are not asking him to bring his "System" and implement it. We'd be asking him to adhere to the what PHil wants.
Whats the pushback with Phil by fans and media? That we don't have a superstar to run it? Well, Kobe was a cocky teenager when he got Uncle Phil and Jordan already was a high scoring marketing machine sociopath with 5 years already in the NBA before he got with the program. What did we have when PHil walked in? Melo. Melo has done well, but he can't do it alone. Now he has GodZingis, potentially a player that can redefine the game. PHil is not the coach but the system is proven.
This is worth it.
Know whats cool? Phil and Rambis teaching the kids the purity of the triangle. They gotta learn to make the cuts without the ball. Its freaking april and we doing mini camp!!!! Even Melo came to show his support. That either helps recruiting or his trade value that he is not a total dick. At this moment in time we have a coach and a GM that are in synch. So what if Rambis is a puppet! Think when Red Auerbach retired from the bench he'd hire guys that didn't do what he wanted? Red had a huge ego, and two fists full of rings. Think Riley's guys don't adhere to his directive? Think Spo has aproblem with not "being my own man"? Wealth and job security is pretty good. Riles did pull a dyke move on SVG, but he has pretty much been patient with Spo.
One mans puppet is another mans trusted colleague.
