Interesting coaching option.
This would be that sneaky oh shit you didn't see that coming type of Phil Jackson move. I think Vogel is a great coach. Tag along Shaw and Rambis for the ride and let's make it happen.
He's a fantastic defensive mind. The main area I feel Rambis is lacking.
Rambis being the offensive guru and Vogel being head coach and defensive guy?
I would sign on for that.
I would even say I prefer Vogel over Blatt.
And with this news, I bet Mark Jackson is hired to be the next Coach in Indiana

For me it's hard to determine exactly what assistant coaches are doing and what their impact is. Wasn't Rambis the defensive coach for the Lakers under Phil?
i would forgive phil if this happened

What more can you ask for?
I felt those Indiana teams took on his persona. He lead those guys especially that year Stevenson broke out. He had those guys playing like dogs. Even this year. They wore Toronto down 7 games. They also bullied alot of teams this year, including our Knicks. If we can get him, this is the guy I want to coach the Knicks. I want Brian Shaw and Rambis on his staff too. This is the right direction for the knicks

I guess he was. I'm not sure what to say about Rambis, but I just don't like him as a coach.
What about Vogel as head coach with Shaw as head offensive guy running the Triangle - that was Indiana's best season - the season they beat the Knicks in the second round and got to the ECF vs Miami.
I can seriously live with this.

I'm wit it
Honestly I am just down for anyone but one of the worse coaches in recent NBA history...... Vogel did his best with the Triangle Offense and he does know Phil somewhat.....

He fits Phil's two supposed criteria of being someone Phil knows and someone who has shown a willingness to run the Triangle offense...
The thing I like about Vogel - he just gives off the vibe that he knows what the fuck he's doing. Like he's unflappable and on top of shit. Phil had that vibe. I really think Rambis lacks it. It's a weird, intangible quality the best coaches have. And I think you need it for the players to respect you. Vogel has it. Blatt may not even have it - part of his problem with Lebron. Rambis does not have it. I'm sorry, he doesn't.
Just my two cents, but I think there is something to that air of authority and excellence as a coach. Some guys got it, some don't. Vogel has it. Do other guys see that quality in Rambis? I just don't. He's a lieutenant, not a general.
Vogel plans on running the triangle offense?
come on jax, make it happen already

Not saying he "plans" on it. But he has used it in the past with B Shaw as his offensive coach.
And since Shaw has left, he has taken a LOT of criticism about his offensive choices. It'll prob be the main reason Bird lets him go in Indiana.

That's how I feel about Vogel exactly. I saw he had it when we played then in the playoffs a few years back. He has that borderline arrogant edge. His team's took that persona on. I love the guy.
Dr. FrankenPhil:
Yes, one part Shaw, One part Rambis and the head of Vogel!!!
Does it work that way, we have "coordinators" in basketball or perceived ones? I get some assistants are stronger than others.
so now the ABR (anyone but rambis)is in full effect!
