Watching the Cavs handle adversity is very interesting.
Irving seems to crack under pressure as does JR, Shumpert, Love and most of the team.
Lebron can't leave Cleveland after remaking the roster and getting his buddies signed for big money. But, there is no way Melo and KP would not be tripling Love and Irvings production if they had james on the floor. You could switch Lebron onto the current Knicks roster and they would be in the finals right now. Remove him and Cleveland barely makes the playoffs and likely misses it all together.

Well said. It's "how you play the game" as much as the winner or loser metric. Mattingly was the best all around 1st basemen in his too short prime, so poor comparison. Ewing made the playoffs for the entire decade of the 90s and battled constantly with the best players at his position and the best teams in his generation. For all Admiral, Shaq, Mutombo, Hakeem, and Mourning gave, he gave right back to them. For all Jordan and Reggie and Pat Riley's Heat gave to Ewing and his Knicks, he won a good amount as well. Not enough for a ring unfortunately, but his ledger is still intact.
Can't say any of this about Melo. Just collects paychecks, buys soccer teams in Puerto Rico, and has eyes strictly toward post basketball in the Tech sector. Not every athlete was bred to bleed and succeed in NY. Melo isn't one of them, and that's okay. He's a businessman first, athlete second. Unforunately, he's the preeminent athlete taking a 3rd of our payroll on our favorite basketball team.
It means Im not so sure that Melo would agree to be traded to Cleveland without a major house cleaning, and LeBron wont stay without one if they lose in 4-5 games.
Part of that house cleaning would involve sending players to NY which might not leave enough for Melo and LeBron to contend with. If LeBron went back to Miami, I could definitely see Melo following him and they have enough pieces on Miami for both the Knicks and the Heat to make an equitable trade.

Besides the fact that he has more-less said it directly, it is clear Lebron is all about the buddy system. Melo, Wade, and Paul are the only 3 star players (and Bosh to a lesser extent) that he trusts to carry a franchise with him and have the same approach, maturity, and preparation as him. Mattingly squeezed every ounce out of that non athletic low expectation body. He gave it his all both mentally and physically. There was nothing he left on the table. For a few years, he was the best player in baseball and one of the best defensive first basemen in history.
Ewing though an excellent player was no mattingly. There was a lot to be desired especially his passing or lack thereof. He did give 100% effort all the time so I could never blame him for being lazy.
Just a thought but with Pjax calling out of Lebron to take more of a Michael Jordan lead in order to win the series, is it possible that he was laying the ground work for Lebron to consider leaving Cleveland and come to NY so that he could win again with PJax and Melo?
Just the way that Phil operates and how he always says things with a purpose makes me think that was a subtle message.

Well, for one thing LBj would probably go year to year or at most a 2 year deal. He seems to like not being held down by long term deals.

However i do agree with you from a NY point of view. ARe you then saying that Phil was laying the groundwork for a Melo to Cleveland deal? That would be interesting also. Who would NY get back? Irving? Love? I am not sure that works for NY either other than getting out of Melo's deal. I would take Irving for Melo however. younger and he could be a good guard in the Hornacek system.

That might have been Phil's intention but LeBron seemed to chafe at Jackson's comments. Looks like he took the advice to heart though, LeBron came out swinging last night. If LeBron took a pay cut to keep the Knicks from being gutted to sign him, I might be up for that. Just dont want LeBron playing GM. He's lost enough finals for me to put aside the crap LeBron put Knicks fans through (among others) with "The decision". If he goes anywhere most likely he will go back to Miami with Melo possibly following him IMO.
I still think the big fallout will be Cleveland trading Kevin Love this summer. I'm betting to Boston. Maybe for the third pick overall so Cleveland can draft Buddy Hield or someone.

Yeah, I do think Bron chooses scapegoats.
But I think roster construction-wise, it'd make sense for Cleveland to trade Love for a better SG or a swiss army knife type forward to play next to Bron - sort of like Jefferson did last night. Though you can't count on RJ to do that for a full season, I bet they'll start him the rest of the Finals.
Love-for-Melo works; makes a lot of sense. We could flip Love to BOS for the moon and fast-track our path to long-term sustainable winning.
