A lot of us are interested in Clarkson but i don't see any way the Lakers don't match an offer sheet unless it's a ridiculous amount which is something we shouldn't and won't be doing anyway.

i think he's more of SG in a PG body whos best role is off the bench as a 6th man
Gross. Shoot first, shoot second point guard/combo guard...pass.
Yeah, I've never been impressed by Clarkson and I wind up catching a fair amount of Lakers games.
Also, this is a straight non-story if you go off the original quote:
"The club will have at least $18 million to spend in the offseason, and could also explore the trade market to acquire a guard. They and any other team with needs in the backcourt will have interest in free agent Mike Conley. Restricted Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson also has fans in the Knicks organization, but it seems as if Los Angeles will retain the second-year player."
I think the Knicks will offer a big 1 year offer to Rondo to help make the team competitive this year.
I think this is click bait. He's under the arenas rule so it would have to be a backloaded contract with I think around 6 mil cap hit this year. Even if the knicks give him a max the lakers have so much space they could match it and still continue to sign any FA that wants to go to LA. The max part of the contract wouldn't kick in until 2 more seasons later.

Yeah i can really see them going for Rondo but i don't see Rondo doing another 1 year deal since the one he did last year was about him proving himself worthy of a longer deal but i can see them going after him and getting a shooter at the SG position and even another lower cost guard that can shoot. As we know this team needs shooters cause as of now we don't have any guards that can shoot besides Afflalo and we all hope he opts out.
We would have to go after a C.Lee or someone around his cost if we signed Rondo cause i don't think we could afford Crabbe or Bazemore if we signed Rondo. Maybe if both Afflalo and DW opt out and we can find someone to take on Calderon and his expiring contract we could.

I've been saying for a while that i think the Lakers could really surprise a lot of people and be the winners of free agency this off season. They have $60 million to spend and some really good young talent on that team in J.Clarkson, J.Randle, L.Nance and D.Russell and a new young coach that has made a name for himself in L.Walton. I could see them getting two top free agents this off season with D.Derozan being one.

+1 - I agree with this assessment. I am not interested given the money he would command to even have a shot at acquiring him as a RFA

I agree they have a lot of money and the way the cap rules work it will be hard to get any of their youth away from them. The only real negative is this isn't that great of a FA class. So even if they walk away with Derozan and say Whiteside (or another Marquee FA). That isn't going to make them contenders, or even guarantee them a high playoff seed next year.
when I make a mental list of guards I'd like to see on the knicks, Rondo is never on it.
The kid has no Zen, no simpatico with his coach's, is a polarizing personality, and last and least, an aszhole.

For me, this is the same as with Brandon Jennings.

Rondo is a Louisville kid. Louisville is my new adopted home. I'd like it because I could get my Louisville friends to watch the games with me.
Rondo's been in the woods in some bad situations for a few years now. He's supposedly always wanted to play with Melo. Maybe he mellows out a bit and sees the potential of taking center stage at the Garden. He's always loved the big stage - always puts up bigger numbers in nationally televised games.
I'm not saying it'll happen and I don't know who they'd put next to him at SG, but maybe Hornacek and Phil sell him on an offense he can get behind. Hornacek likes the pick and roll. Phil and JH both preach read and react ball. Rondo is a jerk, but highly intelligent and you'd think that read and react thing would appeal to his chess game mind. And he can play chess with Melo on the flights.
I would love this Filipino kid with the Knicks but I doubt the Lakers would let him walk. Specially for Uncle Phil.

Well no you don't just add a couple of legit players and all of the sudden become contenders but if they added Derozan and Whiteside to Russell, Randle Clarkson that would be a hell of a start and don't think it would take long for them to become a team ready to make some noise in the playoffs.
PG--D.Russell
SG--D.Derozan
SF--??
PF--J.Randle
C--H.Whiteside
With J.Clarkson as the 6th man or either him or Derozan could even play some SF that would be a good team.

Didn't Rondo shoot like 38 percent from 3 last year as well??

Yeah, I think that's a possibility for them. That'd be a solid team.
Luke Walton will help them recruit Free Agents, as will LA.
But this is why I'm glad we got Hornacek - coaches are important to the FA recruiting process.

it was 36.5 which was good, his FT shooting is what is killing his efficiency.
No interested in chucking Clarkson. Want players that see the pass and make the pass when appropriate.
