Media is still trying to push negative narratives about the Knicks. Phil simply doesn't talk to these media guys and I doubt he or his staff are talking now either. If something like this happens it would be rare for the media to scoop a Phil move.

Yeah. Rose at this point is a salary dump. I have read a bunch of, what do the Knicks have to offer for Rose. How bad do you ave to play, how many me goals versus team goals do you need to say, how many knee injuries do you need to have, how many games do you have to sit out to protect yourself, not to mention possible legal problems before you are considered him a guy you don't give up assets for?

Agreed. My guess is that the information came from the Chicago side. I think where it may have some substance is that Phil has stated that the Knicks have many needs and few trade chips.
Calderon will not buy you much so swapping him out for a Rose and desirable assets isn't the worst trade that can be made especially if it kills a number of birds with one stone. If Phil gets #13 and the second-rounder out of it, he can concentrate on the draft and then FA. Makes life easier.
SocraticBallin22 wrote:Only way I make this trade is if we unload Melo's long contract and get their 1st round draft pick this year. Then we will have a 1st rounder and tons of cap space after next year in an elite free agent class. That's long term thinking and rebuilding.
That's the prototype for a trade we shouldn't make aka dump our best for nothing.
Please no. This is an awful idea. Rose isn't even good enough when he is healthy to warrant that money. His only value is as an expiring to clear cap space for the future. Doesn't make sense to me.

Wooooooo!
If trading for D.Rose would guarantee KD coming i would do the trade yesterday but why would KD want to come to New York just cause we have an injury riddled player who doesn't get along with all of his teammates and knowing he'd only be here for one year??
CrushAlot wrote:Hoopshype has his salary for next year at $21,323,252. I think if you take that on you give them Jose and get their first round pick. That is a ton of money and puts things on hold for a year. The Knicks don't need to do this. Taking on 15 mil for a year cost a first rounder two years ago with Lin. I think taking on that deal costs the same. I would love to see Gramt/Wroten get the majority of the minutes at the point. This deal would need to really help the Knicks to be worthwhile.
There's absolutely zero way that trade would happen. There's other teams that would give more and take less in return to take a one year chance on a guy like D.Rose.

Well, for his bird rights and a calculated assumption that he will revert to his prior form, in such event, the Knicks might have significant ability to add another free agent next year in addition to that core of Rose, KD, Melo and Porzingis.
I'm not sure I believe he reverts to that form. I'd need a KD to make that move. If it were a better Rose you wouldn't get him for Rolo and Calderon. But, worst case is room for two more high end FAs next year. That's where the tank comes in.
This would be a very ny knicks type move. Extend him for 6 years at the mad and that would complete it. I hope phil hasn't caved to the pressure.
There is no way the Media knows what is going on Phil has been way ahead of them.
looks like the bulls are in reset mode, fire sale is on the horizon

if there is one player that I would want from the Bulls knowing Butler is off limits its Taj Gibson.

Phil has been a step ahead. Media has been making he obvious speculation. They (and we) all swung and missed hard on the coaching selection. I don't know anyone who even mentioned Horny in passing until he was already in final negotiations.
I don't get why anyone is suggesting we give _anything_ of value up for Rose besides maybe a future 2nd rounder. He is garbage and a huge risk at this point in his career. I see people suggesting Rolo or Grant? That's insane! Rose isn't even that good anymore when he is on the floor and he is injured all the time.
No this has to be a pure salary dump or else the Knicks have been swindled once again.
In fact the Bulls should give the Knicks a pick or an asset to take on rose.

Hopefully someone else does then. This would be a salary dump. I don't think the Knicks should look at Rose if it isn't. I guess the only thought might be if the Bulls take back contracts/players the Knicks could go all in at the two guard spot because they would keep their cap space. Also, does this deal mean that KP is the center now? It seems to be a throwback to previous knick regime big moves (bargs, Amare, Billups/Tyson fiasco etc.) during the carmelo era.
Problem is this guy is the poster child for bad attitude and for money.
But, he played well last year the last 3rd of the season. Its my opinion he is ripe for the zen of triangularization and on paper the prototypical candidate if.
Big list of If's regarding this guy's health going forward. The knicks should be having "Internal conversations" about him, and many others of course.
I expect Rose to have a monster year, this his "contract year".
guys like this are why NBA needs NFL type contracts. Period guarantee then at teams option. This way the better players can get value while guys like Rose can also get paid, but if they can't hold up, you don't ruin franchise.
Rose on the knicks? I suppose it depends on lots of things like price paid, his buy in, and what the doctors think. James Dolan would do it, Phil will weigh it better.
i doubt this is phil's idea. just the media making a story. this is exactly the type of player we need to avoid
callmened wrote:i doubt this is phil's idea. just the media making a story. this is exactly the type of player we need to avoid
I agree. Phil has stayed away from guys with character issues and has moved on from guys with horrible injury histories. It doesn't seem like his idea of team building based on his tenure so far.

Well said Crush. No reason to take on that contract without getting something in return. Really, the guy is an accident waiting to happen.
How much does a late 1st for? 3+ million? I'd say Rose is worth a higher to mid 1st round pick to take on.
We can't look at the talent without the risks.

But Rose is on the last year of his contract so he wouldn't be here the following year to add another piece to that core and then not only is Rose gone but so is Rolo who we traded to have Rose for one year. It just doesn't make sense to me to trade Rolo for Rose when Rolo could get us J.Teague or plenty of other guards from teams who would love to have a true center like Rolo.

He may not be the Rose he used to be but he proved last year that he can still ball when he is healthy.
