This has the signs of a major screw-up. Can anyone get on-board with this move? If so, please explain the upside.

We lose our starting center and PG-of-future for a broken down, former uber-athlete and a second rounder next year. Am I missing something?

There's 2 upsides to this deal:

1. The Knicks get the best player in the deal, which means historically they'll win the trade. If Rose comes back to form this will be a coup and if not, New York has even more cap flexibility.

2. Grant likely isn't very good, and moving him with Lopez and Calderon basically off-sets any money that you take on with Rose coming in. With this in mind, the Knicks can actually target one of the many bigs that are out there in free agency instead of having to make an iffy max offer to a guard.

VERY LOGICAL!!! Once you get past the emotional knee jerk reactions this could have a lot of potential upside in terms of structuring the team for the future. Very interesting.

Even if that's true, it's only for one year and all you lose is Lopez.

What makes you so sure? I hope you're right.

The super secret conspiracy theory is CP3, Wade and LeBron are going to fill in that 60 million and assemble the banana boat team.

We cannot afford to put KP at the 5...Yet. He's destined for the 5, but I don't want him breaking down early, he's not even 21 yet and still growing.

Also, by trading ROLO, maybe the Knicks feel that KP is ready to play Center next season in a quicker, more up tempo Hornacek offense. Also, maybe they are high on the Spanish kid stepping in next year and immediately contributing.

Nalod @ 6/22/2016 3:56 PM
Ok, look at the last 3rd of last season and take a deep breath.
Then consider that there would be some due diligence on Rose health and potential going forward.
Not every deal is Dice. If so, we only have him for a one year rental. Ropez was a free agent, a good one, and we have cap space if we let Rose go. Not like Amare where we have 100mil on the line.
Basically Rose and Holliday are better than Grant and Jose. A lot better!!!! Rose is only 4 years older than Grant. I like grant. Sorry to see him go.
He is only 27 and has had a few years to heal. This happens.
Chicago can move forward beyond Pao and Noah. Makes sense for them too, and they have Ropez.
Its starphuch for sure.

A healthy Rose is a very good Triangle player. This is about him finding a fresh place with Zen, Horny along with Melo and KP. This has the potential to be huge.
Can he play healthy this year? If so, do we risk losing him?

Now, if your Durant, this might change the equation. Basically, if all goes well, you have three studs to play with.

DrAlphaeus @ 6/22/2016 3:56 PM
I liked Robin: capable and durable, and was getting the system. I wonder what that means for the future of triangle culture.

Does our Spanish stash pick Willie get slotted in for big minutes at center now? He is coming over this year, right?

Knixkik @ 6/22/2016 3:57 PM
It's a gamble trade, but we get the best player in the trade and increase our flexibility next summer, so it is good for those reasons. I just wish we didn't have to include Grant.

I hope so.. that said a friend did just text me though and said that he saw some tweet about how Noah will follow Rose because they all get along with Melo

What the hell? When rumors started that the Bulls were shopping Rose, first thought was "I wonder what idiots are going to take him in".

Don't like the trade - someone early in the thread wrote that we're getting the best player in the deal? I'd have to say Rolo is the best piece in the deal and has a nice contract for 3 more seasons to boot. Will Rose even play 60 games for us?

The only comfort I'm taking from this is that it gives us a reason to wait for Westbrook next summer.

Well if he gets hurt or he's terrible, New York won't sign him...

Noah or Pau??

Which is better for the team and KP's development if we can only sign one of them?

Cartman718 @ 6/22/2016 4:02 PM
So now if we sign Durant this year and Westbrook next year, Durant has to know that this team will beat any time east or west, sure yeah i am dreaming but what a glorious dream it is.
crzymdups @ 6/22/2016 4:03 PM
Wow. Not sure where I stand on this trade. What's our cap look like for this summer now?

I loved DRose as a player back in the day. Not sure what he has left in the tank at this rate.

It'll be interesting. With Hornacek running things... could be very interesting. Hornacek got his 28yr old PG.

Curious to hear Melo's reaction...

I could see Phil signing Rose if he is just plain average, and cant get Westbrook or some other FA in free agency.

Long way to go before we pass ultimate judgment on the roster we will put on the floor in November.
Pau would be great for KP. Noah a very active triangle type of passer. Neither is a 38 min player but can give us solid 25-28 min and different looks!

Dwight? On a reasonable contract and attitude adjustment.
Lebron? Too soon.
Durant?

Kudo's to knicks for acting fast on this. Its a risk. Such as life.

Pau. Would be a coach on the floor for KP and teach KP some much needed post moves at the same time.

Pau by a mile... Noah gets tech fouls and can't shoot. Pau does a little bit of everything.

I have a soft spot for Noah since his draft day suit. Love his attitude — I just watched a bunch of YouTube videos of him cussing out players on the court, hahaha.

Pau is an interesting option as well, for both KP and Willie's development to have the best Spanish player ever there with Phil Jackson there to hand out Spanish translations of The Alchemist for homework.

We need to light some candles to the basketball gods for Derrick Rose's knees though!

Pau also played with Hernangomez on the Spanish team.

He has a good interior game which KP can learn from.
