They signed Mosgov to a market setting contact... 4 years 64 mill now....
Like why? They just drafted a franchise talent at the 3 spot and already have a young guy starting at the 4. They over paid for a vet to sit on the bench?
I know they have to spend the money, but blow the money?
If this was our franchise we all would be purging at the steps of MSG.
Yet... somehow we have threads talking about "same old knicks" "Phil is an idiot" "build organiclly"
You silly gooses
You can argue that the Lakers will make the playoffs... but if you do then motherfucker so will the Knicks.
enyspree-agree with you--this is like trading for Roy Hibbert. Are the lakers going to win with Luol Deng and Tim Mosgov? They potentially have good young players. Sign two players to get up to the salary threshold and then dump them at the deadline and wait for FA next year with two more great rookies.

FAX!!
Deng would have been nice on a 2 year contract here, sure as hell not at that price. But damn, Noah's 72 mil deal is looking reasonable as hell when compared to guys like Mozgov, Turner, Deng getting comparable deals.

Agreed Briggs. It is a bit funny seeing big names spur the Lakers. Welcome to the club, well, I do think and oddly so, the Rose and then Noah signing, might have changed our fortune (for better or for worse though - time will tell.)

I think Randle is a bust and Clarkson has the potential to be a legit starter. The jury is still out on Russell. Deng is good vet for ingram to learn from as his frame fills out. I like Ingram's potential, but it would be kind of cruel to send him out to the wolves in year one.

Nah.... top 2 picks in the draft are supposed to play right away. KP was thrown to the wolves and look at him now.
Anyway...
big time stars dont wanna play for the knicks or lakers anymore. thats whats happening. so they have to settle and overpay

But for Mozgov and Deng? 3 years 30 million would have been over paying
well thats just salary cap inflation. they have to spend this money on someone. no one wants to go there so they overpay to beg them to come

Not only do I agree but I think at $18mm Noah gave us a home town discount. If it was a pure money grab someone would have offered him 4/$98. Is there any doubt?
Still a risky signing but based on our needs, his intangibles, how it changes the perception of the team and bottom line gives us another impact player for a playoff run. This team is still about KP, but Willy is regarded as one of the best young prospects in Europe. His #s there were fantastic. He's a blue collar guy. He's got chemistry w/ KP. Even as Noah declines I really like the idea of these two young players being shown Noah's style of play.
I am great with this move (the Knicks).
I can understand the Deng signing. They owe next year's pick right? So why tank. Deng is a good stability player. He will really help a young roster. Mosgov is a total headscratcher, especially right out of the gate, but maybe they know something I dont.

KP was surprise, but he didn't have access to state of the art strength trainers and nutritionists. He was able to make up for lost time last summer. Ingram is still mad skinny and this after playing for Duke.

KP had an excuse for being light. He was able to work out as much with his European squad. You saw how excited he was to have keys to the gym when he came here. Ingram played for Duke, which imagine uses nothing but state of the art methods for weight training and nutrition and he's still mad skinny. That tells me he's gonna need a little more time to bang with nba players. Deng allows Ingram to develop with a little less pressure. It also allows him to learn from a legitimate pro.
I am at the extreme minority here but I like Mozzy a lot. I think it was a good sign by the Lakers. People got sticker shock because he was the first one to sign these huge contracts but now that a lot of people has signed....his contract does not look that much of a stretch. The league always overpays for centers. That is the nature of the league. Dwight got paid 25M per year. Mozzy at 16M per year. Seems like a good scale.

J.Randle isn't a bust. He's pretty damn good and think he's goona have a really good year next year and Russell really came on in the last month or so last year. The Lakers have some really good young talent but have a lot of work to do still. Deng is a good two way player so he will help but for me it's still the Mozgov deal that i don't understand and not because i don't think he can play cause i know he can play but because i don't see how he fits what L.Walton wants to do.

It's not very often that big time stars leave their previous teams so it's kinda hard to sign a big time star when they always end up staying with their team that they're already on and when you have every other team in the league also trying to get that player. Guys like Rose and Noah might not be big time stars anymore but they're still really good players and they wanna play with the Knicks and if this team can stay somewhat healthy next year and make the playoffs and even make some noise in the playoffs then there will be big time stars giving us a much stronger look next off season like Westbrook.
